GameChristopher
Has anyone played these old Kings Quest games? I used to love them when I was a kid, but it feels like most people have forgotten about them these days. I've been talking to my friends, and most of them didn't have computers around that time, so they don't know much about it either. I decided to play through it with one of my buddies if anyone is interested (Parts 3 & 4 will be up in the coming weeks): Anyway, has anyone else played these games? Memories? Likes or dislikes? I want to know!
Wingate167
I've played 4-6 growing up and played the remakes for 1-3. My parents didn't allow consoles growing up so we had computer games instead. Sierra was good with adventure games, but they also had some issues with unwinnable scenarios and narrators being sarcastic to you when you got killed. Lucasarts tended to make fun of that a lot. King's Quest 6 was pretty much the last good King's Quest game in Sierra fans' minds. It was also when Sierra started to use actors instead of the programming staff for voice acting. Funny, I could never finish it back in 1994 because I couldn't do the last thing in time and I finished the game last year. King's Quest 6 was something you couldn't do in the era of Halo, Grand Theft Auto, Uncharted, etc... I couldn't really get into the quasi reboot of King's Quest that came out a few years ago. Sierra also had Police Quest, Space Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, Laura Bow, Shivers, Gabriel Knight, etc... I'm still waiting for a canon Space Quest 7. I am one of the very few that very much enjoyed Kings Quest 8: Mask of Eternity. It had its own issues, but at the time it opened my mind as to what PC games could become. I couldn't get into the reboot either. Something about it just felt like it was pandering, instead of trying to tell a new story. What was your favorite Space Quest game, out of curiosity? Roger Wilco was one of the first "fun videogame heroes" that I can remember.

Roger Wilco was one of the first "fun videogame heroes" that I can remember. I thought 8 was interesting in that you didn't play as a member of the Royal Family. It was the time when games starting going 3D in the late 1990's. I never thought of the reboot as pandering before, but maybe I'm just used to old-school adventure games as I couldn't get into the game play. I did like the scenes with Graham and his granddaughter. I watched some of the scenes they had and there were some nice little nods to the series. With Space Quest, I'd have to say 5 as it did some great spoofing of sci-fi films. Here's what I would rank them. 1. Space Quest 5 2. Space Quest 4 3. Space Quest 6 4. Space Quest 3 5. Space Quest 2 6. Space Quest 1 (Mostly because I can't stand to play parser interface games now) Space Quest 4 gave me nightmares because of the shrieking cyborg zombie, the Supercomputer and the background of war-torn Xenon. It was a dark game in terms of tone and story. But it also had Gary Owens who is one of the most sarcastic narrators for a game, he did come back for Space Quest 6. I'm aware the Two Guys got back and are doing SpaceVenture, but I'd like to see them to do a proper finale to the Space Quest series.

I definitely agree that Space Quest 5 was the best, but I've never minded text parser games and I still remember the first time I played Space Quest 1 with nostalgia-rimmed glory. I didn't know about SpaceVenture, I'll have to check that out. Wingate167
Wingate167
With SpaceVenture, the Two Guys got back together and did a Kickstarter campaign to do a spiritual sequel to Space Quest called SpaceVenture back in 2012. They managed to get their goal, but it's been delayed for various reasons
GameChristopher
Sounds like the story of every Kickstarter game... Anyway, here's Part 3 if anyone is wanting to see the adventure continue: Wingate167
