Recording online gameplay via nvidia shadow play?

I found a thread here from 2015 I don't want to necro bump (and it was singleplayer related, I guess) and I could've asked in the video section, but it's all PC and online related, I searched my fingers off but only found stuff from 2015/16 (youtube, reddit, steam etc.) so I thought a quick topic might be ok.

 

I'm confused, nvidia doesn't list GTA(O) in their shadow play feature inside their Experience suit. Rumors on the net say, they "might" have got a false ban trying to record online gameplay with diffrent tools/software (something with overlay - FPS counter - idk, I'm user). Some say shadow play works - some say it doesn't.

 

I just want to record online gameplay in 2k in a good quality. I run the game in borderless windowmode and use a GTX 1070 OC Strix grafics card. I also have terrabytes of free space, if this info helps.

 

I don't want to risk my main account just by trying before asking (after all that bansh*it in the close past R* made). Actual Experiences? Advises? Tips?

I don't know about recording with Shadowplay as my GPU doesn't support it, but i have recorded some footage on GTAO and some other games with XBox DVR app in Win10 and it also records the videos at 2K quality. Also you can set some setting about the recording quality and hotkeys. There's also OBS which is recommended by a lot of forum members, i have it but never used it as the xbox dvr does the job.

And about getting banned by having FPS counter or using recording software, i don't know anything about that as few of my friends that record anything in gtao with external software never got banned, neither did i.

Using it myself. Not banned - I think it's safe.

Both modes work/will be recorded if that's what you're after. But I'm using fullscreen mode. It's even recording my Dosbox stuff with no problems at all. With OBS I had some issues with that.

Yeah, if you're still on Win7, don't upgrade. I regret my decision on upgrading from 8.1, you can't disable WinDefender or Updates.

99% of the time I've been playing full screen. But there have been instances where I played windowed.

Shadowplay makes the game unstable.

 

Shadowplay on i can play 3-8 hours without any crashes.

Shadowplay off i can play 12-17 hours without any crashes.

 

I mean there is always the possiblity of a random zlib error or network errors. I only play full screen.

 

And by on i only mean activated with manual recording function videoproof off.

Videoproof makes the game stutter a bit you might wanna turn that off.

And don`t forget to use CCleaner before you start the game just let it always delete the temp files.

 

Maybe i try out the DVR App sounds interesting. Thought this only works with the Win10 Store Games.

You can disable all in Windows 10 just google what you wanna do there always is some sort of workaround. I disabled Windows Defender and the notification icon in the taskbar. But i keep my OS up to date. Some newer games need the latest version of Windows 10 like Forza Horizon 3.

I'm sitting on borderlesswindow to get 2k "snapmatics out of the editor by hiding the menu/cursor and pressing "Print-key" for screen capture and import into MSpaint lol. Otherwise the snaps are so tiny . And I'm to lazy to switch back to fullscreen after taking a snap, too.

 

I want to record some cutscenes which is not possible with the built-in capture provided by R* (at least on PC). And tbh, the core function of shadowplay - get and save the last 10min of happened gameplay - is pretty cool, too.

 

Edit: @mexicola9302: 3-8h is more than enough for me. Hell, my longest session was 13h once I got the game and was on holiday. Thank you for the tips/advice!

I prefer borderless windowed, because of my multi monitor setup. So the game stays up when i do things on the other.

I stay away from GeForce experience. When I do a fresh driver install I only install the graphics driver and PhysX.. it runs smoother IMO.

That's what it is right now, but the features seems pretty cool. I'm open for tested and approved 3rd party tools, too. But I imagine the shadowplay will cooperate perfectly with my graphicscard (and offers near 0% CPU load, too)

Performance loss is almost not noticeable. And my gc is not as potent as yours(970). It should run just fine. I had some other capture-programs before but nothing worked so smooth like shadowplay. Just don´t use the the auto-adjustments for games in gfx.

There are a bunch you could try... Fraps, Windows 10 game DVR, etc. The one guy in the other thread said it worked but not at 4K. 2K will prolly work I suppose? I doubt any of the well known recorders will get you banned. Who knows? Anything is possible.
