Take Two vs. Modding

Champagne is being kept on ice for the moment. Gonna hold off until the official announcement from the OIV team, but hopefully this means I can grab Mafia III in the Steam sale with a clear conscience.

You're still on watch, R* ...

Maybe some peoples actions during the last week were questionable but I'm feeling pretty proud of our community and how we made our voices heard. Rockstar came forward to respond in their own way.

I think this day will go down in history for the GTA community.

We've gotten this far, and they've thought twice. Today will mark a day that any company should keep note of and not make their fanbase mad.

I think this is the beginning of Rockstar splitting up with Take-2.

I wish it was possble but its not. Rockstar is a huge cash cow t2 wont give it up.

Well, I am now since a few months in the stock market and about that. This is the first crisis between Rockstar North/Games and its parent company Take Two, this is just like a marriage. You have some little fight but when the man doesnt give a toss about your problems and still does his own things. She files the divorce.

And actually, this is the first little fight between the Houser Brothers and Zelnick.

It will be interesting how things unfold with RDR2's release.

I know what will happend then...

RDR2 release will be moved to 2020 xD

I wouldn't do that if I were you. Take Two or not, it's a pretty bad game.

Indeed. This is a huge accomplishment and it proves that protest does work. Alone we are a whisper. Together we are a bullhorn right into Zelnicks ear. Perhaps next time the naysayers will think twice before naysaying.

Exactly what I was about to say.

if we work together, we get noticed once more and not be left to find another game. thank you, r*, for not putting us aside and reconsidering the act that take2 made. now we will see if take2 follows this right path or chooses another right path like steam workshop for games. :)

How about R* release a tool or map themselves of Rdr and IV, to import to V, as a token of apology? We already had openiv working, so no big deal.

Lol

I'm just grateful we have OpenIV back, to be honest.

I'm sorry, but I refuse to give R* a free pass on this. Yes, it's great that our efforts appear to have paid off, but I am not convinced by R*'s attempt to position themselves as the good guys in this fiasco. Remember FiveM? Remember their attempt to throw the entire modding community under the bus over the Hot Coffee code? This may well have been their idea from the off - bulldoze anything that threatens to stand in the way of their precious revenue stream and try to punt the blame off to the publisher when things inevitably got heated. We had one fallacious statement, followed by a week of total radio silence in the hope that it would all blow over. Thankfully, it didn't, and the status quo would at least on the surface appear to have been restored. I hate to be negative, but if anyone thinks that something similar won't happen again with RDR2/RDO or GTAVI/GTAOII (whichever is more plausible), then they are woefully naive.

In fact, I'd go so far as to say that GTAV is the last GTA game we see on PC because of this.

Even though we may have to give up big map projects for V, we have our OpenIV tools back, it seems. Take Two have taken notice of our angry voices and, it would appear, have stood down their lawyers. This isn't the end; we shall fight them on the forums, we shall fight them in the Steam reviews and Rockstar support. We shall defend our modding tools and creativity, no matter the cost. We shall never surrender!

We dont have to at all

we just have to wait until someone realises the only way to make them successful is to work on them in complete secrecy, then release it, get it spreading. then the C&D wont matter cause its out there. Look at how many mirrors of OpenIV there was within the first hours of the c&d.

Yes, but this whole situation proves that we the fans have a good amount of weight to criticize and oppose things stupid people in suits do with our games. If this sort of thing ever happens again, we know now that we can help to change things the right way.

That's why I am not getting too excited about this.

Doesn't really make much sense unless serious concessions were made.

V currently site at number 2 global top seller on STEAM.

Clearly the negative reviews had ZERO impact on sales, nobodies boycotting...

God I really hope that happens, it could be the biggest news of the videogame industry in the decade. If that happens then Rockstar may be saved after all. And I think it's entirely possible since Take-Two doesn't own Rockstar, it's actually a partnership as explained in this video:

The chance of that happening in our lifetime is extremely low.

Many companies do this for attention to cash grab a lot of consumers.... But, only problem is, they made the mistake to do it after a decade. When Fame actually has grown upon the OpenIV Team. Many Moms later...
