I want O.J to get his own sports show... he would probably be better than Skip Bayless.

Keep in mind he wasn't in for homocide or anything violent. He was in for stealing back some of his football memorable. Well...he might have had a gun and been aggressive in stealing back the stuff but still.

If he didn't have a gun on him when he tried to get his sh*t back he probably wouldn't have gone to jail for it.

Yup. Once you add a gun sh*t changes. My city has strict ass rules as well as lots of other cities when it comes to haVing a gun on you at the time of a crime...even if the gun is legal and licensed.

That's the one thing that he would not have gone to jail for is it wasn't for the gun he had.

Exactly.

It almost matches a hypothetical we use at work.

A 60 year old man kills his wife. He does it with his legally registered gun. He has no priors. His wife just nagged and nagged him for so long. He just couldn't take it anymore and snapped one night and killed her.

He's not a threat to himself or others. He's not a risk on the street. He's not really a killer, not really a criminal.

what he killed someone he is definitely both a killer and a criminal

I'm not using the literal definition of killer and criminal. More like the air quote versions of killer and criminal.

The hypothetical is used when discussing bail guidelines.

Wtf does this even mean.

It means that in today's world it can be a difficult decision when it comes sentencing someone. Some people who kill are very bad people and the resources to keep them in jail are well used, while other people who kill don't really need to have the same amount of resources dedicated to their punishment. You can't house every criminal.

Like elD was saying; He killed the person he wanted to and got it out of his system.

I watched some of the parole hearing on Sky News here in the U.K. earlier. His pal Bruce, who was also the victim(?) gave the parole board a load of bro love for OJ and said that he never had the gun, never laid a finger on him and wasn't the guy who was being aggressive. It was OJ's accomplice who was trying to act all gangsta with Bruce, yet OJ does nine years for the crime.

Weird.

Caught a bit of his parole hearing - his record as an exemplary inmate, his selfless efforts for his fellow inmates, the fact there is pretty much zero probability for reoffending, and the favourable words on behalf of the victims made for a pretty convincing case for granting him parole I must say. Can't say I was surprised when the board ruled in his favour.

This is a bit of a side note but I highly recommend the "OJ: Made in America" documentary made by ESPN. It won the Oscar last year for best documentary series and is damn good.

And poor Ron Goldman just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Like seriously that's just absolutely terrible luck.
