How will we transition from GTA V Online to GTA VI Online?

It's pretty certain when/if GTA VI Online comes out, we will be forced to start out from scratch [to fund shark cards of course]. How do you think it will happen in game?

This is how I see it going down:

You're doing a major heist, planned out by Agent 14 and Lester. You successfully complete the heist, then in the final scene, the heist turns out to be a set up.

You are finally caught. You get arrested along with your heist team. You get charged for all the crimes you committed and get sentenced to life in prison. All your assets are seized. Apartments, houses, warehouses, clubhouse, bunkers, vehicles, all gone.

In transit to the prison, the convoy is hijacked by a team put together by Agent 14 and Lester. You and your heist team are freed.

You are given a new identity and are sent to the new city to get back at it.

Welcome to GTA VI Online.

Grand Theft Auto V or GTA Online - pick one.

I'd be most interested to see if they decide to bring RDR2 to PC at all, and if they'll even bring GTA VI to PC, let alone the online counterpart. They'll probably take the route of "shark cards are king" and "forget dedicated servers".

Honestly I hope we get a fresh start. GTA VI's multiplayer would be a lot less entertaining if you start with a +100 rank and a couple of million in the bank.

I also hope we have to start from zero, it will be fun starting again and having a bit of challenge while playing a whole new game.

I don't think that V and VI Online would be connected.

But it would be cool if we would be able to transfer our characters and bank accounts from V Online to VI Online. Well, atleast characters.

I posted something like this a while back in another thread, but here's kinda how I'd like to see it go down.

You want to transfer your character, you have a choice: The easy way or the hard way. The easy way, you fake your death. Agent 14 denies your existence. Your office secretary shreds all your files. Your cars all get sold off to Simeon. LJT torches your biker businesses, and you start over with a couple grand to your name.

The hard way is, you call Lamar and tell him you need his help skipping town. Unfortunately Lamar is a motormouth and let slip you were taking off. So on your way to LSIA every asshole in Los Santos that you've pissed off comes after you. Vagos, Little Seoul gangsters, the Lost, Merryweather, Madrazo, the Ballas and of course the LSPD. You have to fight your way to the airport and barely make it out of town alive. If you're successful you keep some more cash (maybe up to half a million) and whatever PV you drove to the airport (if the car makes it) You still have to start over in a new city, but you're not at rock bottom at least.

Grimy waifu

The next GTA: Online will be totally new, character included in my opinion

I'm pretty sure the next GTA will be set in Vice City (then again, we have no evidence. I'm just speculating) so I don't really see how my GTA 5 character would end up there

Gets eaten by a shark, cuts open its belly and starts a new life? Meh :/

It's probably going to be a typical MMO's start. You're either a jackass that nobody cares about but ends up becoming more powerful than Alduin, El Chapo and Donkey Kong put together OR you're a powerful criminal that ends up becoming a beggar due to some kind of accident. Mark my words

f*ck off with Agent 14, this guy and his annoying spam get rid of all these stupid characters I much rather have a mission where we get to end this punk. For Lester maybe make an exception...

GTA Online has proven to be such a success I don't think Rockstar themselves have even thought about how to extend it beyond the current generation of consoles hardware. They have tons of ideas sure, but the PS4 and Xbox One hardware can only support so much.

I can't even think of GTA Online having a successor or something, it'll simply continue as is, getting continually updated with software updates and eventually down the road, major hardware upgrades but still retaining the GTA Online name. There is no GTAV Online or GTAVI Online, it's simply GTA Online. It's its own thing.

I'm very concerned and troubled as to what this means for Grand Theft Auto VI as a standalone game though.

I wouldn't mind the new grind if the new grind was entertaining and exploit less, so later down the line it doesnt ruin the game.

I would also like to see a more in depth character creation system, so we can transfer our current character to there and change it up with new features and detail, like they did with transfers from old gen to current.

It will be a reset, no level, money or property transfer. Maybe character appearance transfer .

The thing about GTA V and Online being separate titles - they may have tried to make online feel more like a game in itself, but how true is that, really?

Let's start with what I think is a reasonable assumption that VI will have a new map (and possibly new game engine). For continuity yes it's reasonable to expect your GTAO character will be transferable to play in VIs map. However, it then follows that you would not be able to play Online in VIs map with a copy of V. So I'm not sure calling them GTA V Online and GTA VI Online would be incorrect. It would provide a meaningful distinction of what map you are playing on. They might call it GTAO 2 instead but that would just be pedantic IMHO.

Back to the question in hand, I think it will just be your character gets off a plane again in a new city. There's a merit to keeping it open ended as the player base may move across at different times and circumstances with respect to their GTA career.

I sincerely doubt R* would ever allow any sort of character transfer to whatever the next iteration of GTA is.

The "Because, Sharkcards" line has been played to death but....

Because, Sharkcards.

Nobody really knows, but if i got to make a guess gtao will just get an other revamp to were people need to transfer to.

Honestly i hope i am dead wrong, but yea, that would be my prediction.

If there is going to be a new Online game that continues in any way whatsoever from this one, it better not reset our progress and assets. Unless there IS no grind in the new game. Spending all this time making money to "future proof" your account here only to have it become 100% meaningless in a game that's effectively GTA:O part two would be a major dick move.

If the game is a continuation, let people just create new characters like they can now. Done. As for anyone wanting to start over and not liking the idea of not EVERYONE starting over, despite the fact that some people put literally hundreds or thousands of hours into their characters, how about they finally change the way public sessions are set up? They can allow sessions where PvP is not the main focus.

I don't know if there's a studio out there who has ever done something like this. Make a NEW online game instead of an expansion to an existing one but making the new game a continuation of the first one and then not allowing people to transfer their existing characters with all their progress. Whatever fun people may have had on the first game, it's a giant "f**k you" to the people who put in all that time and want to enjoy the next game as well but can't afford to play as much. Pretty much every MMO I've ever played or heard of either just got expansions, got updates or got shut down. No direct sequels that also reset everything.

Hell, with GTA:O being a few years old already, there's going to be a number of people who started out having all the time in the world (perhaps only having to deal with school) and then suddenly finding they can't play that much anymore because of new real life responsibilities such as jobs or families. Resetting is not cool.

EDIT: So really, I'm not expecting a new online game to follow up on the current game. Most likely I think is that this game is shut down at some point in the future and a different story that takes place somewhere else will be used for a new online game. Expansion (bigger map) seems unlikely, too. But I would welcome that.

I can see them doing away with story mode and gta 6 being an online only thing with more of a story incorporated into it, but who knows.

it's going to be a fresh start based on the location of GTA VI.

new map, new character, new goals.

you guys are too hung up on titles.

Everything new with a new character, I don't really think R* would push themselves to follow up on our current characters story.

Maybe they can allow us to transfer money funds and stats since those sit in the Social Club cloud, and maybe even allow us to use our character's likeness when creating the new one, but I don't imagine anything further than that.

Starting out in a new state released or escaping from prison sounds a good idea. All assets in LS are frozen but are still there should you wish to venture back

This is how id like it done

No transition, I'm sure they will be too lazy to even make something which would explain a clean slate/transferred character.

That said, I'd love for them to put the time in to make a final heist in LS which goes wrong and you must leave town fast. Leaving behind all cash, cars, properties, weapons, reputation etc. At best, you get to "escape" with a little money in your pocket (returning player bonus of $500k or whatever).

A few years ago I would have said "If they make me start again for GTA Next I wont play it" (translated to I would play it but I'd complain). Now, not so much. I actually look forward to having to work up the ladder again, earn money and RP to get to the top. It would give reason to actually play it. Transferring the millions I'll likely have in the bank by then, stats and RP would shorten it's life a lot. Same sh*t different map and all that.

Perhaps keep stats like strength, flying, driving, stealth and lung capacity but that's it, and keep the character (as in how you look).

I just want a full restart to be honest :p

At least a new character creation from the ground up...because the one we got really sucks.

I like the idea of being released or escaping prison. A good alternative to my bumbled heist idea.

I think it could be as easy as going to the airport, boarding a plane, cutscene and then your in the new city. Travel back and forth as you like. If you have money in the bank you can buy stuff in the new city, otherwise it's grinding or shark cards

I also think we'll start out leaving prison, imo it's the only plausible way to strip us of everything we attained in GTAO.... Or we're sent away into witness protection. Same deal.

If the next game doesn't improve, I don't see myself transitioning to it at all.

don't worry now-a-days there's over 50 recognized genders i'm pretty sure you'll be able to make your character identify as an attack chopper in the next GTAO ;)

i hope they dont keep the weird character creation but if they do we should be able to choose one of our gta5 characters as a parent. they should just copy the character editor from black desert if you ask me.
