If GTA V would have one character only. Who would it suit best?

Rockstar's Greed

I see some Saints Row bashing. Saints Row and Saints Row 2 were the best in the series. Saints Row 1 and 2 easily were not jokes.

So what is character to you? Is it wanting to escape a criminal life, but goes around killing people anyway and then trying to justify their actions? That's not character. That's hypocrisy.

If the character is going to commit criminal activities then they need to accept that they're the bad guy and not try to justify their actions with a bunch of "I'm this way because xxx did xxx and made xxx happen that forced me to xxx because xxx, but deep down I'm really the good guy and didn't deserve it despite killing and robbing a bunch of people!" And that character template of put all the blame on someone/something else passive-aggressive victim card is all Rockstar has given us since San Andreas. It's a tired repetitive formula of whiny versus whimsy and usually whiny wins.

Perfect way to describe Niko Bellic

And Michael de Santa.

Hell, even Dr. Friendlander says that.

Neither of them. How about a new protagonist that players can create. One that isn't a whiny over-entitled cliche-ridden meme?

There is a GTA game that has the protagonist you're looking for, it's called GTA Online.

Yes, it certainly is!

But fair is fair.

So even though I generally will take every opportunity I can to bash IV because I detest the game, I have to defend the Niko character here, despite throwing up in my mouth a little. lol The fact is that Niko, at least from the standpoint of a "likeable sociopath" who is an utterly f*cked up and morally ambiguous criminal, is no different than any other GTA protagonist. As I said in another thread about this exact topic of criminals Rockstar is deftly able to add sympathy from the player to, this is part-and-parcel to the GTA formula.

Take utterly distasteful lunatics and find a way to humanize them in such a way that the players actually like them.

Neat trick, to be honest. I think that is what you are saying, too, right?

Yes

And Niko are likeable at some sort (despite I hate him), and I want to admit it sometimes, but I never did it because of these butthurt IV fanboys still talk sh*t about V

No it doesn't. Sure, I wanted a protagonist I can create, but I also want them to talk and comment on things in a rational manner, not do a Niko Bellic or Michael Townley and whine about everything under the sun. I also want a protagonist that can be expanded upon. The leveling system in Online doesn't offer that, and the stats improvement are a complete joke as they ultimately have very minor effects on every current and future game action and decision.

It's not easy to create a fully-customizable dynamic protag, sure, but it isn't impossible.
