The Los Santos Drug Wars Update

 

For the usual big December DLCs we got over the years, this one is quite lackluster and disappointing, to be honest.

 

First off, it doesn't really feel like this "big, two part story" as R* said it would be. Not that it's entirely bad, but most of the missions we've got so far are too similar in structure to older ones, even from SP!

Secondly, the QoL improvements. There were some nice improvements, especially the ability to hide phone contacts. But I can't deny I was expecting more in the same level as the Criminal Enterprises update.

And then, there's the dripfeed. As much as I liked the previous DLC, I thought that its dripfeed was bad. But I wasn't expecting it would get much worse with this one! One of the worst offenders for me so far is the "FOMO" sh-it going on with the cars.

 

Speaking of which, the car selection, the main focus of my usual "reviews". It's still have a good variety like in previous updates, however, some of the models added are simply variations of already existing vehicles with little to no differences. I wouldn't mind that if they were civilian versions of emergency, gang or racing cars, but... Ohh well.

 

Here's some quick thoughts about them:

 

Annis 300R

Based on the 2023 Nissan Z [RZ34].

I was expecting a lore friendly Nissan Z to be added eventually to the game.

It looks nice, but not as good as its real life counterpart.

My main "issue" with it is the headlights. They look a bit... Off.

I wish they've used Fiat 124 Spider headlights for it. They'd fit like a glove!

It features Imani Tech.

BF Surfer Custom

Based on the Volkswagen Kombi [Type 2].

Finally! A BF Surfer with customization!

This one was initially cut from the game with the Los Santos Summer Special update.

As much as I like it, it could be handled better. Firstly, they should've used the Beater suspension instead of the lowered one from the "stock" version. I was never a fan of this. Which is why I edited the suspension data for this picture.

Also, they should've give it an unique, more era-appropriated interior instead of reusing the copy pasted SUV interior from 2013.

If it were to be just a Surfer with customization support, I think it would be better to just add the stuff to the OG model and leave the vehicle slot for something else.

Still, one of my favorites from this update!

Classique Broadway

Based on the 1947 Oldsmobile 66 Club Sedan.

WHAT!?! R* ACKNOWLEGING THE EXISTENCE OF CLASSIQUE AFTER ALMOST 10 YEARS!?!

I bet that @Classique went nuts with this. Hopefully they'll "fix" both Stallions being referred as Declasse models despite their Classique badges.

Nice to see more vintage cars being added to the game!
Many customization options, including taxi related stuff.
One of my favorites from this update.

Just a little nitpick: I wish they called it something else and bring back the "real" Broadway, based on the Cadillac Series 62.

Declasse Tahoma Coupe

Based on the 1979 Chevrolet Monte Carlo.

Ahh, the first vehicle teased by R* from this update.

I really liked how it turned out!

However, I feel like it would be better as a Benny's vehicle with more customization options, even though I'm not a fan of lowriders.

Declasse Tulip M-100

Based on the 1980 Chevrolet Malibu.

Nice! I wasn't expecting to see another late 70s, early 80s Chevy sedan in the same update.
Though I wish it was a 4-door model. Not that its 2-door configuration is bad, by any stretch of imagination!
Now what is really bad is the classic R* habbit of making models with forced customization options, suspension and whatnot.

There's already an actual stock version of the Tulip made by the modding community that looks much better!
Still, one of my favorites from this update.

Karin Boor

Based on the 1982 Subaru BRAT.

YES!! YES!!
I wasn't expecting to see a lore friendly Subaru BRAT ta all!
It has many customization options and nice liveries, though I wish it had a few more standard bumper options.

The only thing it's really missing is the rear jump seats, of which @Thundersmacker added to his GTA IV port of the model.

Just a little nitpick: I wish they called it something else. I know that Boor is related to brat and all, but there's better synonyms out there, like... ahem... Rascal.

Karin Hotring Everon

Based on the 2022 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro NASCAR.

Another Hotring model? Nice!
Hopefully they'll continue adding more of these from different eras along with more Open Wheel models.
Kinda weird they chose the name "Everon" despite the fact it's based on a Tundra and not a Hilux. Nothing big, though.

Maibatsu Manchez Scout C

Based on the Harley-Davidson MT350 and Kawasaki KLR 250.

So, what we have here?
As much as I like the Manchez Scout, I really don't see the point to have another one, virtually the same as the one from Cayo Perico with just some extra customization options and liveries.
Like the Surfer Custom, I think it would be better to just add the stuff to the OG model and leave the vehicle slot for something else, or at least a more unique looking Manchez.

MTL Brickade 6x6

Spoiler

Based on the MAN TGS 26.480 6x6 Expedition Truck.

Same with the Manchez Scout C.

Though in this case, being a mission-only vehicle, I do understand why they decided to add it as a separate model.

Ocelot Virtue

Based on the 2021 Lotus Evija.

Another car I was expecting to see added to the game in an update eventually.

I'm not into modern vehicles, but this one looks as nice as its real life counterpart.

And apparently as fast as it too!
It has many customization options, including Imani Tech stuff.

Överflöd Entity MT

Based on the 2021 Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut.

Yet another car I was expecting to see added to the game in an update eventually.

It doesn't look bad, but I feel that there's something off about its design, for some reason.

Also, I wish they've used a different name too. Doesn't make much sense to it be called Entity, in my opinion.

It has many customization options, some of which can turn it into a Jesko, like in this picture.

Even with HSW upgrades available, they had the brilliant idea to copy paste the performance data from the Entity XXR to it.

In other words, not only it's really bad to drive, it also doesn't go as fast as it should. What a shame!

Toundra Panthere

Based on the 2017 Alpine A110.

YES!!! YES!!!

Now that was a surprise!
Not only they FINALLY added a new french car not based on a Bugatti in a while (counting with the Vetir truck), it's also branded as Toundra!
You guys have no idea HOW MUCH I wanted a new french car manufacturer to be added to the game in YEARS!

The Panthere looks as great as its real life counterpart! It features many customization options and liveries.

One of my favorites from this update.

Weeny Issi Rally

Based on the 2012 MINI John Cooper Works Countryman.

Nice to see a lore friendly Countryman added to the game!

Though it's kinda weird how it's named "Issi Rally" despite the fact that it isn't directly based on the rally car.

Sure, you can turn it into the JCW Countryman with customization options like in this picture, but still.

Also, it's kinda funny how it have Rally in its name and yet, unfortunately, performs quite bad off-road, even with HSW upgrades available!

What a shame!
Still, one of my favorites from this update!

Western Powersurge

Based on the 2019 Harley-Davidson Livewire.

The first electric motorcycle of the game. And quite fast, might I add!
Although I'm not into bikes as much as cars, this one looks nice.

It has many customization options.

Willard Eudora

Based on the 1960 Buick Electra 225.

WHAT!?! NOT ONLY THEY FINALLY ACKNOWLEGED THE EXISTENCE OF CLASSIQUE, BUT THEY ALSO REMINDED OF WILLARD AFTER A WHILE IN THE SAME UPDATE!?!

This one was quite a surprise!

It's always great to see more vehicles from the 60s or under added to the game.

It has many customization options, including taxi related stuff, like the Broadway.

Quite slow, but it's expected for a vehicle of this size.

One of my favorites from this update!

Zirconium Journey II

Based on the 1977 Triple E Motorhome.

FINALLY! A CLEAN VERSION OF THE JOURNEY!

To be honest, though, it could have been handled better.

Not only it still retains the worn interior (but without the posters and trash), you can still spot the rust on the wheels, despite being chromed now.

Also, it's really lacking more customizations options.

Kinda feels like a waste of space for a different vehicle.

What a shame!

 

There was also another mission-only variant of the Cargo Plane added to the game.

 

That's all!

 

Despite all the flaws from this update, I still think it has some noteworthy vehicular additions!

 

First of all, it still retains most of the good variety from previous updates, but not as grand.

Also, they FINALLY gave some love to underrused brands like Zirconium, Willard and, of course, Classique!

Hopefully they'll keep up doing that for future DLCs.

Last, but certainly not least, we have a new french car manufacturer!

As much as I want to ditch Bordeaux for good, I'm not going to rebrand all my Bordeaux sketches for now, as Toundra is an obvious parody of Alpine. I'll do that when R* decides to use the brand for other french cars in future updates (hopefully). The only one so far that'll be rebranded to Toundra is the Raidillon (Alpine A310).

 

Speaking of sketches, I'll do a poll to decide which ones I'm going to do for the next batch soon.

You may notice some different (and familiar) stuff with this next batch. I hope you'll like it!

I'll give you a hint: 24 sketches will be featured, of which 6 will be new, 12 will be remakes of old ones and 6 will be... some extra models.

I chose all of the 1960s-1980s vehicles. Especially cars like the Dundreary Remington, Bordeaux Marseille, Classique Eaves, etc. Nice selection of vehicles to be remastered!

 

By the way, SilentSoul, I really, REALLY hope one of your 24 sketches is based on a 1967 Pontiac GTO. Legendary Pontiac and my all time favorite!

Well I chose those vehicles from 2000's, 1990's and one of 1980's
I want to see in a first place a Schyster Excess, in second place a Classique Eaves, in the third a Declasse SXR, in fourth a Canis Centurion, in the fifth, sixth place a Jobuilt Linerunner and Bravado Recursion, and last place a Classique Quixote. *would be named*

Oh yeah, and chose other american vehicles, because I couldn't choose less than 12 cars.

I was planning to start the sketches in mid-February, but I'll have to postpone to early to mid March.

Not only I've been busy lately with online courses, yesterday I've accidentally deleted a folder with badges and logos I've made for all 52 sketches I've done in recent years!

As I couldn't recover the files, I'll have to do them all again!

No big deal, but it's still quite annoying considering I was almost done...

Gladly I made a backup with some of them and have the fonts names noted down, or else I'd screwed up for good!

Since I already know what fonts to use, I won't take too long to make the badges again and then, finally start making sketches. Well, hopefully.

For this batch onwards, I'll do GTA IV vehicles and some variants of GTA V ones in between new and old sketches.

Not only that, with a new PC, I'm FINALLY able to do fully digital sketches again!

 

These GTA IV/V sketches will serve two purposes: get my Illustrator mojo back after more than 2 years without using it and show some love to these vehicles. Who knows, maybe they might catch R*'s attention and bring them back to GTAO and/or GTA VI.
