Overtime Shootout - Your Thoughts and Discussion Thread

Overtime Rumble was largely really good for not stringing each round out for too long (even if players wanted to get clever, and stay in the air for as long as possible in order to land last), and even while you were waiting for others to land, it was still worth paying attention and preparing in case you needed to start steering your car again. Big step up from things like Deadline, where one slip up, and ...good luck spectating for the next 20 minutes if you don't want to miss out on the payout at the end. :bored:

So of course R* adds a redo of Overtime Rumble where you could wind up waiting 20 minutes between each jump, and where there's nothing to do other than spectate in the down-time. And that's without people realising that even if you lose, double money for a long match is still pretty good, so there's not much reason for players not to go AFK for the duration.

I've not even played it yet - watched a bunch of people playing it earlier on Twitch, and it's like R* didn't understand why Overtime Rumble worked. Or, more charitably (and in fairness, more likely), R* came up with both at the same time - I hope that they pick up on the difference in reception, and next update comes with stuff that leans more towards the former in terms of structure and how to keep everyone involved.

Simple best of both worlds: just have everyone jump at once, like Overtime Rumble. Basically Overtime Rumble, but non-contact, and with maps designed with the emphasis on picking the right combination of points to win, over knocking people off a decent-scoring platform.

We bash on every other Adversary Mode because it proves R* is getting desperate. Not to mention the low payouts many Adversary Modes give out once the 2x events are over.

Wish that R* should re-introduce Contact Missions and Survival, and even new Heists really.

Following the success and enjoyment from Overtime Rumble, I wanted to like this mode, but I just can't. Thirty seconds of actual gameplay for 5 or more minutes of spectating in the larger lobbies. How did R* think this would be any fun?

You know the dripfeed has gone way too far when R* releases a 'new' AM that's nearly the exact same as the one that was released a few weeks ago. To an extent, the same can be said for Power Mad (and that mode is complete crap too,) but at least they waited a while before cloning Juggernaut.

Might give it a bash tonight. Half way through Power Mad i quit mainly because I kept getting spawn trapped every time.

the amount of people that are not even playing the game(wasting time) and costing the match is just downright disgusting

Time limit should have been the original mode... then Just give a contact/non-contact Option and boom...

But no, we defo needed 2 modes to seperate playbase of this mode even more. GG WP EZ R*

100k for being afk I know what I'll be doing for the next week while I'm watching Youtube. I would never be fully afk though I'd still do the 1 minute of playing.

GTA is turning in to an afk game now. While doing research for the past 2 weeks I was online for like 50 hours 90% of the time I was afk at my security camera. I miss the days where you actually had to play the game to unlock stuff and earn money. With everyone doing biker/bunker stuff it's hard to get into jobs with other people and the only thing I can really do is bunker stuff that basically requires me to be afk for hours to get the stuff ready to do 1 mission. It's getting really boring now and since finishing all the research I only play for around half an hour a day to do my daily objectives.

Then you'll be one of those sh*theads that ruins the game for others, so why complaining about it?

Have fun watching youtube..

I come here for a f*cking shootout. A proper shootout with some proper men. Like Colonel Custer and Geronimo, you ever heard of them? No. Cause you're too busy in your pinny baking f*cking fairy cakes, weren't ya?

A SHOOTOUT, RIGHT, IS A f*ckING SHOOTOUT! Like a western. WANKERS!! f*cking embarrassing, waste of my time. f*ckING waste of my time! - Ronald Kray

These two quotes from the film Legend sum up my thoughts of this new mode exactly.

Posted this in Bitch & Moan, but it makes much more sense to be in this thread.

The new adversary mode is nice on paper but the turn-by-turn based style of gameplay is far too much to sit through. I played this in party chat with friends old and new and while yes, we did have fun and many honest laughs, every single one of us took issue with the long and drawn out wait just to progress in that game mode.

Some suggested it'd be better if we went at the same time or if there was a demo-derby-style fight to stay on the platform once there (like the last adversary mode). But as it's set up today is feels more tedious than it is. It's different for the sake of being different.

We can say we tried it though for whatever that's worth; played it for about 45mins (guesstimate) due to the Cash and RP bonus. We got paid $164,000 - $90,000 (depending on your score) for participating which was a decent consolation. Yet we still unanimously agreed that we'll never do this again.

We stuck around to do other jobs/matches together afterwards, but just...not that.

One round, which I never had a chance at jumping in, with the AFK'ers and the waiting around, is more than enough for me I think.

A civilized adversary mode for refined ladies and proper gentlemen. Etiquette and good clean sportsmanship are key to success. I prefer to enjoy it with a spot of tea and a good book for those long waits between turns.

Overtime Rumble was great. This is not. I waited 10 minutes for my turn and my team lost before I got a turn. Not very well thought out. If they're going to make you go one at a time they should at least scramble the lineups each round. If you're last you might not even get a turn the entire match.

Its the same if someone on the other team leaves! There is a chance that the game skip you when its your turn even if you are not the last one to do the jump.

Non Funkable Token

Played a full lobby match, 4 rounds. People started to go away at the 2nd round. My team lost the 4 rounds, so I got 40k for about 30 minutes of my time. And that's double money right now. Lame. The good adversary modes give you good money for your time no matter winning or losing while they have double money.

And don't even get me started with the waiting times........

Worse than Rhino Hunt.

The difference between Overtime RUMBLE and Overtime SHOOTOUT is huge.

Overtime Rumble was one of the best adversary modes I've played in a long time. It was the unpredictability of it all - you could throw yourself at the target first and try and secure some points, or play more tactically and try and knock other people off. It was fun, spontaneous, cooperative and tactical all in one go. At least Rockstar got this one right.

Overtime Shootout is boring even with friends.

Take out the spontaneity and unpredictability, and this is what you get. I played it last night with friends, and we left after round three. It's very dull in comparison to Overtime Rumble, which entertained us for several days.

Huge disappointment, definitely not worth it. It's not as fun as Overtime Rumble, not even close. Moreover, the 2x cash bonus sure allows you to earn a good amount of money, but it takes too much time.

Good just for low level players that needs money and haven't played OR before.

Lame. Original is much better, and that's not saying much. There's more strategy involved with Rumble over this. Plus, people are more likely to leave in the new mode since you have to sit, and wait for your turn, and then the round to complete.

I just played a couple rounds and well...

If I join a particular game mode I would actually like to play instead of spectating.

I just witnessed something quite absurd. Game went to last round, all one guy in my team needed to do was get 2 points, but of course he was inactive. Moments later in voting screen he was the first to vote. If he was there, why didn't he take his last turn to win and get 115k instead of 60k? lol

Overtime rumble was a really fun mode. One of the few times I actually played an adversary mode over and over. The rest I hardly even try. I tried this overtime shootout... and well...

What the actual f*ck? It is painstakingly boring. I missed my turn several times because I was so bored that I started dicking about on my computer and didn't realize it was my turn until it was too late. Not to mention half my team was AFK so we were hardly scoring. Even if my team didn't suck and I didn't miss my turns, it wouldn't have matter... It was so boring. All the intensity and strategy of overtime rumble is completely out the window. It's just lame

There should have really been some incentive for the non-players IMO.

Say one player is having their go - the other players could have had the option to launch fireworks or something from the side lines to try and distract them. Maybe even knock them off course or block their view with smoke.

Another game mode that'll be played whilst the RP and cash is there... and then abandoned with all of the other ones.

Enjoyed overtime rumble. This is excruciating with AFKers though. Lucky I've only experienced the AFCKers twice out of ten play throughs. If everyone sticks around and actually plays, pretty fun and good money. Actually made close to a million if my head math is correct.
