Research? What's next? Accounting?

Hold up so we can do some accounting and see if you have mod money or legit?

This thing is slow as hell and I never thought I would use the term 'research' on a video game.

'Hey did you get the new weapon?'

'No. It's being researched'

Lol

Never played Rollercoaster Tycoon ? ^^

I think its quite fair we need to research and spend some time to get access to all parts of this update.

Better than having all new cars and weapons seconds after they were released and the hype is gone.

I´m still happy i will someday attach these fine reargrenadelauncher to the back of my Tampa and those rockets on the front and this sweet doubleminigun on the top ! :D

What happens when all research items are unlocked?

Does research become useless? Do I have to murder each researcher, buryings the bodies in the bunker somewhere? Dead researchers tell no research,....situation?

The Sims freeplay meets World of Tanks...

Or some sh*t like that, I dunno, don't play any of 'em... The Mrs. plays the Sims, the boy loves explosions... Seems they're the market these days...

Might move to Japan, seems gaming is much more respected there.

Downside... Sushi... Uugh... Lol...

A lot of things are more respected in Japan, I would move to Japan if I could.

The idea of paying some tech guys in game to research cool weapon mods for you isn't inherently terrible. You're not actually DOING the research, just funding it and sourcing their supplies. Seems very much in line with other stuff that's already in the game. Where they went wrong was having you "research" sh*t like liveries... c'mon fam, it's a paint job. And also in how ridiculously long it takes.overall.

I would mind it less if 1) the liveries and other useless aesthetic things were not unlocks, and 2) therefore the total number of things to be "researched" was like half as many, still taking about the same amount of time each to unlock. That would be a lot less insane to me. I could wait to unlock something like explosive sniper bullets; I just don't want to suffer through stupid liveries before I even get to it.

So you've never played a single game that puts a time limit behind accessing items?

Never played Rollercoaster Tycoon ? ^^

Literally the joke going around my Discord server right now.

Any time someone has a camo as their next research unlock, they sigh and compare it to getting crappy scenery and theming from RCT...

It's actually already in THIS game, though it's hard to remember that fact almost 4 years down the road. But GTA Online has had a lot of unlocks from the beginning and a lot of them required you to just play repetitively. Level-locked weapons, PvP-locked gun skins, race-locked mods for cars, etc. It's not new. But they got away from that in a lot of the updates - if anything, they were moving further towards the opposite model, where everyone has access to everything immediately as long as they can afford it - so getting it back spontaneously is kind of weird. It also feels like this stuff is going to take forever to get access to all of it - unless you pay of course.

It's nothing new. At least you can either wait OR pay to expedite the process. In Metal Gear V, you pay AND still have to wait for weapons to developed (assuming u met the criteria for each weapon of course).

A few slight changes would make this sh*t tolerable:

1.) research should be substantially faster for things like skins or scopes

2.) the cost of fast tracking should depend on the item. Fast tracking skins should be 50k. Small tech 150k. Big tech (vehicle weapons) 250k.

3.) players should be allowed to select the items they want to research

Those three things would make this feel more like you're managing your resources and focusing your team and less like a cash grab by Rockstar in a thinly veiled attempt at getting you to buy Shark Cards. I've said it a million times...Rockstar, if you want my actual money make a quality, PAID DLC worth buying and I'll be all over that. Single Player story DLC with map expansion and new toys...do that and I'll shove money down your throat. This sh*t...no thanks. I'll play something else well before I pay for this sh*t.

Well, you could uncheck what things you wanted to research.

Of course, some scenarios had really crappy early research.

And speaking of research, this goes way back to Theme Park, dagnabbit!

Smooth Longsack

I fast tracked a ton of sh*t to get to the rocket bike missiles. Blew through about 7.5 million to reach the pinnacle of gta fun. It was totally worth it and as an added bonus, I got an explosive heavy sniper which ended all jets (happy? :()
