I'd like to see a 1980's Miami.

I'll take a total redux of Vice City for that.

That'd be nice. It had a good story and setting was really nice ye. Though add Vice City and mix up some new characters and neat gameplay and whoosh. Would play.

I was thinking about this the other day. But then that would cause arguments about this and that. How about early 70s New York?

They could base it on this.

Great movie about a small group of friends trying to make it in the big city. Could work for a game.

Is there really going to be ANOTHER Mafia? I wasn't aware it was even doing well sales wise.

-70's Vegas with Casino vibes.

-80's Miami.

-70's NYC.

Any of those would be cool.

70s new york would be the most fitting for the next mafia in my eyes. It was the new era of mobsters mixed with the classic bosses. The young dudes vs the old. I can see a conflict happening in the game where you could either be loyal to the family (older guys) or loyal to your crew ( young guys ).

Also, Philadelphia mob would be cool but they did take orders from the ny families. They were basically off springs of the ny mob but less powerful

A game set in 1970's Philadelphia with parts of NJ and a bit of a reach but throw in Atlantic City would be awesome.

How about Philadelphia in the early 1980s? During the late 70's/early 80's tons of criminal sh*t happened here in Philly.

1) I'm okay with any setting as long as we go back to the traditional Italian white guys theme.

As much as I liked Lincoln as a character, the game never made me feel like a Mafiosi. And the DLCs completely abandoned "organized crime" as a genre and just became "the adventures of this guy".

2) I don't think there's going to be a Mafia 4 anytime soon...if at all

3) This might seem like a complete contradiction of point 1, but why not a game on the Chinese Mafia? THE TRIADS (or a Yakuza and go Japanese). That could be f*cking awesome.

Something like Sleeping Dogs, but more "serious". Sleeping Dogs was the closest game we ever got to "Triads and GTA".

Yeah but GTA is a satire of the US and the closest thing we'll get is more Chinatown Wars.

In order for a true Triads game, we have to set it in China. I'd much rather the guys who made Mafia 2 make a Triads game. Serious, brutal, with Kung-Fu and gunfights, and a f*cking awesome interweaving crime story.

If Rockstar does it, it'll have a sh*tty story that's over in 12 hours and then a f*ckton of "Online is the future of gaming!" cancer.

Two words: Sleeping Dogs. It was a really damn dope game. In case you are on PS4, you can get the definitive edition in the sale for 6 euros.

Played it back on old gen myself. It did everything right actually. Good story with a lot of insight into the triads and chinese mobsters. Extremely cool combat. Open world with free roam potential. A decent amount of cars. A lot of outfits.

Came across this stunning colourised photo of New Yoik early 1900s. I'd love crime epic à la Once Upon A Time in America or Godfather II's flashback scenes.

I don't particularly trust 2K to provide anything worthwhile outside of a story though.

I'd like another game like the first Mafia, set either in the 20s or 30s, maybe both like Mafia did.

Although I'd be interested in another 40s-50s era Mafia as well. I feel like those time periods were pretty rich with history.

mafia 4 should be set in a gta sa style map with san francisco, los angeles, and las vegas with countryside in between the three citys. the time should be the late 50s. there should alot of empire building like the godfather games. it will be traditional mafia game. they can also make a dlc for it set in the 60s and its about a biker gang kind of like gta 4 the lost and damned.

Yes.  We had a very colorful mob here in the 80s.

Remember the porch bombs?

Back then I lived a couple of blocks from a hospital(Pennsylvania hospital) where a mob guy died as he was trying to drive himself there.  He crashed into the front gates...all dead.  Like a movie.

Thought a lot about this last year, after binge-playing Mafia II - if I were in charge, I'd say a return to New York Empire Bay, in 1985.

Reason being, it's a comparable time jump to those between previous games, and gives Mafia IV a historically-informed setting with the kind of thematic 'meat' as II and III. In fact, I feel that the games got more and more tied to the specifics of history with each title (the original was pretty broad-strokes, II uses WWII as a framing device for Vito's story, while III spins directly out of the Civil Rights era), so I'd go one further, and go even more specific, doing fictionalised versions of the Mafia Commision Trial, John Gotti's coup as Gambino boss, etc.

Similarly, I'd do a bait-and-switch for the protagonist, with a nod to Donnie Brasco - again, I reckon you can argue that the protagonists of each game get further 'out' from the traditional mobster with each sequel (Tommy Angelo = standard mobster biopic stuff, Vito Scaletta = subverted, in that he's perpetually trying to be the fall guy for folks more like Angelo, Lincoln Clay = even more firmly an outsider, with his story framed in opposition to Sal Marcano as the traditional mob figure). So, how about someone who looks like a return to playing as your typical Italian-American gangster, only for a mid-game twist to reveal that ...you're actually an undercover FBI agent (similar to the real-life Joe Pistone).

Come to think of it, it'd allow for another logical returning character from the previous game - II recreated the epilogue from the original game, complete with Tommy Angelo, while III brought back Vito as an underboss (and with a decent coda to his story from II, IMO). You can't really have Lincoln come back without invalidating some of the possible endings from III, and it wouldn't really make all that much sense - but you could have Jonathan Maguire in some capacity, by having him move to Empire Bay following his promotion in 1986 (and, say, putting increased pressure on the protagonist, at the point of the aforementioned twist/reveal). Or something like that...

I doubt they would do a Mafia game where the protagonist isn't a member of some mafia-type organisation (Tommy and Vito were in the Italian mafia, and even Lincoln was a member of the African-American mob,at least for the first few missions). If they do include a biker gang in the game, they would most likely be minor characters, something like the greaser gang in Mafia 2,but they definitely wouldn't be the protagonist's gang.To be honest,I was kinda hoping that Mafia 3 would include some Easy Rider-style chopper riding bikers as part of the late 60s counterculture, and maybe even reference events like the Altamont incident or the earlier Hollister riot, but unfortunately it didn't happen.

On topic,I'd be happy with a game set in the:

-70s New York/Empire Bay (the Italian mob ruled the underworld, there was also the Irish mob which already appeared in Mafia 2, the African-American mob such as Frank Lucas' mob and Nicky Barnes' mob, and with the first wave of Russian immigrants moving to Brighton Beach in the early 70s there was possibly some early Russian mob)

-70s Las Vegas (basically something like the movie Casino)

-80s Miami (they could do a more gritty and serious take on GTA VC,with the Italian mob from New York trying to get involved in the drug trade in Miami)

They could also go back in time to make the:

-20s or 30s New York (basically a prequel to Mafia 2,set in the same time as Mafia 1,they could show how the Empire Bay Italian mob and Irish mob operated during the prohibition and the great depression)

-40s Chicago/Lost Heaven (they could show what happened to the Salieri crime family after the events of Mafia 1)

-40s Los Angeles (as shown in LA Noire,LA underworld was controlled by the Jewish mob led by Mickey Cohen in the late 40s,and earlier by Bugsy Siegel)

I felt like the story in III was good but the gameplay was subpar and repetitive so the game ended up being a mess for me. The writing in the first game was poorer but overall the story was better in my opinion and the setting was great. It would be nice to go back to the Italian mafia thing and do it properly, perhaps in a more modern setting.

id be fine with a mafia game set in 80s miami as long as its about the italian mafia not the columbian drug cartel

mafia 4 should be set in a new universe with a reimagined empire bay thats bigger and is completely based on nyc. it should also be set in the late 60's. it should be like the godfather game were you build and manage your own mafia family. or i would be down for a 1970s las vegas setting or a mafia 1 prequal.

Are we sure Mafia is even getting a 4th game? After 3 I would imagine a reboot will happen.

same but after watching the sopranos i think it should be not just new york city but newark/new jersey. like how gta iv map was but bigger and in the 70s/80s. maybe 1982. id start the protag out in jersey because  jersey mobs were smaller than nyc and then when u get higher in rank than you start working nyc

Probably not. Hangar 13 and Take Two wanted to do Vegas. But the people in charge of Hangar 13 are stoopid.

At first, the plan was to make Mafia IV, set in Vegas during the 1970s. It was an enthralling vision—a video game take on Martin Scorsese’s Casino, set in the glitz and glamor of mob-controlled Sin City. It’s easy to imagine what that might have looked like: fighting enemies on the strip, managing your own casino, putting your character’s name in lights.

Plans for a fourth Mafia didn’t last long. At one point, as two sources recalled, Blackman flew to New York City to meet with Take-Two and 2K higher-ups. He then told the staff of Hangar 13 that he’d been given a choice: They could either develop Mafia IV or start something completely unique, a new intellectual property. He said he’d picked the latter. “The way it was pitched in the big all-hands meeting was: Mafia IV was a great thing, it’s exciting,” said one person who was there. “But we’ve always wanted to do our own IP.”

Then they decided to work on the dumbest sh*t ever

Quote

One of Rhapsody’s proposed mechanics had involved musical cues. Part of the main character’s backstory involved the piano that his parents had bought for him as a child, and one core idea was that the game’s “detective mode” would be triggered by listening to music. At some point, according to everyone I spoke to who was there, Hangar 13’s management decided to extract that idea and make it the focus of their game.

Suddenly, Rhapsody would be an action game fueled by music. Maybe instead of being set in Berlin, it’d be in San Francisco. And maybe instead of playing as a spy, you’d be a superhero. “The concept was using music as a weapon,” said one person on the game. “You could use music to inspire you, channel it into weird effects.”

One person brought up an example that was bounced around at the studio: You’d be listening to, say, Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger.” Press buttons on the controller at the right time, and you’d summon an actual tiger to help you in a fight. Another idea, described to me by a different person on the team, involved taking riffs and song stems from a variety of tracks and combining them all to create different abilities. Hangar 13’s leadership had loved the audio style of Mafia III and wanted a game that was all about music, from Metallica to Miley Cyrus.

Probably for the best. I don't want another Mafia game developed by those guys. They don't understand the series.
