2019 sounds about right. If they are doing motion capture it probably means that they got new engine ready and the work is focused on the map, assets and animations. We might get the first trailer near the end of this year.

Interesting. Motion capture, from my understanding, usually comes at the later stages of game development, during a large production activity. The setting, story, characters, design, interaction between characters and whatever should be all set by now. Still, I cannot see GTA 6 releasing until 2020 at least and I will be surprised if it does just two years after RDR2 releases. In any case, I can see R* doing cross-gen again, that is, a base version and remaster later.

I'm thinking early 2020 at the earliest. Red Dead Online isn't even out until 2018, then its gotta be milked for another year and a half. I do think Rockstar is much more eager to churn out GTAs quicker, now that they've abandoned their other franchises. Edited July 27, 2017 by D T

With RDR2 coming out next year, I'd say 2020/2021 is more likely for GTA6.

Tim Neff has been at R* San Diego in February. However, this is most likely to do with RDR2 and not GTA VI. First of all I think mocap is done at Rockstar's NYC mocap studio in Rhode Island, secondly, well, San Diego are the RDR guys.

Where's the dialogue recorded? Because maybe he's going to act as a secondary or background character, as I think most main cutscenes are at least mostly done. I think now they're doing more secondary stuff, like side missions, NPC dialogue and animations, etc.

Everything is done in NYC afaik. It might be possible they do have a mocap studio in San Diego, after all it's the RAGE operations studio, but I'd wager it's for RDR2 and not GTA VI in that case. Surprisingly, it's backwards, missions and stuff are structured before mocap, which is why in some games you can find leftover text-to-speech files (no dialogue) or just characters in T-poses (no mocap/animation).

I still enjoyed my time with it but Rockstar can do way better
