MK II upgrade worth it?

Yes. In my opinion they're worth it. Each weapon gets more damage. The Combat MG becomes very easy to shoot once you upgrade it to MK II.

So they get more damage just by upgrading them? You don't need the special munitions to get more damage?

Yup, just by upgrading them you get more damage. You don't need the special ammo to get more damage.

If you upgrade the SMG you can start using it when you're riding motorcycles (excluding the Oppressor). For someone like me who loves using motorcycles it's a great perk because of the decent amount of bullets the SMG has in each magazine (60 bullets).

They also get better range.

Try MKII Combat MG+special ammo*+BST, it can shred player cars in a couple of seconds.

*perforating or something

Combat MG Mk 2 = best "rifle" for players on console/PC playing in aim assisted lobbies.

It has a better TTK than all the rifles, it's laser accurate if you burst, it decimates players and NPCs.

Basically the discussion over which rifle is better, is moot, because the upgraded Combat MG shreks them all.

Why not use the Compact Rifle with a 100 round magazine in that case? It also deals a lot more damage in comparison.

They also get better range.

No they don't.

wow, I didn't know that. I've never bought it, used it or read about it. I see now that the Compact Rifle was added to the game when I was in a super long hiatus from GTA online. Buying it is the 1st thing I'll do tomorrow :D

Better go back and check the game's files, considering that's the only thing relevant. Edit - The comment I referred to was that "Mk2 weapons have increased range". They don't. Only when you apply the heavy barrel upgrade do they get better range. But honestly the bars in the HUD are mostly irrelevant. (Edit 2) For example - if you equip a suppressor, it'll tell you a few things are being decreased - like damage and range, right? Nah, the only thing a suppressor has ever done since day one is reduce the sound of the gun, making enemies less likely to hear you at the same distance.

Only Cons i can think of when upgrading to MK2 weapons is losing the drum mags and the financial requirement for everything. The SMG, Assault Rifle and Carbine become the second best performing in their classes, only beaten by the Compact Rifle and Machine Pistol.

There's no reason to not upgrade the Heavy Sniper unless you like the look of the original, can put an extended mag and suppressor on it.

Definitely

The gun itself becomes more powerful regardless of whether you use special ammo or not (the 'upgrade' to MKII accounts for that alone)

Plus you can change the look of it and tinker with various parts of the exterior which is always a cool thing

So... Basically, what you're saying is that a fully upgraded Mk2 weapon has a greater range than a fully upgraded Mk1 weapon. Which is kind of a backpedal-y way of conceding that Mk2 weapons are capable of better range than Mk1 weapons. :/

I'm not seeing it on the sniper it seems to have the same range.

Probably, but then it doesn't really matter at longer ranges anyway considering there'll always be a better automatic weapon for those sort of things (the Assault SMG).

Definitely, they get a slight damage upgrade along with all the modifications that open up once they are upgraded.

All I know is that even without headshots, my MG Mk2, with normal ammo, absolutely SHREDS players.

Same, that thing is deadly. I love it.

Yeah with FMJ rounds, the Combat MG Mk.2 will set a car on fire in 11 shots, when shooting at the engine bay from a short range (47.5 metres or less).

To me, it would be worth it for the wealth of customization options now available for each, even if they didn't do any extra damage. The fact that they do, and can be customized to do even MORE damage, makes it a no-brainer in my book. Maybe if we're lucky we'll see MkII variants in other categories--a MkII Assault Shotgun, MkII Grenade Launcher or a MkII throwable would be pretty sweet.
