So they're saying porting any Rocktsar Games's maps or assets are illegal right?

Does that mean we have to create our own assets? ......

Well, actually, it is understandable at some point.

Plus it would be better to actually see more mods that has been done by real people behind and not just a ported model from X game ( I hate car mods that are promoted when in fact they have just ported the vehicle from another game, I HATE THAT )

OpenIv should drop script support

Did it ever have it?

Not really, no. In theory if you could de/compile scripts yourself OpenIV would allow you to place the edited scripts into the archives...but since we have scripthook I don't see anyone doing that...that's how script mods such as trainers were done on the PS3 and 360 in the beginning...but it was notoriously unstable. .sprx/.asi is MUCH better. They were vague on user created maps, so that's still a grey area, but ANYTHING under Take-Two or Third Party IP is disallowed from being imported into their engine. That includes RAGE era games, 3D Era games, stuff from other games like Driver, etc.

Ah, that's pretty clear and them covering up their own arses (but unlikely that they'd C&D for another company)

It was never legal to convert cars or models from any game to any other in the first place, and for that matter, it's also illegal to make cars based on real models without having acquired the rights from the manufacturer. Racing games have to obtain those rights to use real brands and models, and sometimes they can't secure them because of licensing costs, exclusivity deals or because the manufacturer feels the game's content is harmful to his brand image (hence why you don't see real models in GTA or games that feature realistic damage). So unless you built the model from scratch AND obtained permission from the manufacturer (which means you've probably paid a licensing fee), distributing car models is copyright infringement and absolutely illegal.

HOWEVER, this is the real world we live in. Neither game developers or auto manufacturers have any time or money to waste going after people who convert models. Meaning you'll still find plenty of model conversions for GTA (or any other game that supports mods) for years to come.

Absolutely agree with what you say except for one thing. Creating a 3D model based of a real car is legal as long as it is free, no ?

Never knew it was even a thing. If you're talking about YSC scripts then this is all I could get out of OpenIV:

Absolutely unreadable.

EDIT. Ah, you're talking about IV/Episodes, I see now.

alright, let me rephrase the question - OpenIV allow SCRIPTING EDITING?

SCO script thing is for IV/EFLC only as far as I know.

YSCs so far have only been decrypted by other people and can be found somewhere in the Internet.

(And you can't recompile back.)

Can't wait to hear from GooD.

Not if you share it, no. It's still copyright/trademark infringement, even if you don't profit from it.

Then again, if you're not selling it, your chances of ever getting in trouble are virtually nonexistent - if a car manufacturer is a bear in the food chain, you are bacteria.

Maybe our map modders should become map builders, I heard something about a city far to the north of us but still in San Andreas state *cough*San Fiero*cough*, and even one just a short way away to the south *cough*gta version of San Diego*cough*, and to the east there's apparently even a large desert state with it's own large city *cough*Las Venturas*cough*.

So, only script mods are allowed? I still don't get it.

What about vehicles, weapons, player models, skins and all?

Scratch made only. Which is bollocks, in my opinion, as they have been appreciating stuff such as that GTA 1 map mod in GTA 4 or (iirc) the GTA 3 RAGE Classic mod.

guys, this won't allow open IV to return:

https://support.rockstargames.com/hc/en-us/articles/115009494848

This is not a license, and it does not constitute endorsement, approval, or authorization of any third-party project. Take-Two reserves the right to object to any third-party project, or to revise, revoke and/or withdraw this statement at any time in their own discretion. This statement does not constitute a waiver of any rights that Take-Two may have with respect to third-party projects

which means open IV will still have the C&D

C* ain't your friends, they never have been and never will.

Don't know if I am late here, but if anyone hasn't seen this, you're missing out on some good news:

https://motherboard.vice.com/en_us/article/ywz87k/rockstar-games-talks-publisher-into-leaving-grand-theft-auto-v-modders-alone

It's happening and the new OpenIV update is out... All the petitions, negative reviews, and videos about TakeTwo worked. I think we won the war.

ScripthookV also got an update.

Good luck with that. Most of the map mods for V are either conversions from an older game or mod and objects placed with the Map spooner. It would be a while before we see quality map mods that gets released.

Not to mention that R* has supported map mods from older games to new ones. I believe they posted vids of the GTA1 map and the GTA 3 map to IV on the Newswire.
