Voodoo
Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling Alison Brie stars as Ruth Wilder, an out-of-work actress living in Los Angeles in the '80s. Wilder finds an unexpected chance at stardom: enter the glitter and spandex-laden world of women's wrestling, where she must work alongside 12 other Hollywood misfits. Marc Maron plays the role of Sam Sylvia, a washed-up director of "B" movies who tries to lead the group of women to fame. The series is created by Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive, who serve as executive producers with Jenji Kohan and Tara Herrmann. Anyone else watching this? I'm three eps in and it's pretty good. I f*cking love me some Alison Brie and Marc Maron is great too. I'm also really digging the 80's theme. Voodoo
Agreed. We rolled through the rest of the season last night and it seemed like leotards riding up asses was definitely a running theme of the show. Maron is perfect for his role and Brie was p damned hilarious while doing her Soviet bit. Some of the drama seemed a little tired but overall, I found the show pretty entertaining. Slynke
Yea, I almost fell off after the first few episodes. The drama started to get a bit stale, but once they finally got around to the wrastling, things seemed to pick back up. Rolled through the entire season last night as well, enjoyed it overall. That song was pretty terrible though. And everyone running into the ring singing and dancing while the crowd abruptly changes from angry to happy.. just terrible lol "Glow, glow, that's the name.." darthYENIK
Jesus Christ. "Womb goof." Edit: halfway through, and I love it. The characters are fun, and the characters' characters are even more fun. Alison Brie gives a magnetic performance. Maron seems to just be playing himself, which isn't a bad thing. The two girls who play the old lady wrestlers are f*cking phenomenal. And as someone from Southern California, I laughed when Debbie seemed disgusted by the idea of staying in a hotel (or what she thought was going to be one) in Van Nuys. Candy_Licker
Watched the pilot, looks like easy fun. 80s visuals and girls in leotards, what's not to like? The director reminds me of the porn film director from Vice City who's obsessed with giant sharks. Is this The Guy?
Lol womb goof. Favorite character is a toss up between Sam and Ruth Dont know if The spoiler is really needed but.. I f*cking lol'd at the part where Sam got all coked out with the band and revealed the plot to the movie he's been working on for the last 10+ years. The whole reason he was even doing the women's wrestling show. Candy_Licker
On a related note, did anybody check out Fire Pro Wrestling World which hit Steam on Early Acess yesterday? 94% positive so far, looks like a perfect complimentary if you now have the wrestling fever, and it's supposed to be super mod friendly. darthYENIK
Watching it again. God the characters are great, and the cast nails it. I have no idea why this show isn't a huge Netflix hit like OITNB. Oh well, I love it. Everyone I know who has seen it has loved it. I think people don't realize it is what it is when they see the promo. darthYENIK
New season is out. Two episodes in and they are picking up where they left off. I just hope they can continue to make the supporting characters interesting. That’s a big hurdle for shows with large casts. Supporting characters become harder to develop as time goes on. They tend to stagnate under the leads. edit: I’m up to the episode that is a full on episode of GLOW the show within the show. Like it so far. edit 2: I finished it. Maybe not as good as the first season, and my fear of characters not developing as much were right. But it wasn’t bad. They’re still good characters. Voodoo
We're about halfway through right now and while it's true that they haven't gone too deeply into each of the character's stories, it's still a lot of fun to watch. I think it would need hour long eps to really do that properly. The show is best experienced without placing too many expectations on it, IMO. It's a nice, light weekend binge. darthYENIK
darthYENIK
Yeah, don’t get me wrong. It’s fun as hell. Especially since they kind of really hit hard on the wrestling and show within the show, and characters playing characters, more so than just the last episode of the first season. Not as strong as the first season, but not by much. I loved that season so much the odds weren’t in the favor of a better second season.

darthYENIK
What’s weird about that actress is that she is in two Netflix shows that came out weeks from each other and in both shows her name is Rosalie.
Lonely-Martin
'This is awesome' 'this is awesome' But it genuinely is good fun, I love this show. Better than Orange for me, though as a lifelong wrestling fan it was always in with a chance of me loving it. The cast seems to be really getting into the wrestling parts too which is great to see considering the average crap a wrestling fan can get growing up, ha-ha. Good times! Spoiler That's a very handy feature for me, anyway. Spoiler ahead. I found the casting couch scene in series 2 to be a bit silly/forced. Don't get me wrong, full support to the real life issues some are coming forward with. I just felt it was typical Jenji and it just didn't work for me as a plotline after watching Orange and even Weeds. Feels like she does hate men and looks for a way to take a shot, that or I missed something, lol. (Not that some men don't deserve a bashing).
