GTA IV FATAL ERROR: DFA did not initialize properly. Please make sure you are using LaunchGTAIV.exe to launch the game.

I have been tweaking my computer settings following online guides and using patches to install GTA IV on my Windows 10 computer. I got the game to run, but when I try and run it the second time after I close the game, I get the below error:

GTA IV FATAL ERROR: DFA did not initialize properly. Please make sure you are using LaunchGTAIV.exe to launch the game.

I bought the game from Amazon digital game downloads a few years ago. LaunchGTAIV.exe was never included in the download.

Can anyone please help me?

Maybe you deleted the launchgtaiv.exe file? Or maybe your antivirus thought it was a threat and quarantined it? Try re-downloading the game of none of those work.
