9/11 with Charlie Sheen

I don't know what's worse, the fact that they're making a movie about 9/11 with a bunch of comedians and Charlie Sheen or that it's literally a generic stuck-in-an-elevator movie that doesn't need 9/11 anywhere in the plot to work.

This looks like an abomination. I don't even know what to make of it. What the hell were they thinking casting Charlie Sheen in a grimly dramatic real life event movie? Especially since he's a self-confessed 9/11 truther.

Don't get me wrong, I like Sheen as an actor in comedic roles and thought his mental breakdown a few years back was kind of entertaining, but the casting on this is offensively bad.

This looks so bad. Not only does it look mediocre, but why are they trying to cash in on an event like this? I could say the same about "Patriots Day", but at least it didn't look this bad.

I don't know, Charlie Sheen can pull off that middle-aged Wall-Street suit type. Whoopi doesn't look like some rasta-hippie and we know she can do drama and Luis Guzman is a pretty decent actor and very likable and we have Wood Harris AKA Avon Barksdale from The Wire.

Sheen can do drama just like we saw him in Platoon. I don't think people should be bound to stay in the genre their last few projects. John C. Reilly is a good example of this. When I first seen him in A River Wild or Gangs of New York, he was a scary and convincing bad guy and that's how a lot of people saw him until he started doing whacky comedies. We also have Albert Brooks in Drive, Steve Coogan in Philomena, MoNique in Precious even Bill Burr in Breaking Bad and they all did great doing drama.

I also think there's something sobering and tragic about casting Sheen as we know he's HIV positive now and we know how his wild antics led to his self-destruction. For me, there's empathy to drawn from an actor that had a big public falling from grace, playing a tragic role on a day were many people's lives got turned upside down.

I'm more concerned about the writers, directors and producers. I'm not sure they have one highly rated film between them. You never know, it could be OK or maybe not but I think it's too early to write-off just yet.

I can't watch those type of movies. I'm legit claustrophobic, and it gets me too wound up. Devil, 128 Hours, even Phone Booth to an extent.

I'm kind of interested in this, though. I like seeing movies with actors not normally seen in dramatic roles. I like to see how they hold up. Usually when it's someone who is normally in comedies. You can look back on some great comic actors who become great dramatic actors, or at least give great dramatic performances. Tom Hanks, for one. Before Philadelphia, he wasn't known as he is today. A great dramatic actor. He was a great comedic actor. He was a Bosom Buddy, he was in Bachelor Party, Money Pit and Joe vs the Volcano. He kind of showed his acting chops in Big. But then he does Philadelphia, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Apollo 13. Now I'm not saying Sheen will have a Hanks in the 90s style career renaissance. But you really never know what kind of performance an actor can give, when they do only one form of acting and switch to another.

Also, let's not forget Sheen in Platoon. This isn't exactly his first dramatic role.

That all said, I don't expect this to be his Philadelphia.

Charlie has been in dramatic movies in the past; he was actually pretty good.

Why should the "truther" thing matter? Regardless if the person is a truther or not, they still feel pretty horrified as much and mad at the whole event, just like most people.

The casting may be atrocious; so far, everyone in the cast all happened to have lost their flair a long time ago :/ Its a common thing among actors/actresses and movies/tv shows. Its inevitable.

if the crumbling towers don't kill you, the HIV virus will... :catspider:

but seriously this movie looks bad.

this would actually have been a better idea if they made the film in the more near-aftermath of 9/11 itself. but this is just weird. the reference to the attacks at this point serves no cinematic purpose. just trap some people in an elevator in an earthquake. or literally any other situation. as someone else mentioned, Charlie Sheen happens to be a 9/11 "truther," which generally makes this whole endeavor look pretty silly.

Looks quite cheesy and schmaltzy. The bad acting and dialogue on top of that make this a hard pass for me.

Man, this reminds me of that cartoon movie about the titanic.

Not the one with the rapping dog, but the one with the way to many mouses and...man, this sh*t:

This is indeed not the movie, but a review....but it is a great review though :D
