Grand Theft Auto Online just had its best money-making quarter ever

Not sure why military vehicles get as much hate as they do, personally. The flying bike isn't a military vehicle. I disavow it as one.

 

Though I guess the APC having insurance on it has dirtied the name of military vehicles somewhat. Tanks and helis are somewhat honourable in that they don't push that on you. Plus they haven't been added in years.

 

Normal stuff does deserve its turn too though I guess. And clothes for Quinn_flower and others.

When the game has sold 74 million copies and has around 8 million players a week, I really wouldn't be saying "majority".

8 million players a week is plenty, far more than some of the most popular video games out right now. What, you want all 74m (well 80m+ now, don't know where the fk you got 74 from) who bought the game to log in every week?

Even with all the backlash on mods, negative steam reviews, hackers ruining PC for almost every legit player, no new content whatsover for Single player since 2015 and not a single story expansion?

They were overpowered for too much time, which eventually stained their image.

 

The Tank only got a well deserved nerf in mid to late 2014, players had almost a full year to grief and torture newcomers with it.

 

Then, it was the Jets, after the Tank nerf, some griefers moved to the Lazer, then the Hydra came around and everyone and their mother had to have one, making the access to it too easy.

And let's not forget that the Jets were the fastest vehicles in the game, with the only rapid-firing explosive ammo available.

 

So, from 2014 all the way until 2017, which when R* finally added a decent counter measure for the jets, which is when explosive ammo for the sniper rifle was finally added, after sitting unused in the game's coding for almost 4 years, griefers took advantage of the Jets to ruin everything for everyone and walk away unpunished.

 

Since both were armed military vehicles, it was only natural for players grow hate for for them.

I enjoy military vehicles a lot as yet another mode of transportation, and now we're also able store and customise many of these vehicles. Not bad.

 

But this is not the same game I bought and fell in love with many moons ago, and not the same game it was two years ago when I bought my next-gen console, and not even the same game it was before Christmas.

 

I'm on red-alert all the time now. Freemode has become a warzone, and practically every new game mode seems to be an Adversary Mode.

 

And that's what GTA is becoming - a continuous battlezone where we bash the living daylights out of each other. Why? Because that's what makes money for T2. Not development, nor building, constructing or exploring, but activities that focus on destroying, interrupting and hindering other people's progress. I guess real life is like this too? If you could strip out war and aggression the world would be a better place, but that's the reality - we fight each other and essentially go nowhere, and progress (including GTA progress) is very slow as a result.

There's that one very special class of vehicles you've missed out though. And I never had a problem with this certain class of vehicles (or ever knew anyone that did).

 

We always get caught in the middle.

If you're talking about helicopters, well, I really don't see that many players around(not from here) that are interested in them.

 

I haven't seem any hate for them either, to be honest.

 

 

I think the problem with military vehicles, is that, I believe, they never were the focus of the series, they always were there in the background as the cool vehicles you could get later in the game to cause mayhem when you felt like.

 

But with Online, since Heists and now with gun running, military vehicles have been the main focus and that just feels forced and out of the focus of this game.

QUICK!! Someone start a "What will you do when the GTA Online servers are shut down?" thread ASAP!!

 

Doubt the servers will be shut down anytime soon. But R* needs to stop with the updates sooner then later.

 

They have to Push out Red Dead 2 soon.. And i would like a new GTA before 2020. I think theres one more major update comming before the end of the year.. And im thinking that next one will be stupidly over priced.

 

I wonder how R* and Take Two are gonna make the switch to GTA 6. They will want players to start over and buy things all over again.. Unless they put GTA V/O to rest sooner or later.. Its gonna be a tricky one.

 

 

I agree, GTA Online is here to stay for a long time. Possibly years to come. WIll there continually be new content? Probably not but I doubt GTA online San Andreas will shut down before 2020, if ever.

 

I get a headache anytime I think about how they will address character transfer, if they even allow it, with GTA Online 2.0. There is just SO much to take into account and every option I come up with will end up alienating one segment or the other.

 

The more I think about it, the more I realize that character transfer should not happen. Maybe give returning players a $1 - 2 Million "returning player bonus" but otherwise, everyone starts out on an even playing field. This is really the only way to ensure no modded money or characters are transferred and keep the economy somewhat in check so that inflation isn't as horrible as it currently is in GTAO.

It's really strangely worded - reporting results for a fiscal year that hasn't even occurred yet, when normally companies report results for the income and revenue of LAST year. The real results.

 

This seems to be an OUTLOOK for T2 shareholder earnings for next year, and what they are likely to earn through GTAO consumer shark-card spending, One things's for sure, Take-Two are making an increased and very tidy profit.

i have been playing games for the last 26 years and even with all it flaws, in my book, gtao still the best of it genre, the success and the popularity of it even after 4 years atest to it.

The tank never needed that armor nerf. The only issue with the tank back then is the same issue the armored Kuruma has now. C* were too stupid to give it it's own special blip on the radar so you'd know the guy was in a tank.

like i said before, even with all it flaws, gtao still a solid game, if it was half as terrible as you describe it, it would have died down already but thats not the case. "gta killers" have come and gone and gtao still standing.

I was afraid of this. Their strategy works. And how could it not? They've got literally 0 competition, they can do what they want. I keep hoping that someone makes a game like this, but better, but R* would probably sue the sh*t out of them.

this lack of competition could have a negative effect on future releases.

 

competition brings the best out of people, being on the top alone with no one threatning to take your place, can lead to lazyness and lack of innovation!

And now r* will start pushing even harder as gtao gets older. They'll release hunters and big tanks that REQUIRE schematics and 3 day long research periods.

 

Benny will offer upgrades for the Hermes and Dominator classic, and will take 7 in game days to finish his "brilliant" work.

 

Of course, all that waiting can be dismissed with a fast tracking option of course...

For the money, it's the best game I've ever played and I too have played games since the early 80's. The first game I played was Blitz on the Vic 20 at primary school. I've been through all iterations of the home computer, arcade games, early consoles, right through to what we have now. At risk of sounding like an old fart (which I am) kids these days can't imagine the really, really sh*te games and hardware we used to think were good.

 

We couldn't have imagined GTAO back then. Hell, we couldn't even imagine the internet back then.

 

Sure GTAO has flaws, lots of them. But the overall package, in terms of longevity, gameplay, freedom to play as you like and create gameplay with others, it's definitely up there. We are still playing it enthusiasticallly four years after release. How many other games can honestly boast that?

 

There are some quality titles around, and quality franchises, but as a game that you can pick up and play, and each time you play it will give you something different. Yeah, I think it is probably is the best game I've played.

I definitely spend more hours on GTAO than I used to, but i'm not playing it.

And playing enthusiasticly? Nope, I'm currently pushing myself to play this game because I don't have any other game to play, I don't have much money to spend and honestly, PS4 doesn't have much interesting games for me right now.

 

And GTA San Andreas kept me coming back to it, for SIX YEARS, on PS2 (no SAMP or MTA for me) until I could buy a PS3 and GTA IV.
