I don't know what to think. Everyone of us wants everything crank to 11 next time. Shooting that, driving this, great storyline, huge map etc. I mean, the fact that we have to wait for so long and the huge hype there is going to be... One part of me is exited, other part is prepared to be disappointed in one way of another...

The big problem of big intervals between games is the expectation that is constantly growing. R* is shooting itself on the foot if a GTA 6 announcement doesn't come by the end of 2020...

Sad but true

i wouldn't call it sad. i hope to never see vehicle handling as bad as in GTA IV. for me it took away all the fun. i don't want to come to almost a full stop to take a corner. i want high speed chases to be possible without driving into buildings and road infrastructure. just because the cars sway and are hard to control doesn't make it fun. it does make it demanding but in a bad way

That's the bitter sweet part of it; we know that GTA VI is in development even though it isn't official yet. The fact that somewhere, right now, the game exists with much of the game world already created and much of its core-content created. That is what keeps me excited, knowing that the existence of GTA VI is already very much known in Rockstar's offices. Boy, are we in for a treat when it finally releases to the public some day...

You mean Hong Kong right? When you mentioned Tokyo in Sleeping Dogs I had to go boot it up really quick because I thought I missed out on a new city DLC or something.

Yeah, see what I mean? I would never in a million years mistake Liberty City for Chicago or Los Santos for Dallas, it's instantly recognizable and feels familiar even though the layouts are new and condensed, but I just straight up switched countries on sleeping dogs 😛

Now one can say "that's you, your error", but I am in the vast majority with that and found the setting boring and generic, whereas I have seen some people praise its location and say they nailed it. Those people are in a small minority of people and the locals there, I'm sure. If Sleeping Dogs was based in NY or LA, just for an example, it would have been more memorable and stand out to a much larger audience.

As a person who has traveled across the country 5 times on the road like a lightning bolt and been to many major cities, it's easy to see many as all the same, but LA and NYC and Philly have been stand out cities that are unmistakable and very recognizable. While I've driven around a lot, I've never been to Miami, but if I would say a new American city was plausible and able to recognized by the whole world, it'd be Philly at the top of the list. American Media is taken in all around the world. It's a very small minority of people in the world who watch or take in media from elsewhere regularly. Philly would be best in the 90s probably. There's just not that same recognizability to other places, though, and I may be overestimating the recognizability of Philly. I wonder if people around the world would have the same sentiment on Philly, or that would be debatable, too, even among native US people.

I really want to see Philly

To me Philadelphia just feels like a GTA city.  It's a pretty sh*tty place well the people make it seem like a sh*tty place. Also Camden, NJ is right across the river from it.

https://www.thrillist.com/lifestyle/philadelphia/why-philly-is-americas-greatest-and-worst-city

People piss on your lawn, crazy sports fans, the wingbowl (It ended recently but went on for a long time and the description of it sounds like something straight out of the GTA Universe)

A couple of shows and movies have been set there like the Rocky films along with Creed, and its always Sunny in Philadelphia so people would recognize it.

I think making Carcer City Philadelphia would work. I used to think it was Detroit or Chicago but I'd be happy if they made Carcer Philadelphia.

I hope they announce it soon. But sadly, with R* the announcement doesn't mean sh*t. The game always comes out 2 years after and will probably be delayed again.

Just announce the game and put it out on any of the 365 following days, JUST FOR ONCE, PLEASE.

For PC players the wait is even longer. We have to deal with it I guess. I'm personally interested in the information about the game more than playing it myself. I'm extremely curious what they planned out to do next.

Obviously we agree that it won't happen.....

…..but I also think it would be a bit of a shame. The last six months to a year before a new Rockstar game is the best time to be on this forum.

As soon as the first teaser trailer drops, the speculation explodes and the mapping thread begins. And then R* are absolute masters of keeping that hype train running as they roll out trailers and gameplay snippets and other bits & pieces of information, and we can start to guess at how the story and the game will unfold, and the mappers do their usual incredible job at predicting the world we'll see.

A new Rockstar game is an event, and I actively want that big build up!

Whilst this is highly improbable of transpiring, such a MIRACL3 would only see the light if The Creator’s next accolade was such a gorgeous, unprecedented replication of reality, to where a marketing campaign would not be warranted. Theoretically, all you would have to do is showcase any aspect of real life, such as a Google Image or even concepts of a game, brands et cetera or capture a 60-second video of your house, vehicle, just anything, and you have effectively marketed this game. That is how beautiful it would be. 🙂

This would be a remarkable and unprecedented feat that no such AAA nor indie development studio nor franchise has been able to feasibly touch. The game itself would be a literal, virtual reality simulator, wherein the player would possess the free reign to access any quadrant of the contiguous globe that he/she desires, via Google Maps, with everything that you see via Street View within that particular vicinity coming with it. Everything. The drivers and powerhouses of this experience would be: the Next-Generation of hardware, Sony and Microsoft’s cloud partnership, Google Maps, streaming, and therefore constant internet connectivity.

Plot twist 1: Xbox Scarlett’s Holiday 2020 release window could actually be a decoy for Holiday 2019, which would collide with the deployment of the PlayStation 5, possibly being unveiled at PSX. Agent, which had been announced at E3 2009, was designated exclusively for the PlayStation 3. Thus, if announced in October, it may be that the new intellectual property would have exclusivity to the PlayStation 5 for one week and then be available for the Xbox Scarlett in late November or early December. With the Next-Generation of hardware poised to render live-action presentations, this also most likely eliminated the hassle and guess work during the Creator’s map development process, because the map will be simulated and map data will simply be dynamically fetched from the cloud, via Google Maps. If the data for any given country or state should be altered, it would be reflected during our playing experience in real time, i.e. a building lost to a fire. 🙂

Plot twist 2: Every rumor or leak to-date, including that, which was predicated by ‘DeepthroatVI’, could very well be at the controlled discretion and execution of the Creator, per the assistance of preplanned coordination with magnifying glasses. The narrative strung out by the controlled rumors and leaks would strategically persist up until the theoretical PlayStation 5 market release exclusivity week in late November. The Creator in turn most likely elected to utilize this witty system to, quite frankly, gauge the naivety factor of the public and attack the notions of: ‘it can’t be done’, ‘they will never add that’, they only care about money, ‘nobody wants that’, *uck the Creator\Parent’. In the end... it would be a massive reality check that decimated the ‘never will be’s’ and ‘can’t be’s’. More specifically, it would be wins for the Creator, the Parent and the believers, whilst it would be a debilitating strike to the egos of the naive.

Plot twist 3: If the entire presentation of this game were to be that of a reality simulator, this would  for the first time, eliminate the two-years and a delay release scheme that the Creator is notorious for to ensure a quality product, and whose previous products have succumb to. The one-month allotment from the October announcement to the November release would be necessitated as to ensure that Sony and Microsoft’s new unified cloud system is operating to expectation; given that this game would migrate the multiplayer experience with the single player campaign... all bundled as a simulation of real life.

Plot twist 4: In conjunction with plot twist 3, because the map itself would literally be generated via Google Maps data of any quadrant of any state or country fetched at any time, this would also definitively for the first time, render a mapping thread unnecessary, because this landmark craftsmanship of the Creator would be your world to do with it what you wish, without limitation.

Plot twist 5: As an audacious and immersive game industry first, the  story mode would no longer be predefined, but rather nonlinear and simulated per actual events that are transpiring in real time/real life, thereby enabling the player to carve out his/her own unique tale and carry out a normal life. Their story would be altered dynamically based upon the individuals that they are acquainted with, carrying with that potential implications/ramifications and karma, per choices rendered.

If all of this were to come to fruition with a future Creator title or by another development studio with the Next-Generation... not only would tears roll, but you would not be able to feasibly trek to all of this diverse topography in your life time, let alone process how beautiful it is.

And... for whoever should successfully emblazon this in their development reel... they can eye the competition and say: ‘it’s over; you can’t touch this.

Here is for hoping that this dream sees the light. 🙂

Hypothetical question, would anyone here prefer a map that is considerably larger than GTA V, but is primarily City based? As in there would be other environments but if the game was say 3-4x the size of GTA V's world, would you be open to having the majority of the world be based in several cities rather than just rural countryside?

City A and B could take up 60% of the map cumulatively whereas the rural areas would encompass around 40% of the map, not including the oceans.

I would prefer a bigger city than what we've got currently tbh. For me HD universe LC and LS are to cramped to feel like huge metropolis. I feel like districts contains 2 or 3 streets and that's it. I know it ain't this bad but, I hope you get my point. If the map itself is huge and the city stays the same It would be fine to, I guess. I feel like It also depend on the setting. If hypothetical VC is the same size as LS and LC now, I guess it ain't that bad. I would be perfectly happy with that. Miami is not that huge from what I know. When it comes to LC I feel like its to small to feel like NYC. I was replaying GTA IV a some time ago and I wasn't having the same experience when I was playing for the first time back in the day. The feeling of being "lost" in these huge world is gone, and I don't mean "lost" literally. I hope you understand what I'm trying to tell.

With the scale of the worlds increasing, I believe that the in game cities being larger is a must.

Not 1 to 1 scale or anything but significantly larger than any previously seen GTA city.

I wouldn't want a map that is mostly just a concrete jungle with some countryside. It would completely kill the immersion for me. I want huge and open countryside with multiple towns and things to do. For me the rural areas are just as important as the city. If not more

if it was 3-4 times the size it is now..,

the above water landmass, the cities need to be around two times the size..,

the district's need to have a way of spiderwebbing into the other districts in it..,

while also being nice and liveable as they are now..,(in other words.., you can stay in an area, and not have to hop into another just to get to the next part of it..,)

the city needs main highways/freeways to have a sense of use.., due to the webbing..,

which should also make a reason to have a worth while public transport..,

if it's 3-4 times the above water landmass of V..,

it needs knowable local cities at certain ends of the map..,

(while it may be easy, and perfect to have them the same distance, or perfect polygon formation on the map.., it just depends how the land will be shaped..,

in this part..,

this will be the biggest problem to map.., how to make it worth the trip, and enjoyable..,)

and the last part, making the countryside, and rural area have more liveliness.., as in not only decorative and desolate..,

this simply could be made just as easy if you treat it like a city..,

only that city has more openness to art design(or simply put, a more not just a bland piece of land, but one you want to visit).., since you have alot more space to build on, decorate.., and hide things away..,

it would be nice if there was an actual hidden network under the ground..,

this has been mentioned much before..,(but people always say no, cause they want other things first.., but the land dictates the game..,)

[edit:underground tunnels, terrain, traversal, locations, larger, and can be used for moving from place go place, or from earth to deep water, etc etc..,]

as for the ocean, water parts of the map..,

the scenery is nice in V..,

but that's all it was..,

just like terrain.., above..,

it can be made to spike curiousity..,.while not everything will be filled with stuff..,

the ocean can be used more for telling plot, or hidden story, irrelevant, or parallel to the Main Story..,

hard to come up with stuff in s location, the more we stat away from it..,

t hats all i got for now..,

All I want is just a refined version of SA's map design philosophy. The scaling doesn't need to be super realistic but the size should be utilized wisely.

SanAndreas' map is a good example of that same size variation, 60% of the map is city..

Just imagine next-gen version of Vice City, with next-gen version of RAGE and next-gen consoles. It's hard to believe that this game and its world have been designed 18 years ago and for me it's still my favourite GTA. Not to mention that I'm only less than 10 years older than this game, time goes fast. And the moment when you recall that Vice City at the beginning was meant to be add-on only and it is still best GTA ever created for many people.

Every time I hear New Retro Wave there should really be a radio station for that genre specifically in the next GTA. (The first tune sounds like a loading theme of sorts)

At those proportions and with the increased draw distance, I think the map would have to be long and thin in order to get some distance between the urban areas so they'll feel like individual cities. Either that or have separate islands. I think a map would feel more natural with more countryside than city though.
