I don't have V on Pc because my computer can't handle it I don't even know how to use Open IV, but i signed the petition and was really indignated about the whole thing, i'm proud of the community and i glad i signed the damn thing because if i had V i would be modding the sh*t out of it, and i will, on the future.

We don't know how things are going to be now but...

It's one in the morning here....not many people will probably see this.

I just wanted to say that I appreciate everything the community has done here! Instead of pages of childless posts there's been more of a mature stand off. I'm happy to see that the modding community will continue to grow and expand. This is definitely a time to remember.

Seriously, if you compare the discussion here to anywhere else ( Pick any news topic on Yahoo ) I've seen more maturity here and it's that's how we make a difference.

I'm still waiting on updates to end for GTAV before I try to use mods and trainers and I'm looking forward to enjoying the work put into these mods. :)

It's great news for the community and everyone on here should be very proud in the role that they played, however I still feel caution is in order until we hear from the openIV team.

While I'll wait for the official confirmation from OpenIV team, just wanted to say this amazing community have all came forward and put their efforts to combat an unfair decision that effected all future modding scenes in GTAV. Even some of those who did not own the game or mod them recognized that this is an absolute injustice to the players on PC. (did my fair share of signing the petition and changed my views on Steam as well)

Very glad these efforts have come to fruition. Can't wait to update my mods now.

Good job, everyone. Happy modding!

I see a bright future ahead of us

If paid mods and restrictions are bright then I guess..

Lets be real here...there may have to be concessions made...but paid mods? Come on now. Bethesda tried that. It didn't work. R* and T2 know that.

More than likely the ceasing of work on OpenIV:LC will be enough...but we have to wait and see.

So it was basically this:

-Take-Two saw (somehow) that the (modified?) OpenIV.ASI was used in online, they didn't know(?) that it's not the original one

-Take-Two also saw total conversions from IV to V using OpenIV, they do not allow such conversions from other IPs as of today's news

So OpenIV is back, but the mods have to be within rules. That's what I'm getting...

Bethesda tried paid mods and it didn't work, so they are trying "mods you pay for with our funny money" now.

Actually that's a misconception, they aren't mods, they're 3rd party DLC, they have to be vetted by Bethesda themselves, they can't be existing free mods that are now going to be monetized, existing mods may only be used as a portfolio to show skill, Bethesda will pay a flat fee to 3rd Parties DLC creators, a kind of wage during their creation of said DLC, they may not receive any royalties from said DLC as is the practice with 3rd Party DLC and expansion creators, this also means whether a DLC is successful or not, it's creator, who may have spent weeks or months creating it, will have been paid in full, and all the risk lies with Bethesda, and whole lot more.

Totalbiscuit explains it better then me:

Take-Two is Rockstar's partner, and basically Rockstar's legal department these days, not Rockstar evil overlord owner, assume that Take-Two checked with Rockstar before they sent the C&D to OpenIV, Rockstar's hands are far from clean in this one. Edited by Reathyr

They're commissioning third party content...this is nothing new...ever heard of Fallout New Vegas? Basically an entire third party game made by Obsidion on commission from Bethesda. The only difference here is that Bethesda are allowing people who are also mod creators to apply. You still need a portfolio and an original idea. ANYWAY...this is off-topic. Yeah, this is offtopic, but one last point, I hope obsidian gets comissioned to work on something like New Vegas at some point.

Anyways, it's almost 11 AM in Russia, I hope NTS has something decent for us to feed our brains with.

If our efforts really paid off, this might end up being one of the best gaming revolutions ever. A community actually got a big video game publisher Take-Two to reverse their decision.

Glad to be a part of this "battle."

I stopped visiting gtaforums.com many years ago because it appeared to have been overrun with sh*tposts / reaction gifs / worthless comments (i.e. "me too"). Please tell me, has things improved around here? Maybe I should come back.

I hope that LC can continue. After all it is a tool that converts from a game someone owns to another game that they own. It is not a map release. This sets it apart from RDRV.

Since GooD-NTS and Rockstar have been in direct communication, they will probably work out something. Rockstar will sell a lot of GTA IV copies. Juat think about how many GTA V copies they sold. Letting that LC mod continue will boost their profits. Hopefully GooD-NTS will convince them.

There are only two logical reasons why Rockstar would say no.

-They plan on doing an LC expansion to GTA Online. (If the OpenIV port can't continue, I hope that this is the case)

-They fear that the files will be leaked. However for this, they still profit since IV is old.

I agree with @nkjellman, the release of the Liberty City map addon mod is justifiable as you'd be needing an official copy of IV. It's summer sale on Steam now, so perhaps it's a good time for release. If not, then it's either one of those reasons.

There were unconfirmed leaks many months ago about a Liberty City map expansion in V, maybe that's what they were worried about?
