To the people that have the Insurgent/Technical Custom, can NPC's still laser hit you with the armour?

When I have gotten the vehicles on missions NPC's seem to find the magical gaps between panels or the windows.

I wanna buy the Insurgent upgrade but if I can still be shot I might as well stick with my Kuruma, hell a van has better defence.

Yes. The window plating isn't actually there if you shoot the plates, you hear glass cracking and eventually breaking, meaning it only *looks* like it's there. I think it's a glitch but for the time being if you just want bulletproofing, neither of these vehicles are the thing to get.

That definitely hasn't changed yet. Kuruma is still the vehicle of choice for anyone who wants to be safe from 95% (?) of all bullets fired at them. The Insurgent was the vehicle of choice to survive explosive attacks.

The Pickup Custom is really just a convenient replacement for your regular old Insurgent (mine was removed by the game for some reason so that's handy with my garage space). Basically it's a double upgrade from the basic Insurgent model. Now you can actually store the one that holds more players and has a gun. Put the proximity mine modification on top of that and you've got one hell of an upgrade over your old bomb runner.

EDIT: It's probably easiest to remember like this. Kuruma for NPC's, Insurgents for players.

Unless we're talking very low rank players in which case they might actually be new (not low rank secondary characters of rich veterans) and won't have much in the way of explosives to use against you. Ofcourse if you're playing in free aim sessions it also becomes harder to hit you as you're driving past other players and then the Insurgent becomes more valuable than the Kuruma because it will survive an RPG exploding near you.

The insurgent is only resistant against explosives, but against bullets unfortunately is infinitely much better the kuruma.

So stick with the Kuruma?

I dont go looking for players to fight so wasting money on the upgrade would be pointless.

Pretty much, yeah. NPC's tend to use explosives rarely in missions and such. Worst you've got to look out for is when NPC controlled aircraft use missiles but that typically only happens when you're in the air yourself. Stick with the car!

The extra/optional paneling around the turret actually has proven functional.

If you invest in the IP Custom, either go for the medium armor so as the driver you can still use small firearms while gunners have front protection.

Or if you have solid gunner opportunities/people who will often use that position, the heavy armor covers the back of the gunner as well.

^ but with the heavy armor, as the driver you won't be able to use weapons despite your personal safety is not increased.

Don't invest in the IP Custom if you plan on using it like a Kuruma.

The Kuruma makes missions against NPC's a breeze, just anything to lessen the slog of grinding.

Even some veterans are surprised when I'm driving it in Heist setups. Once my mate almost had a heart attack on a CMM run when I took it to attack that convoy.

Huh, might have to elaborate on that.

I've had a Carbonizzare since the game was first out on lg & still have it on cg, gotten shot by NPCs plenty of times when driving it.

^ Are you sure?

The Carbonizzare is bulletproof against NPCs, in contact missions for sure. They simply cannot hit your body.

Wow, that's weird... do you know why?

I guess it's just your hitbox vs where NPCs aim vs where the Carb has bodywork. You do sit quite low in it.

Someone on here put me onto it ages back, not driven mine much recently but I thought it still held.

eta I'm loading up rooftop rumble in a bit to see what's what, and then will test against some headshotting motherf*ckers in Headhunter or whatnot.

Sweet! Thanks. Finally an armed and armoured vehicle that seats 4 people and can be used in heists.

Yep, it's quite fun to use your own personal Insurgent Pickup in the Convoy setup mission.

Although the APC does have more/ similar armour against more types of explosive weaponry and has been available since early June when Gunrunning released and the rear passengers are probably less exposed.

Yup & even if it was, it's ALOT slower & the driver cannot use any weapons, whereas with the Insurgent Custom allows that unless the Heavy Armor is used.

This was the first "sport" car I ever bought in the game. Got rid of it years ago. Looks like I'll be goin all nostalgic and sh*t now.
