Thanks for Nothing, Mom! [What Kills Your GTAO Experience]

You're flying across the landscape in your Buzzard, closing in on the toolbag on the Oppressor who just killed you while you were buying an outfit - you can see him, bouncing over rooftops, his icon and name flickering as he goes around buildings... He's just about yours!

Then your mom bursts in and says, "I thought I told you I wanted you off this game twenty-five minutes ago?! You've been playing ALL day and it's beautiful outside and your in here rotting your brain with that stupid game! I want you to shut it off right now and get your room cleaned up and..."

Being a dad, I admit to doing it to my own kids, who aren't as astute about their gaming time as their old man.

… But, maybe it's not your mom who bursts in. Maybe it's your dad. Or a sibling?
… Maybe you get a text, Snapchat, or phone call?
… Perhaps you just need to pee really really really badly. Or worse!
… Or you got booted out of the session, brashly informed, "Connection to the server was lost due to... blah blah whogivesarat'sbehind!"

So, as in typical fashion, what are some of the ways that interfere and literally kill your immersive experience in GTAO?

It doesn't even have to make you stop playing; just interferes to the point where you're head is pulled out of the game and abruptly back to reality.
And please, don't even think of saying, "one of your lame threads, dude!" cuz that would just be hurtful.

In my experience, getting kicked from lobbies tends to end my run prematurely.

Or the game splitting the server.

Things that kill my GTAO experience:
New updates
My friend's dead PC
Parents telling to go mind other business but playing PC

Jets flying over my house in real life.

When I log into GTAO and the general voice chat, which I have turned off, bugs and becomes active anyway. Hearing lots of 12-year-olds having screechy screaming matches really puts off my mood. So does players who play sh*tty music really loud without speaking into the mic. Just turn it off, you f*cks. Or do you wanna hear some blasting death metal? No, didn't think so.

 

Also players who stop by and honk at me. No, I don't wanna ride with you. They can honk for several minutes before finally realizing(?) that they're being rejected. Don't you have anything better to do in this game? Unbelievable...

 

The last few DLC:s have done some great work in putting off my mood as well. The themes and new missions/activities just don't appeal to me.

• Knowing I have the ability to magically spawn a helicopter anywhere I want
• Lobbies emptying in the middle of a Freemode Challenge
• Ability to buy full-price designer clothes from a thrift shop
• Inability to buy anything from Cluckin' Bell or Burger Shot
• Any time a Hydra is in a session
• 'Locked' Interior Doors
• Cooldowns
• Unrealistic steak

Lol my mom ain't never had a problem with me playing games but my time management has been about normal since middle school. I can't for the life of me play a game for more than an hour and a half straight unless I just got it or something really new just came out.

 

Seeing as I play GTA Online mainly as a source of relaxation these days, what kills my mood are house noises. I can't believe we've basically got a theater room but no bloody door so you can hear everything in the house from noisy relatives to slamming, clanging dishes. sh*t drives me mad. And it mostly does stop me from playing when it starts but that'a true with all of the other relaxation activities I do. The life of someone with misophonia smh...

 

Also when people come in to see what I'm doing and expect to see more than me just driving/walking around civilized and sightseeing.

TakeTwo being massive c*nts and trying to push microtransactions even harder.

 

R* for pushing PvP, and ignoring PvE outright.

 

R* for using BS lazy game design like the AI being over the top (and the fanboys for defending this sh*t)

 

R* for removing missions and not adding new ones.

 

R* for adding Creator types for races and sh*tty DMs, but no mission creator.

 

R* for not even trying to balance out the gameplay. Homing Launcher was the start, the new update was the worst.

 

R* for locking out Special Vehicles from contract missions. Yes, I'm still bitter I paid 5 mil for the Ruiner 2k only to not be able to use it for how I wanted. 2 (3?) updates later, more OP ones are now storable and there's no restrictions with missions. Yet, SP vehicles, still are locked out. Nice.

Lol when my mom tells me to do an irl errand that can't wait and has to be done in an instant.

 

I remember during double cash on Heists three months ago I was almost at the boat in the Pac Standard Finale with no cash lost but then out of nowhere my mom opens my door to tell me something and I can't stop my bike because cops are chasing me so I let it go while I talk to my mom while the controller is still in my hand. I resume playing and my bike just slightly nudges the middle of a two police car roadblock and I fall off which gives them plenty time to shoot me repeatedly.

 

ALMOST a flawless run, ALMOST. On the bikes too. Lol fml, irl really got in the way of that one.

As for my past I was obviously interrupted by my parents and my lovely neighbours. I really don't know how certain people can be considered "parents" when they let their kids ride their bike inside the apartment. Hopefully my friend Mr. Broom was always there to help me

I was weary when the Ruiner 2000 and rocket voltic were announced, but I was able to avoid them for the most part at the time and it didn't change the game too much for me. Since Gunrunning came out, I hardly touch it anymore. I bought everything, I tried to give it a chance, but it took my interest right out of the game. It's not GTA to me. I've actually started story mode recently since I had completed it on PS3 a few years ago and now I am on PS4. But I have little to no interest for online anymore.

Here I am goofing around with my friend on LS Highway near Airport LSC, not ten minutes later we have 3 nice people in Insurgent looking for a fight. When I try to earn $100k quickly then go play something else, and it takes me 40 minutes to even start doing anything because of the constant cloud simulator special events, returning to GTAV bonuses and general bullsh*t.

 

If you accept an invite to a PSJ heist that's full, you might as well just ALT+F4 immediately to avoid the inevitable infinite loading when you decline to spectate or some other thing happens...
