Explosive Rounds Effective Range

So, I fast tracked my way thru the research unlocks to get my hands on this explosive ammo. It was my 38th unlock, it was my friends 22nd unlock but thats another story. I try out the ammo on my hydra and was pleased to see the 2 shot explosion.

 

Fast forward to today where I want to test it out in action, I jump sessions till I find some jet griefers and instantly start baiting them. I go up into the mountains an start spamming their inbox with not so nice names and how they aren't worth the extra soft toilet paper they wipe their ass with.

 

Anyway I see the first jet making its way to me in passive no less, once this asshat gets a low flyover and a look-a-who of where I'm at he comes out of passive. I shot off a homing launcher to set him into a predictable pattern, I switch to the "super sniper" miss a few and what I viewed as landing a few. He comes in for his first non passive cannon pass and misses thanks to the terrain I placed myself in. Eventually he started become less cautious and more agro once he found himself not getting the free kills he wanted, so he started flying lower, and on his way back up and about 200 yards out I nailed one of his wings, and he went passive once he realized the severe damage his jet just took.

 

The next session I got into with a jet griefer, I had a similar experience, only this pilot wasn't some novice jerfoff. so i'm back on a mountain when he is coming over and I start shooting off my explosive ammo, again it's as if I'm not hitting it even tho i'm seeing that I am, this range is beyond 500 yards out. He dives in and gets some kills, so i switch to the new combat MG with Armour piercing rounds and drop BST. He flys over misses his mark and I lock on with the MG dumping close to 50 rounds into the jet during it's missed pass. This play caused severe damage to the jet causing the engine to stall and the pilot bailing out. I found the latter method much more effective.

 

So based on my experience, the explosive ammo has an effective range inside of 500 yards or less. granted I've only tested this out on about 5 enemy jets in total, but in all cases "hits" were ineffective beyond 500 yards give or take.

 

On to discussion: Was I experiencing a bug or lag over the course of 3 days and several sessions not registering hits? Has anyone else had similar or differing experiences?

 

TL/DR

Using the explosive sniper I found damage was not received at long distances, beyond 500 yards on an enemy jet.

This is correct, at long distances it doesn't work, it simply explodes before reaching the destination.. but at close range.. man.. it just obliterates any hydra in 2 shots, it's awesome.

Even more if you have the infrared scope.. great for the night.

Think it's probably just lag. Sometimes it'll hit on your screen, but not on his, etc.

 

At any rate I think it's more than effective enough against jets and other aircraft.

I shot a tail rotor off a Savage going over the Vinewood sign from Lombank. It's lag + you have to lead more than you'd think, in my experience.
