Good vid - the guy makes some good points.

Personally, I'd never and still won't ever pay for mods. Back in the 3D days, I plopped down money for Vice City and San Andreas and had a blast, downloading all sorts of cars, playing through the campaigns with said vehicles and just joyriding/causing general mayhem - all without paying a dime.

Do I think "games-as-a-service" might be where we're headed? Possibly - though I think the publishers are being short-sighted here. For one thing, GTA isn't and has never been an MMO (where things like micro-transactions are relatively commonplace or at least accepted). For another, people are still cheating in Online even after the recent actions. I don't know what the solution is, or if there even is one right now, but to me, it seems pretty black-and-white: either cough up the money for dedicated servers, cultivate a dedicated playerbase and follow the "Call of Duty model" (hoping that each subsequent release sells at least as well as the previous one), or go all-in creating a steady revenue stream like you have now and just roll the dice. Unless you're working with an MMO or some productivity software (like Photoshop or Office 365), nickel-and-diming won't work. (If this is where things end up, just watch and see how fast "illegal modding" explodes - as has already been proven here, where there's a will, there's a way).

Really though, the absolute root of this problem lies with the fact that a lot of these publishers including Take 2, are publicly traded and thus, are beholden to shareholders. Don't think I need to tell anyone that people on Wall Street don't give a rats ass about what we're faced with, all they care about is pure profit plain and simple. If you didn't see them whoring themselves out on Wall Street, I doubt very much there would be this much grief.

Yeah, GTA was never an MMO and I have no idea why T2 was short-sighted enough to think it would work. I mean, Rockstar always wanted to do a fully-fleshed multiplayer as far back as GTA III, but it took until today for them to have the resources to do so.

I would say GTA IV is what they should have stayed at for ideas. Its multiplayer was surprisingly well-done despite the lack of players (there was a session browser too).

Another thing is they really should have seperated Online into its own game. The fact that it's integrated into GTA V for accessibility does not outweigh the fact that it's piggybacking off of its base content and basically everything else.

Can't believe this thread is 117 pages long in 6 days.

As you will not believe if it is one of the only mods that could be used in GTAV, also the OpenIV almost has been 10 years since he left GTA IV.

PS: The developer doesn't deserve to go through this.

Can you make the billboard for GTA:SA? Possibly for that one mission where you crash through one don't put the X on the T2 logo leave it for CJ to crash through.

Is it just me? Or dev-c.com is gone?

Just you, Dev-C, and the ScriptHookV page are both working with both Google DNS, and OpenDNS. So the domain isn't down.

Site works for me. If it's gone(down) their host could be offline for routine maintenance. People should not go to auto panic mode.

The main page is down, pinging it resolves it's IP to 192.185.46.35, going to 192.185.46.35 brings you to a hostgator landing page.

It's a good thing that GTA Online hacking tools are being shut down. That's what Take Two should've done in the first place, not going after SP mods. All they need to do now is reverse their decision on OpenIV since we've provided more than enough proof that it does nothing at all to affect Online...

Hahahaha I LOVE Saint's Row!

I remember what a God send SR2 was, after hating GTA IV's breathing guts. And then it was awesome how Volition kept upping the craziness in SRTT and SR IV. GTA V is a masterpiece, and the mods make it even better. But frm 2008 through September of 2013, Saints Row was "the New GTA" to me.

Great vid!

Last news.

Since kitchen knives can be used to kill, T2 has forbidden them.

From now on we will eat with our hands...

I think that has more to do with RDR 2 being delayed than the gaming community being pissed off.

is scripthookdotnet needed? or is not needed? are there any alternatives?

The delay was announced in May and their stocks were still rising after. You can notice if you take a look over a longer period of time that it started peaking and then dropping after the OpenIV decision was made.

I don't get it, only a small portion of their fanbase are pc gamers, and why should investors be afraid of T2 pissing off like 1% of the community? Console zombies are still going to buy their games like they do CoD every year.

You don't understand pc gamers. Now, console gamers bought GTA V for long. The remaining market is PC gamers. And 50% of PC Gamers like to invest in their games and be able to mod it. And some other people might do boycott.

Why do you think Skyrim and Doom 3 (2004) are still bought ?

Plus there's also the fact that a ton of major publications picked up on this too. Backlash this big does have effect on stocks. The more people dip, the less Shark Cards. So they lose income and as a result, stocks as well.

This is a very optimistic outlook, mind you, but giving up now would be the worst decision.
