I just hope that it's not set in Liberty City because we've already been there back in 2008 and now it's the time rockstar revisit Vice City and I just hope VI is not like GTA IV which was a huge disappointment imo in terms of gameplay, missions, physics and etc (except for storyline because the storyline was incredible)

i doubt they would end the series but the next one will probably  be the last for a while maybe the last if the east coast rumour is true with lc and vc dont know where you go from there ideal would be project americas with miami and new cities with lc maybe as the final big update for the current online via map expansion but as long as gta 4 is on next gen i am content with current lc

Maybe they could do Vice city and Carcer city together

that way we go back to a fan fav and also get a new city

I honestly think that Rockstar never does anything random, with no reason. History taught us that. I think 6 is gonna be massive and the tech permits it already. I still hope for a map with all cities and a closure for the 3D era.

Thats exactly the design philosophy they used for red dead 2,but with gta i expect no connections with maps

backwards combatibility takes VI ps4 release completely out of the ballpark

Once a month a two I check the GTA V map thread and catch old vibes. Can't wait for a legit GTA6 thread... Feels like it should happen very soon, and at the same time it looks like it will be long 2 years away...
Even with the Casino DLC the game becomes boring in a few days again... Hopefully, with the NG, R* could expand GTA6 from time to time.

and why ?

you're not the only one to say that with this argument of the backwards compatibility but I don't understand the reason or it's me who don't understand the concept of the backwards combatibility

Well backwards compatibility means that a PS4 game can be ran on a PS5, leaving no reason why Rockstar, for example, to hurry up and make two versions, one for PS4, one for PS5 as the game could not sell in the second run, PS4 game being already compatible with the PS5.

yes but we all know that the PS5 version will be improved compared to the PS4 version to encourage people to buy the game a second time as they did with GTA 5

Unlikely. Some people would, but most of the people which would buy PS5 version would be the ones, which didn't buy the PS4 one.

This leaves us with a less improved base for the game (PS4 wise) and I don't think they would want to not take full advantage of all the PS5 platform has to offer.

They could still pull off the old and next gen trick. It's like playing ps3/360 gta v on current-gen, there still is a reason to upgrade to current-gen gta v.

This 50 country gambling ban might have f***ed some of R* plans for GTA Online number 2?

It certainly won't help them. But they'll still make a f*ckton of money from all the other countries. And that's just the casino gambling stuff. Keep in mind GTA Online 1 has been making millions for 5+ years before they even introduced a casino.

Right? Exactly my same thoughts. I think people messed up in their minds that BC works on PS4, so that PS5 games will work on PS4, so there will be no special release for PS4 since there will be one on PS5... Only with this thinking I can see how the "BC" argument can be used but it's a fallacy to think this way, obviously.

With today's consumptionism, I really doubt this one. People buy the same game even if it's re-released with a new artwork, let alone an upgraded version of the biggest game ever.

Also they could release the game at the same time for next gen and current gen, for those who have only PS4 and those who already upgraded (at that time) to PS5.

There's no guarantee that every PS4 game will work on PS5. Pretty sure that will be up to the publisher just like it is now on Xbox. Sony already said that games will be released on both generations for awhile.

The leaks have a consistent through line that GTAVI will need improved hardware as it will be heavily reliant on memory and graphics.  Sony and Microsoft want to sell new consoles and they know that GTAVI will be the killer app for the latest consoles. I expect a fall 2021 or early 2022 release for GTAVI to allow for adequate time for sales or PS5 and next Xbox to build for the release. I predict we should see a trailer fall this year or something by spring 2020 at the latest for GTAVI if it is indeed their next game.

I think the patent that Sony have filed shows that it will be all PS4 games. Given they use the same architecture, it's not hard. Unlike 360 to X1, where games had to be individually tested and patched, the next generation should be not too different than putting a PS4 or X1 game in a Pro or Scorpio, to put it extremely simply.

It's pretty impressive

As far as I can tell, every PS4 game will be playable on PS5, which in theory, would leave little space for companies to remaster a game:

Sony has yet to confirm all PS4 games will be obligatorily playable on PS5, but if it is, double dip will probably not be a thing anymore.

Day by day I'm starting to lean on Bully 2 being the next game,  @Yan2295 could be right...

Game like Bully 2, solid, maybe smaller in size title would give more time for VI to be something extra special

Timeline would then be something along the lines of    Bully 2: 2020-2021  GTA VI: 2022-2023

two years between R* titles sounds okay, and would surely please Strauss Zelnick demands on less time between releases

I don't think that's a concern. It is in theory, yes. But in reality, if a developer or publisher wants to 'remaster' a game, and add extra bells and whistles they probably will. The BioShock trilogy is backwards compatible, but also has a remaster, for example. I know the remaster came first. But I just don't think it rules out remasters like some people think. Mass Effect 1 -3 is backwards compatible, and fans (myself included) desperately want a remaster/remake. Same with Fallout 3 and new Vegas.

The more interesting question, I think, is how will they deal with 2020 games. Will they get next gen updates, like Xbox One X Enhanced games? That could be one avenue they go for potential 'remasters'. Even if it is less profitable, in theory.

That's the most likely scenario, IMO.

Yeah, technologically it may be possible but I don't think it legally is. If a publisher publishes a game for PS4, Sony doesn't get to decide that their new console also gets that game. It's up to the publisher.

Either way, I brought it up because someone said backwards compatibility will make double dipping obsolete and that's just not true. Cerny has already said many games will release on both ps4 and ps5.

I KNOW THAT, I KNOW ABOUT THIS PS5 BC "LEAK", but it DOESN'T give it any more sense to why would GTA VI only release on PS5 if that was the case...

If the backwards compatibility is native (and not through software like the X1 BC) every PS4 game should automatically be playable on the PS5. For example you can play every Wii game on the WiiU and every DS game on the 3DS.

I never specifically said which platform GTA VI would release, the only thing I said was a remaster MIGHT not be a thing due BC. In that case, they would either release the game on PS4/xb1 and when PS5/Xbox releases, the game will automatically be playable or if they want to reach the game's full potential, only release the game on PS5/Xbox. Of course, this is assuming all PS4/XB1 games will be playable on next gen.
