Any reliable way to make a solo public session on Xbox One?

Yes, as the thread title says. Is there any reliable and well working method to make a public session solo on Xbox One? MTU method is not an option because I can't change it on Xbox One nor in my router settings. I've read through tons of posts and haven't been able to find a way that works well for Xbox One. Please help :)

Did you try the wifi/ethernet trick?

Run on wifi

Plug in ethernet when you want to split

The end

Not sure if still works. I was a heavy playlist user so have same question as you.

Is that, plug the Ethernet cable in whilst in a session?

Yep

Never tried it myself but read it often. The xbox will switch from WiFi to ethernet, and that switch is long enough to lag you out. Or should be?

I've been using a physical lag switch on my Xbox1 for over a year. It works every time. I just used it today. Your xbox needs to be isolated from your router via a hub, other wise it just drops you from live as soon as the Ethernet cable is unhooked. The hub must fool Live that there is still a device connected in the time needed to lag. My lag switch is operated with my foot just like a guitar pedal. I built it out of parts used to make your own guitar pedals. I press it and count about 13 seconds and release. Any longer and it will drop you out of the session to single player.

Doesn't seem to be very easy to find a good way, at least for Xbox One.

If everybody who played gta online was a kind and empathetic human being we would not even have to try to make solo public session and everyone would make money without a problem in free roam and it would be a win win for everybody. But no, of course most humans aren't smart enough to realize that, they prefer do be dumb and make everything just harder for themselves and others by their sh*tty evil deeds. As a matter of fact, if every person on this planet was kind and sensible enough, this world and life in general would be so much better and we all would live in harmony together. But what can I say...

Hypothetically speaking, someone other than me might suggest UDP Unicorn. Not me though.

Stop raping your hardware with lagswitches and UDP flood, it's moronic at best and stop sharing these malicious advice. It just means you know nothing about networking. Use your router firewall to block ports and enjoy solo sessions without playlists, switches and forget about joining random. Downside: you're truly solo and won't be able to join anything too.

Here is R* published list of ports required for Online to function. DO NOT BLOCK TCP ports 80 and 443, if you don't know why just trust me: don't. You will be 99.9% happy with blocking 6672 both IN and OUT , try it first. If it's not working, block UDP ports from the list completely. Voila, you're golden.

Why use firewall?

  1. It's elegant and flexible, some router firmwares can allow you to even schedule rules application. With a bit of creativity it's even possible to configure it the way ETH1 port is firewalled for solo and ETH2 is not and simply switching cable to your console from one port to another will do the trick. Overall it's easy as hell, just RTFM;
  2. It's not interfering with anything else on the network;
  3. It's beyond moronic to DOS your own network if you have other options. It's like setting your kitchen on fire to get rid of flies;

There are guides on the internet on how to do it, but it's pretty straightforward

  1. Identify your router model and manufacturer. Either google the manual or go to manufacturer support page and find it there;
  2. Fins out how to backup your router settings and back it up. If you're not network proficient, it will save you from any troubles in the future;
  3. Go to firewall section and find out how to use it. Add rules for both IN and out directions for any IP addresses1, select block and protocol UDP;
  4. You don't need to restart the game, just find the new session. Your router may require a reboot to apply these settings, don't worry;
  5. If it works, you can just go straight to online from loading screen and you will be put in solo.

1 Unless you have several consoles and want to separate them in Online functionality (ex. your brother is a penis and you want him to suffer in public)

If I can log into my router from my phone's web browser and easily turn this on and off then this might be the perfect solution.

This works like a charm for me. Disconnect the broadband for 5 seconds then reconnect.

Every time I try that, it just signs me out of live

I had some of that yesterday, but think stupid Comcast was working on a line nearby my house, as I was being kicked even when I tried to reboot and go only hardwired. The day before it worked perfectly multiple times.

That only depends on how smart your phone is. On screenshot below (ASUS RT-AC68U stock firmware) you can clearly see that interface is accessible via Chrome in Android and scheduling is present in firmware like I said. I believe anything with a web browser will do.

I have an increased respect for you Heisenberg. This is some of the best advice regarding the topic on this forum. Very well said.

However before someone else runs up against this I thought I might identify a situation where some folks might not be able to do this.

For example: Most areas have regional cable providers with limited alternatives to choose from. Some of those Cable providers have worked out contracts with the device manufacturers to only deal directly with them (the cable provider) for technical support.

One such example is Comcast. They are prominent in the Western U.S. For their residential customers they currently use all Arris hardware. Comcast has then neutered the interface on the device to disallow the customer from accessing logging and most of the control options for the device (no TCP protocol control, limited firewall port access, etc).

In the event you have an ISP that locks down your cable router you won't be able to do this method.

Oh no, you really should have asked that along time ago cause there was a reliable sure fire way using the Playlist method (there are YouTube video's). But that has now been patched. There is no way now except doing what other people are suggesting regarding your router and such.

Even changing the date and time on PS4 has been patched, and i didn't think that was possible cause its done outside the game.

Sorry but I'm not very good when it comes to stuff like that haha. Am I supposed to disable the firewall? I can see three categories in the menu when I log in to my router settings and those three relevant categories are "Port Filtering", "Port Forwarding" and "Port Triggering". Which one of these three categories do I use to block ports? Haha, I feel clueless

^ On the contrary, my friend. You're supposed to enable firewall and add a custom rule. What kind of router are you using? If you provide exact model I can help you.

I'm unsure how to create a custom rule, but there are similar criteria under the client filters tab (allow/deny certain ports for certain IPs). Is that the same thing?

Hey Heiseberg, there's another thread where a guy is looking for your assistance with a sky router. I suggested he reach out to you.

There is a way without any internet interference.

The 'Playlist method' was patched but can still work with a friend's help.

The playlist method now is as follows. You'll need your friend to be in single player ready to jump on your invite instantly :

1. Create a playlist with one short race in it. I made a race for mine to respawn at my coke business.

2. Be in a public session to begin this.

3. Launch the playlist, play & complete the race.

4. After the race, like/dislike the job then on the next options press X to restart (says at the bottom of the screen).

5. You'll get a winning screen & a 30 second countdown.

6. Your character when it comes out of the clouds will show on foot in a lobby (public,1) for just a few seconds before the lobby pops up to replay the race.

It's at this stage you need to invite your friend and he/she accept. You have a few seconds so be ready after the 30 second countdown step.

7. When your friend joins the race lobby, he/she should then quit into a public of 2 (you & the friend)

8. If it didn't work, the invite wasn't accepted quickly enough. Simply ask them to go back to SP & start the race again (take it from step 3).

It works! Once they confirm the session of 2, you can quit but you will go to a populated lobby. Join your friend from there. It takes about 5 minutes with a short 1 lap race.

I just go to my Xbox settings while online, turn wifi off and back on, reload into online and 9/10 times I'm alone. Much easier than going through and messing around with the router.

All of this to be alone in a public lobby? I take it XBOX 1 doesn't have a setting to adjust the MTU like on the PS4 :D

I'll try that. Thanks!

Edit: I do that and it just disconnect me from Xbox live and send me to single player. When I then try to go back to gta online, it says you were signed of Xbox live and I can't connect to gta online. What am I doing wrong?

I think it should work the same, but you need to set up static IP on your Xbox console first to make it work if there is no option to lock-unlock for any IP address.

Well, I googled your router manual and the firewall description provided was incomplete (screenshot is not illustrative enough and there is no advanced description how to use FW). However, there is an hypothesis that you may set firewall status in a respective section to custom and that list on the right will become active. There is a possibility, nevertheless, that your device is not smart enough to do that. It's listed as a "Wireless Voice Gateway" by the way.

My tips are based on my biased assumption that people are using Netgear, Asus, TP-Link, Linksys, Cisco or Zyxel. It's even better if your router supports WRT-based firmware.

When I did it, it didnt sign me out. I do it real quick from on to off to back on. Maybe if it signed you out, try signing back in then going back to gta. I think if you go back to the game not signed in it won't work. The one time it didn't work for me that's what happened . When I do it, I'm sent back to single player then I just hit online through the pause menu.

I'm gonna try it straight from single player and see if that works. If so, it might avoid the issue you're having.

Edit: that didn't work. I see where it signed me out of live, but I was still signed in on my gamer tag. Here's what I did when it worked, I went into my maze bank west garage, disconnected and reconnected the wifi, then went back to a public session and had one alone. It's worked all but one of the times I've tried. I don't know if maybe I'm lucky or it actually works but it has.
