^ that's the thing.

From a PR perspective I think they'd be better admitting they f*cked up, apologies and fix it. I think people would trust them more - knowing that if you did accidentally get swept up in a banwave, that they'd fix it. If they say nothing, you wonder if you'll get done one day and they'll do diddly about it.

Auto-banning is crazy though, as this, and the 2017 problem shows.

I get there's a cheater problem, but a more sensible thing would be to auto-kick those registering out of online - not ban them. Players kicked may lose and afternoon of gaming, but then that can be sorted out with a ticket, or developers reviewing the situation and realising if a load of players are being booted out something has gone wrong. Bans and character resets should only be taking place after a manual review in the cases where it is 100% certain the account has been cheating. Manually reviewing every player would be expensive, but as a safe-guard to checking what the detection algorithms report it shouldn't be prohibitive (if their algorithm isn't blaming everyone who logs on).

I totally understand the cheater situation is hideous and R* seems to notice and are trying ways to tackle the problem... I even state my sympathy to this at my request... But what triggered me is the way they handle the ban appeal situation... Just auto-replying with same bs answer which offers no clear explanation of the banning and close the file... Without EVEN a slight effort it seems to scan through the case is just simply disrespectful to customers...

I don't think there is any serious connection between the auto-ban system and actual technical support. The whole idea that bans are final is quite lucrative for a company, you can save a lot of resources by cutting the human interaction in this matter.

When the first quantum computer gains intelligence and decides to judge Rockstars morals.. and auto ban their lives.. well that will be justice

Welp... if that's the case, what's the point of the support anyway? I have actually dealt with them regarding to a connectivity issue too... All they (real people this time) gave me are same cut & paste answers.. One person told me that they would send the issue to higher ups, which the so called senior asked me to do the same things (same answer, even same link) as attempt to solve the problem..

It truly is shameful. I was angry and disappointed in R* when they took my legit 600k$ couple of months ago during an automated cleanup, and closed my support ticket without even answering... But I guess I should consider myself lucky, because after all, my character wasn't deleted and my account suspended without any reason. If such thing took place, I sure would never buy a R* title ever again, the same way I don't buy anything even slightly related to 2k Games.

R* needs to take this seriously - it's not the first time they've messed up, and innocent players suffer because of their incompetence. Not addressing the issue and apologizing is literally the worst PR move they could take - they're like EA, shutting themselves from the community of players and ignoring anything regarding their products. EA even deleted contact emails and now offer help via phone - F that.

I guess the only way to show them something is to cancel RDR2's preorders. If they don't want to talk about what's happened, then what's the point of giving them another credit of trust and ordering a game we know very little about?

I reckon they will do exactly what they did last time this happened. They will fix the problem and over the next couple of days will go trawling through all the bans and lift those they "deem" wrong. The unbanned will have their accounts fully restored ..... well almost fully restored don't expect to get your money back because Rockstar will still think you did something iffy cos you know "reasons". They won't even acknowledge this complete and utter f*ck up and things will go back to normal till next time.

Really the incompetence of this company is beyond belief, the way they are treating their customers is disgusting. To have a game like this and have no community liaison and then to rely 1000% on an auto banning script with a draconian policy of "one strike and you are f*cked" is lazy, cheap and a total insult to it's customers. But then Rockstar has always had a special type of contempt it likes to apply to the PC and PC gamers.

And yet zeldick is still counting the money naked with a fur jacket covering his dick and smoking a cigar. He don't care and neither does take 2. For every banned player a 100 new players come each day and the cycle repeats now if it was dying then it would be a different story

Don't cheat, Don't get banned

It might be a little too hard for ps4 players since that's the majority of gta cheaters

I don't cheat and I got banned. Go troll somewhere else.

You mean "you didn't do nuff'in and got banned for no reason?"

If the share prices on T2 is going down I think that at least makes it a possibility that the share holders demand something to be done but..

GTA being one of the most lucrative Games in history? Check.

GTA having one of the worst cheater problems of any triple A game? Check.

Complete lackluster and unpersonal support? Check.

No Communication whatsoever with the Community? Check.

Never admitting to problems? Check.

Really now, this major douchebaggery on the Level of other publishers/devs who recieve major backlash for every little fart they let slip.

Even with that "little OpenIV modding drama" Rockstar/Take2 still have not yet gotten the sh*tstorm they deserve for once.

How GTA Online is taken care of after making (and still making) so much is simply insulting.

What is banning good for anyway in this game except for screwing players?

Because you still Encounter a plethora of cheaters left and right. They were back just ONE DAY after the update dropped. It's hilariously sad.

It seems unlikely this news would be in the wider public domain to the point where investors would be selling. But if it is, then that's a good thing. My hunch is though something else is behind the share price movement.

On another note I clocked up 4 hours of heists and freemode time today, no ban, hopefully the tunables update has removed what ever was causing the problem. That steal leaves the matter of them sorting out the people who were unfairly banned in the last few days.

The answer is simple: You can't!

You basicly always have to fear that your progress/a part of you progress gets reset by rockstar or modified by a scriptkid. Solo public/crew public and invite only are basicly the only ways to have atleast some safety.

To be fair whilst this issue is affecting a lot of people (don't want to take away from the enormity of the f*ck up Rockstar just did) in reality the vast majority of PC gamers remain unaffected by this. I haven't been banned myself nor have most of my friends. It seems this ban is centered around the new DLC for some reason. I personally thought the new DLC was an absolute pile of utter sh*te and haven't touched the sh*tty races or the sh*tty cars, which probably protected my account.

But you are correct it does throw a shadow over GTA online on the PC. Hell half the time I expect to fire the game up and get the message "you have been banned" not because I did anything wrong but because Rockstar are incompetent morons. Not much I can do about it so I don't dwell on it.

This is something I can never get my head around. How do R* get away with how they treat the GTAO fanbase?

If the same happened in an EA game there would be a huge online sh*tstorm.

But for some reason R* can ban hundreds, maybe thousands of legitimate players, reset their game progress and get away with silently working at a fix in the background.

Is it that GTAO has grown into such a beast that R* simply don't need to care, safe in the knowledge that the masses will still play and spend regardless?

Are these bans happening only on PC? Or are console players also being affected?

I am a victim of this ban. I was just playing the game freeroaming with a friend now I am banned until April 22nd. My 28 character with nearly a million dollars is going to be erased too. This is pretty lame.

I still remember when quite some bank accounts were sweeped before Smugglers Run dropped. That even reached some gaming news outlets, but nothing ever happened afterwards either. A tiny amount of players did say they got money back, but the vast majority never saw anythign in return. And the must've noticed the influx of requests and reports, because they switched off their support hotline a few days after the debacle started.

What a nice way to handle one of the biggest online hits.
