Picked the game on Black Friday and been playing on and off for a few days. It's just amazing! and man, the enemies in this game are relentless. They will chase you everywhere. I was trying to escape a group of them. One said "you are not climbing your way out of that":lol:

Finally started this today. And all I am going to say is wow.

I am really, really enjoying it. I done about 4 hours today and it went in the blink of an eye, I was so drawn in to the game. It looks amazing, and I am having so much fun hunting and exploring, I don't feel like I need to crack on with quests to keep me occupied, In fact I haven't even made it out of the first town yet.

The game feels fresh and the combat is something I really enjoy, I start fights with random guards any chance I get just to see how I can kill them with different weapons. The bow is my favorite so far, I hope I can continue using it effectively once I hit higher level enemies.

I found a den of thieves somewhere in the desert, and one of the enemies had a red skull above his head, the game told me he was too high a level for me to handle at the moment, I thought pffttttt. I have played Assassins Creed since launch I think I'll be okay, turns out I really, really wasn't  I died a swift and sudden death. Which was awesome.

Also, photo mode is amazing, I have been playing about with it so much, I can see myself using this feature a sh*t tonne.

Not too deep into it but I am loving it so far, I am at work this week until Thursday and then I have 9 days booked off as chill time. I already know what I will be spending them days doing...

I took these example pictures after my post about vignettes.

I feel like the second picture has more depth and looks a bit more dynamic.

Ra bless you Ubisoft.

Nightmare difficulty and enemy scaling incoming this month. The scaling only works on enemies of lower level than you though..

The scaling is welcome , i personally dont see a reson for the nightmare mode, ive been playing in hard with a cursed weapon equipped so there is no real room for mistakes, its kill or be killed

MOTHER OF GOD

After almost 110 hours, you tell me you can speed up your boat by holding R2?

You've gotta be sh*tting me :D I just discovered this.

Now I understand why everyone thought the boats go too fast. I always used my left stick only to speed up the boat.

Anways, heading for the 3rd Trial of Gods right now.

Yeah, took me a while (maybe not that long) to figure out boat sprinting. Thats fine, I enjoyed my slow gondola trips down the Nile. Got to really soak in the game world.

logged in today and saw a new mission available "secrets of the old pyramids" or at least i thought it was new

is that the reward people get for pre ordering a game? a short and with no real reward side mission ?

Well, it certainly wasn't a mission worth preordering for.

"Secrets of the first piramid" sounds dope as f*ck but the mission turned out to be total clickbait material.

It's obviously been cut from the main game. It seems you guys can have it for free now.

not free, you need to pay 40 uplay units, yes they are worthless but so was the mission :p

kind of sucks that with the last trial of the gods done and still no Anubis outfit.

now that I've completed the game a couple of times I can honestly say that I wish it were longer.

at first you don't mind because the scale is pretty grand, it's beautiful, and there's lots of side quests... but once you know what you're doing (and where you're going) you can finish the game in just a couple of days at which point you're over-leveled for any of the side quests. I'm not sure why I would want to stick around for the remaining community challenges like defeating the Old God's.

they should pump this game up with some serious DLC.

given how the story ends, we could easily take this adventure across the sea to Rome or Greece. Egypt is outstanding but I wish the cities were larger. I'd trade a smaller map for more condescended cities. less empty desert, more room to explore Memphis or Cairo or Alexandria.

The last AC game I bought was Black Flag and enjoyed every second of it. I rented the next few but couldn't get into them, but then comes Origins. The story was great and there were so many side quests, was easily worth the money to buy. I played for 75 hours, completed all main/side quests and numerous other question marks but the map is still covered with more to do and explore. Fingers crossed Ubisoft sticks to the 2 years between games and fills them content and top notch story like this.

There's a rumor going on of a Rouge HD remaster. If you ask me, let them release a remastered triple pack of AC3, Liberation and Rouge next year and give us ORIGINS 2 SET IN ROME OR GREECE in two years.

Then again, there's also a rumor of leaked concept art of an AC set in Japan.. which would be great too but I'd rather see this story develop further.

Set Origins 2 in Rome and Origins 3 in Greece. Look at the map of Greece, what do you see? A sh*tton of islands and the capitol set not too far off the coast.

In the time period, Rome has a lot of history untold or.. you know. Talked about this one before in a spoiler. Greece too, if my history is correct then there was a civil war going on around Bayek's time period.

i'd like to see a Caribbean pirates myself. i was frustrated like never by Black flag map invisible walls. you don't know how hard i hated that game for this. there was so much potential. the same thing with ACO freedom man i think i become a no-life . but ancient Greece would be cool too, i think. whatever they do, i just hope devs will keep putting few animus stuff. i mean that thing is so dumb :panic:. it's the second time i say it, but there will be a Rome themed DLC in the Sinaï region

Ubi has been sending emails with polls about Origins and the future of the franchise. My inbox is still empty though. All I found is this pic online:

lGUWF4X.jpg

These are the potential future settings it seems.

@jpm1: Sorry but I think modern day isn't going anywhere. They should have scrapped it a long time ago and instead insist on poking this dead horse and trying to make it move. Just ignore it.

You better get used to those "supernatural" elements such as the artifacts though. A very imporant part of AC.

if Assassin's Creed doesn't go to Feudal Japan soon I'm going to be really disappointed.

they've really exhausted the European side of history... just like everything else in entertainment and Hollywood. get away from the White Anglo-Saxon experience already and branch the f/ck out. human history is so much more rich and complex than Ubisoft is giving it credit for. I understand it's natural in a Western marketplace to cover all the Euro-based content first but it's really shallow after awhile.

the same can be said of most video games.

how many times can we rehash World War 2? how many times can we replay Medieval Fantasy? it's just boring now. I'm tired of white people and white history

think about all the great military campaigns of Asia, India, Africa, and South/Central America; all the exotic locations and cultures.

I want to be a Samurai and craft legendary swords and armors. I want to be a Sumerian soldier and scale the tower of Babel. I want to be a Jaguar warrior in the heart of the jungle and climb the steps of the great Sun temple pyramid or explore Machu Picchu.

@ fashion: i respect your opinion. but IMO not only it's the supernatural thing that leads to nowhere. but i think it could even kill the franchise. i mean seriously these ancient dudes discovered something like radioactivity like 5000 years ago. come on. maybe some people enjoy the alien theory thing, but seriously this is just bull

Complaining about AC retreading well known Euro-centric ground and then asking for a Feudal Japan/Samurai game is pretty ironic considering that time period is the vanilla ice cream of Eastern settings. It's been done to exhaustion, more than some of the Euro-centric settings we've seen in the series.

I agree about feudal Japan. But I don't want to be a samurai. I want to be a f*ckin' ninja!

Also, we need a western Assassin's Creed. Just imagine what you could do with all those historic figures from the old west.

the only game that impressed me that much was GTAIV. i stopped in an oasis. started 3 fires around my tent, and my bed, and i just waited for the sunset. then a bit later i came across these dancers. i have 130h, one region to discover, and the more i play, the more i have the feeling there's still a mountain of things to discover

Just to be clear, I didn't preorder it because of the mission. I explained my reasons on some of the first pages. It was also the first preorder I ever made.

I was just saying, the mission name is 10 times more exciting than the mission itself. You're absolutely right.

Okay, even though I'm still plowing through sidequests and have a lot left to do, I did complete the main quest and have played this beast for like 70 hours, so I feel qualified to give my opinion on the game. I f*cking love it.

I don't know if it's my personal favorite (I think that still might be III, even if that game feels all unfinished in places), but objectively, I'm thinking it might be the best of the series yet. Though it does have a few flaws, so I'll get those out of the way right now.

* Pretty much all of the higher level bosses and even some of the enemies are basically damage sponges that can take ridiculous amounts of punishment. It's not a huge complaint, but it can feel pretty goofy when you've given a guy or animal like a million whacks with a poisoned sword and they're still fine. Like I said, not a huge complaint though.

* While I wouldn't say the historical aspect is anywhere near as bungled as Unity's, I was a bit disappointed in some aspects. Namely, Caesar basically became another Robespierre where they took a controversial, fascinating historical figure and made him more of a straight villainous type in the end. That being said, I still think they did a decent job overall, and I wasn't really expecting it to be super historical anyway, what with the setting they chose. In fact, they haven't really explored the historical aspect of their games too deeply since the polarized reaction to III, have they? Black Flag was as historical a game about the Golden Age of Piracy that we're gonna get, but ever since then? The French and Indian War and French Revolution were basically interesting backdrops to the stories of Rogue and Unity (well, Unity tried to explore the Revolution more... keyword being "tried"), and Syndicate sidestepped the issue by just having a straight up adventure in Victorian London, without hitching its wagon to any specific events or conflicts IIRC. But I digress.

* F*ck me Jumbe (one of the war elephants) was a pain in the ass. I took down the others no problem (even the one where you fight two at once didn't give me much trouble), but that bastard must have killed me like 50 times before I finally won by cheesing light and warrior bows with healing properties. I think I might have yelled "F*CK YOU DUMBO" when I finally beat him haha.

* The Great Sphinx... it's smaller than I expected.

In case you haven't noticed, I'm really stretching for gripes. Did I mention I love it?

So yeah, this game is everything I hoped for, and then some. The story isn't one of the series' best, but it's interesting enough, and carried by some truly great protagonists. Bayek is inching close to the title of "favorite Assassin" for me, and Aya is pretty damn awesome too.

And the twist involving her at the very end, OH MAN! Wonder if we'll get that in a game in the future? I'm totally down for more adventures with her, which is pretty clearly what they're setting up, especially since she had the idea to expand the Hidden Ones across the world while Bayek seems pretty content to stay and help Egypt. Having another full mainline AC game with a lady Assassin sounds so awesome.

And the gameplay. Oh my, the gameplay. So it's no secret that I f*cking love Assassin's Creed III, but I can't deny that it's very flawed. The game just isn't as polished as it should be and feels all unfinished, with weird little glitches here and there, clunky systems, and overly streamlined missions.

But this, I feel this is what III should have been. It's so similar to that game in a lot of ways (huge open world with different cities (and this time, it's completely seamless and connected), deadly wildlife, heavy emphasis on a bow, etc.), but does such an amazing concept justice. Not only does it play like a dream, but you're given so much freedom. Want to ghost it? Okay, go ahead. Want to run in and hack everybody to pieces? Knock yourself out. It really reminded me of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain in that it's technically pretty repetitive, but there's enough freedom with any given task that it still feels relatively fresh. And... they FINALLY get rid of the optional objectives that have been a plague of the series IMO since Brotherhood, which I am so thankful for. I know they were all, well, optional, but it was so annoying having that red failed objective shoved in your face, like "EEEENH YOU DID IT WRONG". This time, there's none of that crap.

And the RPG elements, I feel they work really well for the most part. It's annoying how limiting it can feel, but it does give you incentive to build your skills and get revenge on that enemy who was giving you trouble, or do that really interesting mission. And it can lead to some really intense moments. Early on, the Phylakes were a lot like Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 for me, in that they show up at the worst possible moments and can end you quick. So even though you eventually can level up and kill them all, I loved how I quickly came to fear them. And one gripe I've seen many people have is that it doesn't go full RPG and give you choices. This I don't really have a problem with. Especially since every choice Bayek made in the game was the choice I would have made anyway.

And last but not least, oh my god the open world is one of the most amazing I've ever seen. For a setting that sounds like (to quote Frank Woods in Black Ops II) "Sand, sand, and more f*ckin' sand" on paper, Egypt is actually quite varied and colorful, with different types of desert, swamps, grassy plains, and even a couple forests. Yeah, they're not exactly Tall Trees or even Chiliad Mountain State Wilderness, but I still appreciated them. And all the cities are just gorgeous. And the pyramids! Oh my god I just loved going down inside them (and a ton of other tombs in the game, for that matter) and exploring these creepy dark tunnels, which had me nostalgia-ing hard for the PS1 Tomb Raider games (especially the first one and The Last Revelation and even The Mummy PS1 movie game haha. I should also mention that for me, this was probably the most dangerous-feeling open world since Red Dead Redemption. Not only are there bandits who will try to rob you, but there's so much dangerous wildlife, and it really helps that you finally deal with animal attacks in real time instead of as goofy QTEs.

Soooo I think that's everything. Did I mention I f*cking love it? Because I really f*cking love it to bits.

Great review but Jumble was the easiest elephant of them all lol. I beat him the very moment I turned lvl 40. The hardest of them all was the bastard in the green mountains.

One thing that I do miss, but it kinda makes sense why it's missing, is an upgradable economy system in any form. Whether it's upgrading your villa, buyiny stores in cities ect OR the awesome meta games where you send your ships/assassins on a journey.

It makes sence for Bayek to not turn Egypt into a one man monopoly or have a big villa, it fits his character to just go around and help people and participate in the dozens of new activities instead so don't get me wrong.

The meta game would be a great endgame mechanic, literally endgame. Expand the brotherhood outside of Egypt and send your fellow assassins across the known world.

Has any of you played Yakuza 0? As Majima, you could hire people to travel the world for you to recover weapons and resources. This would've worked so well in this game. Pay your assassins for the journey, send them on missions to recover gear from Rome, Greece, Germania, other parts of Africa and so on. They'll come back with unique gear. I'd like this 10 times more than heka chests.

Speaking of which, all the economy has been dumbed down to heka chests, which kinda sucks. It wouldn't surprise me if an economy mechanic makes a return in the DLC.

For starters, not all ninja were mercs. There were clans, such as the Iga and Kōga, that were specifically trained to be ninja pretty much since birth. Ubi could easily tie in the Assassins into either of them and it would work just fine.
