Super Shizuku
My first Age of Empires was 2, and back then I didn't really mind much about the "slow" game speed since I thought that was normal. But after I have played AoE 1 then move on to 2, I have no idea why the game speed feels downgraded compared to the original game even if I set it into fast, I noticed how different the fast mode between AoE 1 and 2. I mean, the first game runs okay, but why is it necessary to slow down the game speed for sequel. I did use cheat engine to make it's speed similar but it makes dialogue a little bit too fast. Though at least I know how to change the game speed via hotkeys. Of course AoE isn't the only franchise with that change. GTA VC, for instance, runs faster than SA But I don't really mind that much since SA is still enjoyable with that speed. Keep in mind that this isn't about lag. Mister Pink
Please don't post one-word posts. ^ Games like FIFA change speed every year. The pace of gameplay can be changed via the menus too. I suppose that's a creative choice up to the developers. And the game speed in FIFA is more obvious, passing is quicker and overall end to end play is faster. Playing sequels can be testing, especially if they've tweaked something not your liking. You say it's a downgrade but you still enjoy SA at that speed. So I'm not sure what the issue is. The issue of speed between VC and SA never seemed to be a bone of contention with anyone in my experience. Maybe between SA and IV where Niko is clearly and demonstrably more sluggish and less quick to respond to controls unlike 3D era. But not from VC to SA. There maybe less frames of animation for Tommy Vercetti. So when you press to go left/right he turns quick because you are seeing less frames. CJ may have more frames of animation so you see more animation. It's a stab at why you think it's faster because your being a little vague. Generally speaking if the speed of a game changes, watching reviews from fans will give you an indication and some insight as to why they like or dislike the speed change. You may find that speed changes offered other players ability to do 'x' that wasn't there before. Coin
In the case of Age of Empires specifically, the decrease in game speed between 1 & 2 is because 2 is more micro-intensive (before even considering specific civs that are themselves more micro intensive on top of that), if I had to hazard a guess. No one at a decent level of play really plays anything higher than normal speed as is. Mister Pink
