Nightshark Armor Question

How is the armor on the Nightshark?

I've got two characters and one has the Armored Kuruma. Whenever I have to do the railguns suplly mission at the Merryweather HQ on Elysian Island I take the Kuruma, drive in, gun down everyone (except the first poor bastard, which I run over. Bullets cost money, you know) and then drive to the stairs to saunter up and grab the railgun. Get a few scratches from the rusty bannister on the stairs, but that's about it.

I'm looking for something like that for my other character and I'm thinking the Nightshark might mix up my collection nicely. Does it perform on par with the Kuruma. I don't care much for speed and handling, but it's the safety part of it that I'm curious about.

To be exact, does it:

- Protect the driver completely?

- Allow me to return fire with personal weapons from behind the steering wheel?

Thanks in advance.

It can take 5 rpg hits without anyone in it, 9 rpg hits occupied. You can only use personal weapons if you choose NOT to have the armored plating on the windows. In my experience, the armored plating on the windows doesn't really help at all, NPCs and players will consistently shoot you through them.

Still a great purchase though.

Thanks.

Protection from explosions only really matters when I part near a fuel tank, other than that I tend to avoid people who carry things that go boom. It's the NPC small arms fire that I'd use it against.

So if I read correctly, the Kuruma outclasses it as an improvised APC.

For the Merryweather docks railgun mission, I use a buzzard and blow everyone up by flying it around the ocean side... then fly it in the hangar and land it at the base of the stairs...

The Kuruma has much better bullet proof windows for doing missions and dealing with cops/npc's.... The Nightshark's windows (no plates offer a small amount of protection from NPC's, no protection in free roam). The window plates are USELESS decorations... they remove any window tints (so you can be seen in the openings), restrict weapon use and the NPC's will kill you in a heart beat shooting you through the slots in the plates (as will free roam snipers). See the video (starting at about 45 minutes) where I tried "Death From Above" in a Nightshark with window plates... FAIL!!! But easily done in a Kuruma.

Just an FYI...

The Nightshark will blow up when hit with:

5 RPG's/Stickybombs while empty

9 RPG's/Stickybombs while someone is in it

27 homing missiles while someone is in it

The windows are not bullet proof in free roam... one shot kills regardless of window plates or not

But, in missions the windows (no plates) are semi bullet resistant, let you select "limo tint" and provide BETTER protection than the plates.... guess that is one for Rockstar Logic???

So why is it a good purchase?

Kuruma is far better for missions/heists, and the Insurgent is better/as good as the Nightshark regarding protection against explosives, while you're very vulnerable for bullets from the sides in the Nightshark.

@Smartergaming

I'm doing this on my phone so I think I may have unliked your post. Not my intention.

Anyway.

I used to buzzard that mission too, but after about 20 times you kinda start looking for something quicker. ;o)

The armour plating issue will be fixed for the Bravado Half-Track, HVY Insurgent Pick-Up Custom and HVY Nightshark in the next content update, apparently.

Someone said the Technical Custom works as intended, but I disagree. I can understand the Hauler Custom and Weaponized Tampa as they're more open gaps.

So does the armor plating for the doors and Hood do anything or is it just cosmetic?

Take the plates off. They don't do anything.

Thanks for the info... but how the hell does a vehicles armor value rise when it's occupied? Why does that make sense to anyone at R*?

Kind of stupid for sure.

Even worse - my testing for "explosive resistance" of aircraft - in particular helicopters - has brought out some interesting results. For example, if I sit in a Buzzard Attack Helicopter and get someone else to shoot at the aircraft with explosive rounds (Heavy Sniper Rifle Mk.2), it will EITHER blow up in 1 shot, or 3.

If the first time, it takes 3 shots, the next time it'll take 1 (and vice versa), on a loop. Total nonsense.

Is it possible that this is due to the CEO buzzard always being invincible when you first spawn it in? Just wondering.

Well those CEO vehicles seem different again. CEO Menu Buzzard and Volatus seem buffed, the SuperVolito seemed standard. Otherwise - it didn't matter whether (the Buzzard) was one that spawned naturally, one called from Pegasus or another player's vehicle.

Seems very wishy-washy. Things being different depending on randomness (pretty much) isn't a good concept.

The problem with the Nightshark is the armor window plates provide just about ZERO bullet protection and keep you from using any personal weapons or throwables! You are limited to the spit wad shooters on the front that have a hard time killing a npc pedestrian much less armed guards with body armor in missions.... and the description is wrong on the nightshark the windows are not sniper proof and it has FOUR machine guns not two... that makes their weakness even worse!!!

How do I get armoured windows on the nighshark?

Bring it into your Mobile Operations Centre or your Avenger.
