"ERR_GEN_INVALID" when launching game

Whenever I launch the game it says "ERR_GEN_INVALID" and says the following:

Corrupt game data. Please reboot, verify the game data or reinstall the game.

Game version: 1.0.231.0

I have only just verified the game data using -verify at the end of the GTAVLauncher.exe file and it does not say anything is corrupt. The only way the game will load up and let me on is if I install the ASI Loader / OpenIV.asi. Without those the game won't launch. :( I've tried deleting the whole game files and directory and cleanly downloading from the Social Club launcher and yet I still get an error when all files are downloaded. I've used the MD5Checker tool and compared all of the main x64 rpf files and they all say they match each MD5 hash with R*s. I don't know what is wrong with it. :(

Please note that I have no mods installed anymore. I even deleted my "modded" copy of the game as well that was in a separate folder.

Try reinstalling the game entirely, rather than just deleting the game folder. Programs are more than just files - they have registry keys and whatnot too.

steam version do not use registry keys, there suppose to be it's separate thing called API, look up where steam installs info about games and delete that too or uninstall via steam correctly

I'll retry. Thanks.

I don't have the Steam version.

Small hints from the original post lead me to believe they were using the RGSC version.

so apparently there is 3rd pc version as well, digital copy via social club, either way complete uninstall is required

I've finally sorted it. Thank you guys for your help.

I backed up the large files (update, x64, all rpf's files) and copied/pasted them into the parent folder (Rockstar Games) and then did a full uninstall of the game. Ran the GTA V Setup tool downloaded from social club and let it download everything before it started downloading the larger files. Then I moved the backed up ones into the Grand Theft Auto V folder and deleted the .part files. So essentially, I only let the Launcher download the first few following files:

  • ReadMe
  • bink2w64.dll
  • common.rpf
  • d3dcompiler_46.dll
  • d3dcsx_46.dll
  • GFSDK_ShadowLib.win64.dll
  • GFSDK_TXAA.win64.dll
  • GFSDK_TXAA_AlphaResolve.win64.dll
  • GPUPerfAPIDX11-x64.dll
  • GTA5.exe
  • GTAVLauncher.exe
  • NvPmApi.Core.win64.dll
  • PlayGTAV.exe
  • version.txt

that's why DVDs are the best, the disc reader loads files quicker than most peoples download speeds
