Right?! If this wasn't true, Red Dead Online would never have worked in the first place (I am not saying Red Dead Online is a success, but it isn't bad either. GTA Online is much more "attractive").

The fact is that they never did it for a main title.

GTA I takes place in 1997 and was released in 1997.

GTA II takes place "three weeks into the future" in 1999 and was released in 1999.

GTA III takes place in 2001 and was released in 2001.

GTA IV takes place in 2008 and was released in 2008.

GTA V takes place in 2013 and was released in 2013.

GTA San Andreas and GTA Vice City are spin-off games, so Rockstar probably felt more free to do whatever they wanted with them. Just like they did with Chinatown or London, 1961.

It's therefore safe to assume that GTA VI (if it's actually GTA VI and not a spin-off) will take place the year (or around the year) of its release. Just deal with it.

It would be really cool if theres multiple car/motorcycle dealerships around the map(s)

Makes your character feels more immersive with the city

sometimes it's better to ignore those people..,

I find it just as lightly irritable when they push back..,

though in the sense they put above..,

that does make sense..,

but R* doesnt seem to have the form to run multiple gtas indev..,

R* seems to have gone with numbered gtas rn..,

it would be nice and interesting if they released a g ta thst isn't numbered, t hats a time piece as they have done so far..,

besides some wording seems to come across as desperation for that time..,

which then feeds those who only want to push the idea..,

like a certain person who has what can be said is a "racing game title-gta" may come across as abit rude..,

yes like all those people here who still believe in a GTA in the 80s in the HD era and after the success of GTA Online

Yes, GTA Online is much more attractive and popular than Read Dead Online because it's an open world set in modern time. People love owning multiple high end apartments, driving the latest supercars, etc., basically roleplaying as if they were as successful in real life. They enjoy getting a taste of what they could experience if they were that wealthy in real life.

well..,

C ant say he isn't wrong about some people..,

they are enjoying the game for their own reasons..,

(besides even people who have a good place in life play.., it's mostly people who s houldnt be playing these games due to how long they have existed that are that way..,)

and tbh.., the whole era thing..,

it's just a hardware platform..,

since those games were so quick to make(relatively) in one generation..,

it was easier to keep references and universe..,

with GTA now.., it takes longer cause our expectations have grown..,

the more time it takes the less gtas there are..,

like I said above..,

would be nice for there to be a non-numbered GTA eventually, or soon..,

but I really d ont get how r* isn't capable at the moment to improve their dev..,

but I think this has gone abit too far..,

sorry to the person we skipped over their comment before..,

____

more ways to go about buying products and property to enrich the experience will be great..,

no matter when and where..,

tbh.., gtao player characters are so under stress to make cash..,

they must be in need of a break to just shut the day off and go visit a dealer..,

unfortunately the only one that wants to open their doors is f.., Simeon..,

Well that may not be your case or my case but it's definitely one of the main reasons why people love the GTA games. "Rising to the top" is a crucial aspect to GTA whether you like it or not.

Another argument that I believe is very important is the customer lifetime value coupled with the lifespan of a game. Yes for the last few years we enjoyed a 80s revival, but can you imagine playing a GTA set in the 80s for the next 10 years? Do you think most people would still play that game 10 years from now and not get sick of that 80s thing? What would the future online DLCs look like if the game was stuck in the 80s? If GTA Online can enjoy crazy updates that make all of those people still play it's exactly because it's set in the present day. GTA VI Online will enjoy many DLCs that'll make Rockstar a lot of money because they will be able to make profit from anything that's possible today and from anything that was possible yesterday.

Again, Vice City was released only 1 year after GTA III and San Andreas was released 2 years after Vice City. By comparison GTA V was released 5 years after GTA IV and GTA VI will be released almost 10 years after GTA V. Red Read Redemption 2 was released 8 years after the first. Rockstar can make a lot of money without releasing a lot of games and GTA VII will probably be released more than 8 years after GTA VI, so GTA VI has to be profitable, and I don't see how it'd be more profitable if it was set in the 80s rather than today.

people still play III, VC and SA so why would they refuse to play the newest entry after a couple of years? besides when it comes to DLCs it's not out of the question to assume that R* might release all kinds of sci-fi vehicles, weapons and even modern cars in a DLC disguised as a futuristic-themed one. when it comes to GTA Online i don't think you would have to worry about that stuff. GTAO is set in the present day yet the vehicles that we drive and the weapons that we use don't even exist in real life. with that in mind ask yourself if it would be unlikely for R* to release modern stuff in the form of DLC for GTAO2. i think the answer is obvious

People who still play III, VC and SA do so out of nostalgia and generally with mods. Those people barely make Rockstar any money.

Is it supposed to be reassuring to think about a GTA game with sci-fi stuff? Do you want flying cars? A DeLorean that leave fire trails? Arcade machines with sh*tty games? Laser guns?

I don't. Period. And if I wanted that I could still play Saints Row.

I don't. Maybe for fun as a DLC, but not constantly for 8-10 years.

no I don't but I figured you do since you insist on technology being an important part of future GTA titles. keep pushing for a GTA that puts heavy emphasis on modern technology and you'll definitely get laser guns and flying cars

Nothing personal, man. I trust you but don't trust that guy. Looks like he "pranked" you... I didn't like his style of writing also.
At first message he says gta6 will use new engine based on rage, after some time he says it will be rage... Lots of water, imo.
And this info is an opposite to Ash's leak. I would trust him more than this infamous guy.
Anyway, thanks for sharing and giving the fuel for speculators and dreamers)

Well, in the first message he clearly states that GTA VI will undoubtedly use RAGE engine...

Not that it proves anything, but that guy's writing seems kinda 'authentic' to me, reminds me a bit of the style that other dude who worked for R* also had, when leaking legit info about V years ago.

Can you be so kind and direct me towards what Ash has said about this particular matter?

My argument is that current - and future, to an extent - technology and modernity make the immersion, the enjoyability, and the replayability more possible for the maximum amount of Rockstar's customers. GTA Online from the late 2020s will be slightly different than the GTA Online we will get at launch because GTA Online can profit both from today's culture as well as any culture from the past. That's why a 80s-themed DLC is more likely than a full game set in the 80s because a GTA Online from the 80s will get old faster than you think. Maybe not for you because you love the 80s, but for a lot of players it will. Especially since we know we probably won't get another GTA until the early 2030s.

You people need to think long-term. Just because we experience a 80s revival now it doesn't mean it'll still be cool and not overdone 5 years from now.

Here we go again... "we can't have GTA set in the past because of the GTAO" logic. How in the hell RDR2 exists then? How all these supposed kids could enjoy the game set in the past, huh? There is literally nothing that stops having the next GTA game set in the past. Just because GTAO is successful that means we gotta go modern because of what exactly? GTAO formula can work very well in the let's say 1980's setting... even more so if you think about it. Building an empire and sh*t. Fits more there. I would understand if we were talking about 1920's or something like that then yeah maybe, but we're not. Also what if the story is in the past and online is set today, what about that, huh? Also the fact that all GTA numeric titles are set in the times of their release doesn't mean sh*t.

@Len Lfc I have read your thread (analyzing past to predict future) and in my opinion you are the best one here to define the credibility of "leaks". What do you think about @_MK_'s chat with this other guy?

I think whoever wrote it is extremely sensible and knowledgeable about Rockstar Games and GTA, if it were fake. It's written well, and is pretty safe all round. There's nothing extreme or super exciting that a 12 year old fake leaker would write or add, like; "GTA 6 will be set in 7 cities and you can do X Y & Z" It's a very safe 'boring' leak that says pretty much what you'd expect.

I'm not sure about his assessment of RDR2 on PC, though. My understanding was that the game was always built with PC in mind, they would just focus on the console version first. But of course I have no first hand experience with this.

He does reference this leak https://www.dexerto.com/gta/rockstar-games-tester-drops-major-clue-about-gta-6-locations-with-hidden-message-599052 Which we went on to prove could be innacurate, as anyone could sign up and leave a review. But that does not mean it IS fake. The first one can be real, and followed up by fakes, of course. However again, the cons list is kinda' public knowledge.

I think as far as leaks go this one is entirely believable. It doesn't do anything incredibly obvious to give it away, and it doesn't say anything that seems was written to get us overly excited.

TBH I don't care if it's gonna be the 70s, 80s or the 90s. I just want a period piece. I want a game that doesn't force me to use a smartphone or the internet. Smartphones were cool when Apple released their first iPhone. These days it's just yet another technological annoyance that a modern society can't do without. It would be so much more interesting if we had to use payphones or landline. Ordering stuff online is even more cancerous. Now you can just sit on your ass and have stuff delivered for you. Where's the fun in that? I'd rather drive to a dealership myself, buy a new car and drive it back home to my garage. It would be so much more rewarding. Do we really have to be lazy even when we play video games? Do you want to know the future of Grand Theft Auto? f*cking autonomous cars that warp you from one mission to another. It's gonna happen sooner or later. There's no way that R* won't put autonomous cars in the game. At this point most of people will experience GTA like a Naughty Dog style linear story. You still think that keeping it modern is a good idea?

There will be more modern GTA games and I realise that but at this point I'm just so incredibly bored with this concept. We already had two modern GTA titles in a row. It's time for a game that doesn't try to be a commentary on modern day bullsh*t and instead focuses on telling a compelling story and being an actual game. A game, not some virtual reality safe zone through which we could live out our unfulfilled ambitions

Its a bit of a boring building tbh. Could see some artwork just inside the door. All different variations of the R* logo.  Then just some guy manning the desk at the front. All the windows blacked out otherwise lol.
