It was a letdown compared to San Andreas as well. Gameplay wasn't improved if you actually pay attention to the details of it.

It was a letdown in comparison to any GTA to be honest. I was never fed up with any other game from the series, so fast as it happened with V, which lasted for two playthroughs.

Yeah, don't get me wrong because I really like GTA V, it's a beautiful and alive game but when it comes to story, characters and tiny details it was a step back compared to IV. It's impressive how there are so many plotholes in V's story, annoying characters and things that made no sense.

GTA IV was better for its time IMO being the first of the HD era and utilising what it had. Whilst GTA V undeniably is a good game in its own right and fixes some annoyances from GTA IV like a lack of customisation and making money more useful it's still never felt as focused as GTA IV whether it's the map, side missions, story, characters etc.

The shameful bias to self promoting GTAO further dents GTA V's potential also. I've said it so many times over the last three years, but whenever I play GTA V I don't feel like I'm playing a game R* truly wanted to make. It's more like a corporate cash grab.

Even with its flaws GTA IV remains as one of R*'s last masterpieces of gameplay and story ingenuity. I just don't don't feel that way about GTA V. It's just a decent/good game.

Nothing great or special.

Yes, it could be much better but they focused online sh*t...and some features like vigilante, gang wars, heist as a side activity should have been in the game.

Oh my god, you played it twice? I didn't feel like playing it even once

I am thinking of deleting the game, should I?

Absolutely.

It honestly makes me laugh when people say the physics were improved in GTA V.

The bottom video perfectly illustrates how watered down they really are. Just watch how enemies react to being shot in GTA V.

Their body movements are stiff and rigid like they're barely reacting yet in GTA IV they behave like they're actually being shot.

I think it was a letdown in comparison to any video game out there. I've played stuff like Pro Skater 5, Ride to Hell, and Plumbers Don't Wear Ties and I tell you.. Those games are miles ahead better than V.

It's actually worse than the sh*t Osho used to pull because atleast he had the balls to be upfront instead of littering his posts with sarcasm. It's getting old pal.

While it did regress in a few but key areas, most notably the ragdoll physics for example, overall I wouldn't necessarily call it a letdown tbh. I think both V and IV were really good for what they were, IV was a very focused and a strong story that dissected the American dream, V was a light hearted action packed caper that was kind of a throwback to the 3D era. IV was about providing a refined GTA experience, V tried to fit in something for everybody and bring in more fans.

IV and V are more or less equal for me tbh, but then I'm a sucker for heist themed stuff so I probably like V more than most haha. It's just that IV+EFLC makes it the complete package whereas with V it's a shame Online drained all the focus and so we may never know what those adventures the V trio were supposed to have or see the opening of the casino etc

It was like if Grand Theft Auto peaked in V and Rockstar couldn't push the technology any further to introduce a single 'wow' factor at least. Refined graphics and better image quality are nothing but expected, but there was no innovation in other aspects such as pedestrian AI and simulation, physics and animations. In fact, the last two were toned down and didn't even live up to the standards that IV established. The jump from the simple worlds of III era, which ended with San Andreas, to a more complex simulation of a metropolis in IV was a true innovation and a worthy achievement. Should I say that V was a letdown in comparison because R* raised the standards too much even to themselves? They really pushed it in technology with IV that V didn't know on what aspects to focus and they only had to fill it with content, a badly written story and generally tried to redo 2004's San Andreas, only then to move everything to a shared Online world with paywalls everywhere you go.

This topic is pretty much beating a dead horse at this point. To be honest I hated GTA V when I got it in 2013. But the more I played it the more I loved it and eventually got it for PC. There are great things and bad things about both games. Id say its really well balanced.

It wouldn't really be much fun if the games were built exactly the same because you wouldn't get those certain feels when you return years later to play the old titles :p

My copy of the game is collecting dust at an ex girlfriend's house. That's how much of a let down it was for me.

No.

I like both stories and cast of characters. Both have their good, bad, and disappointments. However which game may be ones favorite i believe 5 is too much of an improvement in many ways to 4 to be considered a letdown to 4.

After playing 5 on PS3 i had no desire to go back to 4 on my PS3 with the blurry graphics, slidey car handling, rain for ever weather, going back to safe house to save game, and no car customizing to list a few reasons.

Gta 4 is amazing accept this...And graphics are great for it is time, car handling is also good I guess, what do you mean?, so this is in every gta game, you need to go safehouse to save game......
