Take Two vs. Modding

I'd write a letter to Rockstar Support to ask if we still are able to mod in singleplayer. I'd spam the question if i get a template answer.

I don't see how modding will die anyway, as we can still mod. Just stay on the current version of GTAV, and continue as normal....Problem solved!

The problem is...if we still mod it will be illegal..and there will be no official support in modding from R* or T2 anymore

Technically, modding isn't illegal. The C&D wasn't meant for us, just the OIV developers.

It kind of is and always was though... er are tampering with their files After all, they just didn't really care until recently.

I concluded that the situation with our Fuhrer, who made a June 15 "night of burning asses", repeats the mission of "Messing with the Man" from GTA Vice City. There it was necessary to fill in the chaosmeter for a certain time. So it is here, the same task for as. They most likely allocated a week / two / month, for which they will look at the reaction of the community, and then make a conclusion and decide how to behave further. Maybe this is done just to see how much they will lose sales if the next GTA will be only online, without a single modable version.

Idk if this is legit or has been posted before (to many pages to check) but I'll just throw it in here. Found on Twitter

I'm with this guy.

Online hackers got us into this mess so I suggest they up their game and give everyone online $500 million each.

Imagine the boy Zelnucks face when he sees his precious Shark card income plummet.

Emergency board meeting!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this idea! If this could actually be done on a mass scale it would be amazing! It would completely screw with Take2's current Freemium business model. But it would have to be a sustained campaign. Because when masses of people are gifted huge sums of money by hackers, Rockstar periodically comes in and removes the GTA bucks from the accounts of players.

So it couldn't be some giant one-off thing. Like you said, hackers would have to step up their game to riun the business model.

So if that skype screencap is legit and Alex is simply waiting for the situation between T2 and OpenIV... It just sounds like we shouldn't hold our breath honestly.

Rage Plugin was already updated for GunRunning, the community is moving on with the mod ban thing.. I get his situation f*cking blows but too much depends on him at the same time, I don't want other people's and my project to die because of it.

I guess I just really don't understand his intentions behind "Waiting to see how the T2 situation will be resolved".

At any rates if he updates ScriptHook he'll have some financial support from me.

It means no SHV till the problem is finished

and it also means :

Take Two vs. Modding COMMUNITY

It depends on us how to make T2 change the way they look to things related to SP modding ...

If Rockstar adhered to the demands of the modding community, where will it end? I can't honestly see them allowing a minority of their users to dictate the direction of the game.

The media coverage and negative reviews will only get you so far. Do you really think they were oblivious to the prospect of controversy when they made this decision? Something like this is not made lightly, but I'd say they were more than prepared for the inevitable backlash.

Your defiance will serve only to reinforce their decision. Do you honestly think Take-Two will show amicability after the talk of boycotting, circumventing security measures, or piracy?

All you are doing is fanning the flames. You're not salvaging anything from this debacle.

This may be true, but you know what? The reverse is definitely true. Meaning if we just all collectively bend over and take it up the ass from a company trying to destroy modding in a last-ditch attempt to get more SP people to relent and come over to Online and maybe buy Shark Cards, then they still win. So doing nothing, we definitely lose. Doing something, in your scenario, we probably lose. At least doing "something" gives us a chance.

And, if not? Then f*ck it! At least this way we get our pound of flesh and show those business criminals and corporate thugs that we are capable of a backlash that can hurt them. In short, if we have to lose this one, then lets not lose like sheep. Let's go out like gaming warriors!

Also, here is a point: ask yourself why now? I mean, the game is FOUR years old already. Why in the hell would Rockstar/Take2 be so supportive, or at least accepting of mods in the past? Yet now that the game is four years old, and GTA VI (or GTA: Next) will likely be out in the next could of years, all of a sudden this Jihad against modders in a four year old game?

Makes no sense from ANY other standpoint, this late in the game, for Take2 to be doing this for ANY other reasons that a transparent attempt to bully us into going online, where some last minute Shark Cards can be purchased to have a glut of final revenue before the new game is announced. By taking away modding fun, they clearly hope that the people addicted to all those cool toys, will have modding-withdrawal, and be so desperate to be anally raped that we will rush to online. Since, now, Onliune is the "only GTA in town."

So by this community doing EVERYTHING we can to attack Take2 and to not relent, then maybe we win, and probably we lose, but at least we stand a chance this way. And if not, if GTA V modding is truly doomed, then maybe, just maybe, those Take2 corporate goons will think twice before screwing with modders in the next game.

I really doubt the problem will be finished, that's the thing. We're sitting docks with negative Steam reviews that don't really do sh*t.

T2 will always continue to take down projects they believe has an impact on their control over the multiplayer aspect even though it barely does or just don't at all.

The way I see this is either mods die because no SHV update, or they have a chance dying from T2's actions with a SHV update.

So how it is possible that mods working fine in my GTA? Open IV working fine? I repeat - no one is forcing us to stop using mods. They dont dare to do so:)
Some of you are incredibly shortsighted.

Yes OpenIV still works as of right now but when Rockstar updates the encryption with the next update OpenIV will no longer work. The only way to use OpenIV will be to either not upgrade your game or downgrade.

Anything they update will be for adding Online content only. Yes, there might be new encryption, but there will be no reason to update anyway. Mod the latest moddable version and don't worry about the "latest and greatest" because there isn't anything great about GTA w/o mods.

We need some promotional machinimas.

Anyone wants to write a script here?

I'll start:

LifeInvader interior. Devin Weston plays Zelnick.

DW: "So, why the hell is our target audience is pissed off? We put a hammer down on bad guys, the "modders", we shut their main tool down. Now everyone can consume the product in peace and buy sharkcards."

Corporate flunky 1: "And play Adversary Modes"

Corporate flunky 2: "Yeah, Adversary Modes, gotta keep the kids playing, er, spending"

cont?

It would be funny if everyone of us made parody songs with lyrics that poke fun at T2/R*. Much like these guys did against a movie house that refused to give them permission to post a parody video on Youtube they worked for weeks and spent a few hundred thousand bucks on.

Just release a new song aimed at T2/R* every Sunday and some major media house will pick it up eventually once those videos trend on Youtube.

See the post above you. Total Biscuit just muscled in. Total Biscuit is HUGE. His channel carries great influence. If Take Two does not cave now it will be of great consequence to them.

If he would update SHV right now i guess people would stop caring about the whole situation. But on the other hand.. is the move pretty bad because so far there is no sight of resolving the situation about openiv.

So bad I was having fun with modding for 4 months or so, because my friend's computer went down and I was playing on his copy.

Now I'm having like half year break and I was sure to buy myself a copy after I get a proper PC (now just having a laptop). But yeah, if that so, I'm happy I can spend it on something else as I haven't purchased the GTA V copy. I would be pissed off.

I have another route to follow that could help get our point across to Take Two. Yesterday, I went to Take Two's website, and I sent them a message through their Contact system. However, rather than have the message routed through as a "General Inquiry", I selected "Investor Relations" because, let's face it, with a company as large as Take Two the odds are slim to none that they bother to read any general inquiries, but would definitely be reading and listening to those who supply them with their near 1.5-billion dollar revenue (we may not possess stock, but we sure as heck contributed immensely to their earnings). The message has to be constrained to 300 characters, so I just made my message brief, honest, and to the point, but also respectful.

I just figured I'd throw this route out there, seeing as how it may help.

I have a feeling re-reading the last part of Rockstar's official statement that somehow Rockstar will come out of their hiding and say "Okay modding community, we will now provide you with a singleplayer modding tool from our own end that you may continue to use for your vehicle, texture replacement and other script mods as long as you promise not to use our Rage title maps and try to port them into our newer games and that in no way will this tool be re-engineered to be usable in GTAO".

Its the best thing R* can do right now but there's a good chance they won't even bother with it.

I haven't been on here in ages, but I must say how honestly disappointing to see how Take Two has no understanding of why exactly fans of the game mod in the first place. They are so concerned about their online community and their micro-transactions (Shark Cards) that they'll apparently go to ANY length, even if it means harming the Single-player only community who just wants to have more fun with a game they paid their own hard-earned money for to enjoy.

f*ck what Take Two has done, I seriously hope the message here continues to get spread, especially now with multi-million subscribers like Boogie2988 and Total Biscuit now getting in on this to spread their viewpoints out.

If anything, I do hope R* and Take Two do give those some sort of "apology" for online players. Whilst I appreciate them going after the major free-to-use mod menus, they should've ONLY been sticking to that and not hurt OpenIV, which was NEVER made (or even designed) for Online use.

The reviews on Steam are just a great sign of what happens when you f*ck over a large community of the PC gaming audience.

Why not just cobbling together your own port of SHV meanwhile?

Oh I don't know...how about...closed source?

There's a running theme here...closed source projects are effectively shutdown when the developer can no longer support them...almost makes me wish there was another...more open way to do software development...
