Music Confessions

Femme Fatale

Since we have one for Gen Chat, GTA, Gaming, and Movies/TV, then why not Music, too?

Here's a few of mine:

I like to think of these three songs as my pervy alter-ego's "theme songs". There's a reason why XXI called me "ya nastay"(ironically, the name of one of the songs) on my masturbation milestone thread. :pp

I'm genuinely curious if Mr. Scratch, and make total destroy are really going to start a band together. A band with both the cutest member, and the smexiest member in it? I'd LOVE to join them as a groupie. :inlove:

I've been wanting to write a review of The Gun Club, and Japan's debut albums, and Macabre's Sinister Slaughter for p long time. It's just that I never have the time to do it.

It took me a long time to like GG Allin's tamer material from the early days of his career. Back when Drunken Cowboy(RIP) introduced me to him, I started to listen to his pervy and violent songs, so I was surprised by the power pop that he played back when he was the frontman of The Jabbers. Although there were a few signs of what he would later become. Like Steve Huey said on his review of their only album:

"Amazingly enough, the violent hatred, sexual and psychological degradation, and staggering stupidity only hint at the heights (or depths) Allin would reach later."

If I don't like a band name or much of their album artwork, I likely won't add their music to my collection. I prune my iTunes library carefully and I like things to look as pleasing as a cultivated bookshelf might, or (perhaps more relevantly) a wall of vinyl LPs. If I can't find suitable artwork I'll strive to make my own by cropping existing images. In extreme cases I simply won't download/but it and omit it from my library altogether.

I used to think Like a Rolling Stone was by The Rolling Stones, it wasn't until much later that I found out that it was by Bob Dylan. Speaking of, I think he was quite cute during his youth.

I am so picky to put music in my actual music playlist that is on both my phone, pc and an usb stick that after about 5 years of collecting music, i still have only about a few 100's of songs on it...also mixed in the list are sountracks from movies, videogames and even trailers.

Arrested Development's 3 Years, 5 Months, and 2 Days in the Life of... is grossly under appreciated and a phenomenal record that you feel absolutely ridiculous blasting out of your car in 2017.

I enjoy far Robbie Williams songs than I'd ever care to admit.

I can sing every word of Barry Manilow's Copa Cabana and have done so to win bets more than once.

I've human beatboxed onstage with Vanilla Ice. I am inordinately proud of this. This was after "heckling" for his entire set to play "Havin' a Roni."

Sometimes I go to sleep while playing this song on repeat, hoping that it'll make me have a dream about wandering through a thick, foggy forest.

It hasn't worked.

When I was younger, I used to think bands like Alice Cooper and Pink Floyd were actually peoples names. I'm sure there is a few more I can't think of right now but those were the first 2 that popped in my head.

Also, I'd say the majority of my favourite songs are really downing or even depressing. Even if it's not an obviously sad song, many songs still bring that out in me. I used to believe that feeling so low can only make your future feel better (can only go up from here). But maybe, it's more so that feelings of despair is such a strong emotion for me, it's as if I choose to feel that way? I use music to achieve these strong feelings, which I can't easily get elsewhere. It is such a strange concept when you have to put it into words. Damn.

I don't really listen to music a whole lot. The only times I do are usually when I'm relaxed, in the car or playing a game. I also easily get nostalgia from memories around a time I first heard or frequently listened to a song. My saved music list for 2016 can bring back memories of the whole entire year basically. Don't get me wrong I really love music but I kinda have to be in the mood. Yet I add on average 4 songs a week to my playlist. Odd right?

Back when I first heard Amoeba by The Adolescents on THPS3, I thought the chorus chanted "Tony Hawk! Tony Hawk!" It wasn't until a few years later that I realized it was Amoeba! Amoeba!

From what I've seen I think a lot of people had the same idea. ''Oh wow, these guys made Tony his very own theme song for this game, cool!''

When I was in high school I went through a heavy metal phase to fit in with my mates. Iron Maiden, Slipknot etc. I don't know why because I can't stand It now.

I always kinda like to understand the meaning of a song, unless of course in rare cases were the song truelly means nothing.

I'm going to tattoo the lyrics:

Who do you want me to be?

To make you sleep with me?

From the song, Obsession, on my chest some time soon.

I know this is an old topic, so I apologise in advance for bumping it.

I don't like Hit Em Up, I love rap and 2Pac (He's in my top 5) but I just think that song goes too far, I like Biggie's Kick In The Door though, but he doesn't make fun of someone with cancer on that, so it's all good.

EDIT: I like it now.

I like hip-hop, but hate the misogyny within the lyrics. I value artistic freedom and I might be able to turn the other cheek when it's an artist who deliberately strives for controversy, but I still cringe everytime I hear about "hoes", "sluts", etc. I feel a lot of rappers are still stuck in a childlike mindset, but I appreciate their music nontheless, which perhaps makes me a hypocrite idk.

I once had an epiphany while listening to this masterpiece. Also, I always rewind to the 3:30-5:10 mark because of how epic it is.

I don't think it makes you a hypocrite. Music often pushes boundaries. I hear comics like Ricky Gervais talking about his more "controversial" aspects of his stand-up is to bring the audience to the edge of what's kind of acceptable and peak over the line while holding their hand. Kind of making people laugh about things that they otherwise may have thought they couldn't do. But it's in the realm of comedy. Its intention is for laughter or thought.

I think it's the same with music. I mean, when you watch a film like, I don't know, Rambo or something. You're not calling yourself a hypocrite for enjoying the death of potentially innocent people in the film. You're enjoying the film because it's a film. And I get that rappers blur the lines between reality and music but most of it is showmanship. A lot of time it is them assuming a masculine/hardman role in the first person.

I can listen to misogynistic NWA lyrics and not worry too much about that.. But you see, I know that Ice Cube most likely not some misogynist that abuses women. He got married in 1992 and had 4 children with his wife, who he is still married to. That's pretty good going.  I separate the art from reality.

I'll go one step further. It could also be that some girls are nasty too. If for example, Cube is rapping about some "dirty ass hoe" there's a good chance, in his world at that time, there were some actually "dirty ass hoes" hanging about. I mean, it's not like women get a free pass. Women can be nasty, unsavoury individuals just like men. And men can call it out it music if they like. But that's the music. It's controversial. It's something rap about. As opposed to unsavoury characters that are nice. There's a bit of a confliction there when you are doing some reality rap, from the streets, all sorts of characters will be portrayed in vile ways. Women are no exception. For every "misogynistic" rap song, there's a billion love songs fueled by the enamour of the female by the male.  I think the "slut" or "ho" references are to a certain behaviours of the female. Not like it's saying all females are sluts. Just like No Scrubs by TLC isn't about all men being scrubs. It's about a certain type of man that can't provide that cheese

It goes without saying that women are wonderful and equal by all means. But like men, a few of them are skanky-ass hoes.   And I can agree that some rappers, all they have is "sluts, hoes and bling" and if that's all they got, then they're weak rappers. I mean I was listening to some new rap with a friend and it was mumble rap and I didn't hear anything new or anything that was said a million times in last 20 years. Same motives, same themes.

My taste in music is heavily influenced by movie and video game soundtracks.

For example I was never a big Britney Spears fan but after listening to "Gimme More" in GTA V it really grew on me and I searched out some of her other music.

I have a very narrow taste in music with a pretty small library, and I tend to just listen to same couple of artists over and over. I also have a hard time liking happy or upbeat music.
