Original Light
I have a doge following me around. He's a good doge. Keep your eyes on the right skill tree, there's a skill that lets you tame animals. You need to put them to sleep and tame them. It works on domestic animals such as doges too. When they die, they're dead but even if you run away from them they still follow you and spawn near you. Dunno what happens if I restart the game. I don't understand why I can't pet me some f*cking cats though. They stripped the most important feature out of the game lol. You can pet them! Crouch near them, and Bayek will automatically start petting the cat. It's an automatic action without a button. chronic lumbago
darthYENIK
Im not sure I like the combat. Especially since it seems like every enemy runs to the nearest horse and starts slinging arrows. Kind of kills the fun of combat. Edit: and when you jump from high up, and it damages you, it looks like you sh*t blood. El Dildo
ok it's obviously pretty early but so far I don't have any complaints I enjoy the combat. the shield is fun to use. I like dodging and priming enemies for shield breakers and heavy attacks. it's all pretty fluid and only took moments to get a hang of. I was whooping ass after my first fight. I really enjoy the atmosphere. sound effects are great. music is on point. exploring ancient tombs for treasure is going to be fun. I adjusted my controls to feel more like the classic AC control scheme so that climbing and running feel natural. some of the "missing details" that people are complaining about are actually still in the game but they're tied to context instead of a specific control or button. you can still pet animals by crouching next to them. you can light braziers and torches on the walls of tombs by having your own torch equipped and stopping next to them for a moment. things like that. and I really don't care that they removed the extended 'looting' animation. just grab stuff and move on. works for me. chronic lumbago
Edit: and when you jump from high up, and it damages you, it looks like you sh*t blood.I have to admit, I was quite disappointed the first time taking fall damage, only to get blood all over my face for no reason. Ubisoft finally stepped up their side quests in this game. They're pretty damn good. Not quite Witcher 3 kind of good, but the days of boring fetch quests seem to be gone. Every side quest has a often interesting story, some have multiple objectives, cutscenes and overall are fun to do. No more doing side quests because your map overflows with map markers. Now I'm on the lookout for side quests because I actually enjoy to do them. I like how you can just stumble onto something in the world and it starts a side quest you haven't met an NPC for (yet). Some seem like simple fetch quests but the stories are very interesting. You're not just your everyday hero helping the world, Bayek's personality kinda reflects throughout those side missions aswell. He has things to say and has reason to help the people he helps. Bayek is amazing. I can't tell if he'll top Ezio until I've finished everything but I can already tell, he's the best protag since Ezio. darthYENIK
I miss the database. How else would I know that the Hippodrome in Alexandria is the basis for the Hippodrome in Constantinople? I know that from Assassins Creed Revelations.
Original Light
I think this is the first Assassin's Creed game without an animus database. But, that took a lot of labor and time for them to develop. If scrapping that resulted in a better game in other areas, I'm all for it. I never really read it other than for some characters or locations that really intrigued me. Combat is still tricky for me. I find myself using the bow and arrow more often. Enemies more than a couple levels above you are definitely sponges and are impossible to defeat. But that's pretty much the same in most open world RPG games nowadays, so it's not fair to list this as a negative. I haven't found it to hinder exploration as of yet, since you can still use stealth in many areas. chronic lumbago
I confess I never read a database entry EVER in an AC game. Well, maybe some of them. Modern day tiny spoiler, read only if you played the first modern day sequence: That laptop is pretty cool though. I haven't read all of it yet but there's a lot of stuff to read. From Abstergo rules and conspiracies to Lara Croft's personal life and her connection to abstergo to her keeping journals of Bayek's journey.. it's all pretty cool and it's a good enough replacement for the database. It's not worth it complaining about the tiniest things. This AC-RPG hybrid is the best thing that happened to the series since AC2 (maybe the best thing ever). I'm very happy the map opened up after the first sequence. If they locked every district depending on story progress, that would have killed the game for me. darthYENIK
The Database was just a big thing for me. I didnt appreciate them until maybe the last couple years, and many playthroughs of most of the games. But theyve become essential for me. They elevate the game to something more than a game. Something... dun...dun...duuuuuun... educational. Layla's computer is not a good replacement. Its great to bring people who might have skipped the movie, or wondered if it was truly part of the game canon, as well as tell you who Layla and Breanna are. But its fiction. The database was (mostly) fact. It would be great if they made a better form of the database, maybe that's what the discovery mode or whatever is. chronic lumbago
Yes, I understand what you're saying. Maybe it doesn't bother me that much because I've always been interested in Egypt, even did full presentations back at school and I'm just glad I can finally see it all in motion in a video game. I'm looking foward to discovery mode, from what I understand you can roam Egypt and basically learn everything Egypt. It would be awesome if you could form your own Database, in form of collectibles to have everything you discovered in one place. I don't get this sense at all. when I'm standing in a town / city center I see a lot of variety. people walking about in groups, people stopping to chat with vendors, people looking at rugs or skins, carrying baskets of trade goods, driving their cattle herd to market, I've seen snake charmers, I've seen buskers playing musical instruments, I've seen priests singing a holy chant, I've seen worshipers enter temples and fall to their knees in prayer. there's kids playing tag. dudes sitting around eating lunch. ladies weaving baskets. Waiting for patches and price drop never hurts but I don't regret my full priced purchase at all. If you have nothing to play and want to play something new, I'd say go for it. If you can wait a bit, wait. I think it's an excellent game so far. There are mixed throughts on the combat but I don't have anything to complain about. Stealth works pretty much like always. chronic lumbago
It feels more complete than any other AC game before lol. There are no major bugs in this game and nothing that can't be polished in future patches. Don't be a crybaby because you rarely get stuck parkouring down a vase lol. Framerate dips don't occur half as often as people say. I had a minor framerate drop in Alexandria once but it didn't make me feel like it took away from the experience, nor did it make me feel like the game is "incomplete". The game delivers on so many points that minor bugs don't even matter here. I've spend 2-3 hours exploring Akexandria today, literally walking around, letting my breath be taken away by this gorgeus city. Framerate dropped once near a certain location. Senu also helped me get a better angle for some great screenshots. Edited October 29, 2017 by fashion

Leftist Bastard
You all are tripping balls seriously, or I am since everyone is all over this game. I'm Ubisoft's number one apologist but the combat is a janky, poor imitation of the Soulsborne combat everyone wants a slice of now a days, stealth is a joke and the frame rate is sinful. The world is good but it feels wasted on this game. Not impressed so far
El Dildo
sorry you're not having any fun I've enjoyed combat. been getting better at it each time I meet a new type of enemy. the skill tree is pretty deep. I try to pick new skills carefully to match the style of fighting I do best. which is sneaking around and picking off grunts with my arrows or air assassinations until it's time to finish the heavy guys off close with my shield. works well so far. for the record I have no idea what "Soulsborne" is. how is stealth a joke? it seems to be working as intended. assassinations from cover, assassinations from the air, whistling to lure guards, setting booby traps on the alarms, etc. I've also had zero frame-rate issues. playing on PC. Leftist Bastard
Soulsborne = Souls game/Bloodborne combat which most games try to imitate now a days. It's either that or Arkham combat. I'v been pouring most of my points into combat hoping to make it better and it just isn't fun. Hits lack any sort of oomph or satisfaction, kill animations are dreadfully limited and the camera can go insane when toggling between multiple attackers. Lots of issues with the hitboes too. It's too primitive, too inconsistent and it lacks any sort of real finesse. The AI can be too dumb to notice their friends getting knocked out within their peripheral vision and sometimes they can see you halfway across the map. i'm playing on ps4. poorly optimized and i'v had 2 crashes so far
chronic lumbago
I can't say I'm not having fun with the combat. There's a wide weapon variety, it feels brutal and a bit tactical. The bow feels great, better than Horizon Zero Dawn's bowplay which I didn't enjoy that much. Gadgets such as sleeping darts and fire bombs also feel better than before and I never cared much about bombs in AC games. I played bloodborne for a few hours and it feels different to me. It reminds me more of Hellblade and I appreciate that because I loved that combat. Idk what kind of combat people expect. There are different weapon types, you can block with a shield, you can shoot the bow, you can use gadgets, you can dodge, use light and heavy attacks, combos, horse/camelback combat is really cool, everything is here. It works well and if games get inspired by other games, I don't see any problem in that. AI sometimes doesn't make any sense. Some are smart, some are mindnumbingly dumb. I also think I should've started on hard. The combat is a little challenging but I come out victorious almost every time when I face someone of my level. It's not that I button mash my way through but I pay full attention to what's going on and can win easily. Don't lock onto enemies. You really don't need to. I haven't locked on since my 1st hour of the game. Way more fun like this. I think you could try give it more time and get used to the combat. It isn't broken. Look at Risen 3, that is broken combat. El Dildo
literally the only thing I can complain about in this game so far is sandstorms there are too many sandstorms and they happen too often. that being said all you have to do is meditate and they go away. chronic lumbago
I like how we finally got an RPG that appreciates how players like to wear clothes that look the best and not only look out for the best stats. All clothing options are purely cosmetic and to get better stats, you have to upgrade your breastplate and so on. I really love my Massai Warror outfit, looks great with or without a hood. feckyerlife
So, fellas, is this worth buying right now or should I wait for some patches and a price drop? i bought it yesterday, i was skeptical at first, but so far it seems like the best AC game of the series (but i havent played that many). It still feels like your traditional AC game but with elements from Witcher 3 and Ghost Recon. Only thing im not a fan of, is the combat, maybe its the controls? r1 for quick attack r2 for strong, i just dont like that. darthYENIK
Im going to talk about 'cons'. I am not a fan of putting RPG elements like leveled opponents. Im on a mission where I am one hit killed, every time I encounter an opponent of a certain level. No avoiding it, no blocking, no dodging. Every time, dead. I have to level up to beat him. Doesnt feel like Assassin's Creed. I had the same problem with Unity, but at least in Unity you could shank anyone with a hidden blade. But in Origins you have to upgrade your hidden blade if you want to take down enemies with a higher level. I just dont like it if this is the direction this series is going. Sure Assassin's Creed games have been historically easy. Once you got down fighting, you feel like a master. Cutting down a group of baddies in one combo. But that was fun, made you feel like a badass. This feels like hack and slash. Maybe I havn't got down the fighting, but I just don't like the combat. Other than that, and the lack of a database, I really enjoy the game. rtie
