It seems so fitting because it's what you're wishing for. It's simply a choice driven by what kind of a story and world they would like to present next time, and not what fans are expecting or wishing for. A Vice City, or let's say a Vice State setting, wouldn't provide the environmental and scenic variety that, say, a Northern San Andreas (i.e. San Fierro  + Las Venturas) setting would, not even anywhere close. With how the RAGE technology has developed over the years, with the latest example of a world that runs on the engine being Redemption 2, it'd be more fitting, from technology and environmental storytelling point of views, that they would target to re-imagine a US-based geographical zone where there's a lot of variety in terms of the environments and climate zones. It's what a SF&LV-based setting can provide, from mountain ranges, snowy peaks, forests and woodlands, to wetlands and deserts.

 

R* would do Grand Theft Auto VI a disservice by basing it on a geographical zone that is limited and flat in terms of the environments, with the only interesting part, of a supposedly Vice State, being the swamp and may extend to rain forests in nearby islands. The most fitting, and arguably logical choice, would be to build and improve upon the legacy of Redemption 2 with all the environmental technology that has been developed specially for it. The snow technology, as an example, should be put to use again and not discarded, and it also can lend itself to fun features, such as snowmobiling and ski resorts.

There is more to the time period than just technology. It's about being able to deliver a story. And the '80s is a time period that has a lot of them. Crazy ones too. Stories from the past give off an "authentic" feeling. If they go back to modern times, it would just feel too much like GTA 5/Online and would offer nothing exciting since they brought so much content for GTA Online. Also, if Rockstar can make games like VC, RDR2, SA, etc.. and all of them have been really good, then GTA VI should not be an exception at all. And they said they have a lot of ideas that they have in mind, the chances of those ideas all being modern because of the "success of GTA V" is 0%. GTA Online went off rails a long time ago when they first introduced weaponized vehicles which ultimately paved the way to even more unrealistic and weaponized DLCs and constant griefing. It ruined the gritty atmosphere and the feeling of rising up from the streets to become somebody and turned it into a modern/sci-fi mashed potato. Just because GTA Online was successful does not mean that it was successful BECAUSE it was modern. It was successful because there's new content that keep being shelled out. And also just because the kids like it should not mean that they wouldn't like a game set in the past as well. And also.. kids shouldn't even be playing these types of games.

Hahaha, developing is done on PC until devkits arrive, they they accomodate (optimise) games for certain consoles. I am sure they are deep in the development. 2027 is just crazy and your pessimism is annoying.

This is the most credible of (speculative information) I have seen so far. In 2016 GTAVI was supposedly in pre-production phase from a Techradar source. Rockstar usually begin with blocking out the map on projects first, which influences gameplay and mission design later in the project.  Separate engine builds for projects make sense as each project are different in nature and rely on different systems to work and do r&d. Everything reads pretty spot on, but still take with a grain of salt.

Although, there is some sort of fuzziness to the ambient like with RDR2. we start making an archive post pinned with every spec that is actually  has some sort of substance.

Nothing personal, man. I trust you but don't trust that guy. Looks like he "pranked" you... I didn't like his style of writing also.
At first message he says gta6 will use new engine based on rage, after some time he says it will be rage... Lots of water, imo.
And this info is an opposite to Ash's leak. I would trust him more than this infamous guy.

Use a payphone and make a call. Want a car go to the dealership and steal that motherf*cker because this is Grand Theft Auto after all, want a new house call the real estate agent buy that bitch, want to know what's going on in the world? Buy a newspaper.

 

 

Less technology would really help bring the series back to its criminal roots instead of the soft modern day hipster yoga criminal its become.

No, he doesn't. He says first that "I've seen some people say an entirely new engine was built. It's still using RAGE."

He says the engine is still RAGE, even though people claim it is a new one.

exactly. nothing stops R* from setting the game in whatever era they like. i just want people to stop trying to force this notion that GTA can't exist without all the modern tech
