To be honest, Rockstar is very open and out front with controversial character traits and motifs in the game. If Haines was gay, I am quite sure Rockstar would have put it in the game definitively somewhere. I mean, they are open about torture, sexual themes, hinting at even rape, other morbid ideas, and wanton violence. These days, gay is socially accepted, so I doubt they would have been clandestine about Steve's sexuality if he was gay or closeted. There would have been a lot more pointing to it than just not bragging about women. No, Trevor and Lester are though. Trevor is not gay or even closeted or bisexual, for that matter. I think that Trevor is so insanely and disturbingly experimental that he sees any "warm body" next to him as something to rub his junk on. His bizarrely disturbing scenes waking up next to Loyd, for instance, don't depict him being attracted to the man, in the sense that you and I would be attracted to women or a gay man would be attracted to another man. I think it was just Rockstar trying to portray a profound loneliness as well as a completely careless and ambiguous seeking out of affection, which overlapped with sexual desire. If Trevor was truly gay, I doubt he would have fallen for Patricia Medrazo so heavily. As for Lester, there is absolutely no indication of ANY sexuality whatsoever.
