Tampa Armor

So I fast tracked the armor for my Tampa, and I guess its purely cosmetic?

Does it do anything? It's kinda stupid that they would have that a part of research, meanwhile on my Half Track I already get the option to add better armored windows which makes it harder to get shot out of. I hope it's not just a joke.

Unfortunately, the armor additions do nothing when it comes to explosives; Tampa takes one explosion to blow up no matter what. When it comes to bullets I would assume the armor upgrades increase resistance, although if not then these 'armor' upgrades are purely cosmetic. Just discovered the Tampa is weak to bullets with the default purchase, then increases resistance with every armor upgrade. However, there will be a weak spot on the passenger side.

But you can still get shot through the windows?

Is this thing even worth buying? The firepower is nice but kinda worthless if one rocket out of the sky kills you

The rockets fire quickly, the dual minigun shreds aircraft and the proximity mines are great for getting people off your ass. Is it worth buying? In my opinion, only the Oppressor is more useful.

Lovely in missions.

It had to be weak against something. If the Tampa could take 3-4 rocket hits in addition to being nearly bulletproof it'd be almost unstoppable.

Does the armor work well against bullets at least? On par with the Karuma or at least close? Better than the "bullet proof" glass on other armored vehicles I would guess

For missions that would be amazing if so. ACR is way too slow for that

Sorry could put this in the vehicles thread but since we're on the topic of Tampa specific armor what they heck...

I have only used it in few supply run missions and hostile takeover at merryweather docks.

I pretty much just stayed in my tampa and killed them all with dual miniguns. If they get lucky you might have to eat a snack.

I say the armor is pretty good for missions use.

Just have to make sure that they can't shoot trough the co-driver window, because it's unarmored.

I used my full-armored Tampa and got hit by quite a few NPC bullets from front and rear.

Didn't kill me but health dropped in the red before I could start pounding snacks. The armor does help, but it's more cosmetic than effective.

Seems like if the staff researched it, it should at least be as good as the Duke o' Death or even the Halftrack's armor.

I don't know if the varying levels of plate armor have different efficacy.

Pumpkin Zone

The unarmored passenger side window is so that your passengers can actually do somethng, i.e. throw sticky bombs and shoot drive-by weapons.

If it was armored, there would be no reason to ever have someone drive with you.

As others have stated, it needed some weakness. The firepower of the dual miniguns alone make the vehicle worth it for vs. AI missions, and even against unsuspecting users if you know what you're doing.

i honestly think having 0 armor it fair since you do have 4 pretty op weapons on it. having it bullet proof or explosive proof would be just ridiculous. usually i would be against something like this but for once im actually on rockstars side with this on.

HopalongCasidy

There are two unarmored spots, the passenger window and the rear drivers side "backseat" window. The front has significant gaps so you can't go full lazy kuruma without becoming swiss queso.

From behind you're virtually bulletproof, if you can keep npcs at bay with a dual minigun, which is not hard even if you're spraying and praying. The weapon is most effective when used while moving, utilizing the camera physics which seperate this car game from most of the rest.

So, is it proven that the heavy hood armor is just for looks?

I changed it back to normal over a week ago, the heavy is too ugly.

Havent noticed any difference, and I don't know how I would.

It's not like the npc's are standing around shooting at your hood.

The Weaponized Tampa looks pretty sleek without the guard bars and armor plates (with the turret, mortar and missiles)

I was extremely disappointed when I noticed that all of the additional lights including those on the heavy armor hood were non-functional and purely decorative cosmetics.

There are SO MANY vehicles which would be visually improved with functional light bars (Dubsta) & fog lights. Maybe someday R* will surprise us and fix some of those shortcomings or eventually even add a show/hide popup minigun animation to the JB 700.
