Damn, Xenia had been making consistent (but slow) progress on emulating the Xbox 360 version of RDR, still in early days...then RPCs3 comes along out of nowhere and blows it out of the water.

Not too sure about how soon "soon" is, though - emulators are finicky things :p

For a second I thought it was going to be officially released on PC.

I doubt it will ever happen sadly.

Well yes, it would do, because there are still going to be bugged shaders, textures, graphical glitches, significant performance problems etc. The emulator is still very much work in progress and is not anywhere near the level of other emulators such as those available for PS2, Wii, Wii U, NDS, etc. It takes time to get these things working. At the moment it's pretty much proof-of-concept.

Well it's gotten better, as in a lot of the graphical glitches have gotten better. But it's still at an unplayable 1-3 fps.

I think it should be a lot more playable sometime in 2018 because the emulator is making a lot of progress surprisingly. Just be sure to have a fast multicore CPU. This thing LOVES cores/threads. The more the better.

A standard port/remaster might be impossible, but I wonder if it's really not worth the expense to simply remake the game in a new engine. They have the game design and art assets and audio all ready to go, so if they remade it in the RDR2 engine it wouldn't cost as much as making the game from scratch. I hope for this, and that they don't add microtransactions or other nonsense.

What if Rockstar is already on the ball with it and are planning to release it with RDR2 PC as a mind-blowing surprise to it's fans? Wouldn't that be awesome!?

''soon be playable'' aahh...nope? I can barely play psp emulated games, because of the missing textures and lagging issues, ps3 games will be a hell to be emulated any time soon.

If that happens, they better release the first game too.

Sweet, 8 years later and we can now render a slideshow of RDR in realtime.

I get your scepticism, but I wouldn't be so sure. I mean sh*t, some games are already playable in 4K.

Besides: accuracy first, performance later.

It runs like crap at the moment, but yeah, it's just a matter of time.

I mean, it is obviously still a work in progress. And when you look at the video posted by OP and the one posted by Veroder it already is a big step forward.

Yup, the RPCS3 devs are doing incredible work here. I don't doubt it'll be running beautifully a year from now. It's just f*cking bananas that we had to wait nearly a decade to play this game on PC. We got pretty close to it with that GTA conversion a while back, but Rockstar had to ruin that too.

Mind blowing. Looks like a completely different game in 4k. Edited by D T

You have to keep in mind, sadly in this case, these emulators work best of games that are designed to make use of PlayStation specific hardware/methods, that's why their recent showcase of games having great progress was all PS3 Exclusive titles. To sum it up, the better a game ran on PS3, the easier it will be to emulate here now, Rockstar Games were NOT PS3 focused under these builds of RAGE, they were Xbox 360 and then ported to other platforms, that only changed from Max Payne 3 onwards, but GTA IV, MCLA, EFLC and RDR all ran worse and at a lower resolution on PlayStation 3. Since the engines at that point still have all this coding baggage and bullsh*t tricks to just get it to work in a passable manner on PS3 means emulating it now is ALSO going to emulate that baggage which means it's more difficult to get running in a stable condition.

I have no doubt the emulators will nail this down in given time but for now, I'd honestly say Rockstar Games titles would most likely be one of the last sets to be checked off as fully playable and compatible wise.

There is no reason, why they shouldn't release RDR2 on PC. I'm sure it will come out eventually in the year 2020.
