Will the gunrunning update ruin GTA Online?

Looking at the vehicles they announced, it looks like sessions will become non-stop warfare. The only good thing I can see is the surface to air missile vehicles leveling the playing field against jet griefers.

It has been non stop warfare since day 1. This is just more variety of warfare.

You saying this like it's already not ruined.

sh*tty economy, trigger-happy players, constant server issues. What game you been playing for the past 3 years?

Yup. Pretty much GTAO since day 1 had a vibe of being in a city under siege, such as Beirut in the 80's.

It never really had this criminals, or robber vibe to it until heists and then only in the actual heists.

The rest of the time it's DayZ without zombies and the apocalypse.

I don't think so, maybe for once people will stop sticking to the city and the countryside will become more populated? Just a thought. :)

The only big risk in my opinion is slow aircraft getting messed over again.

But they already put up with a lot of threats, so what's a few more?

The APC might grief a little, but ... It's just a little killing, let it slide in my opinion.

The war was already started. This update will finish it. The war i'm talking about is of course: the jet griefers.

There will still be just as much grief, it'll just be coming at you from a slightly different angle. It'll be nice to see Hydras getting blown out of the sky but it won't be so nice when you turn around and that same AA gun is pointing at you, even though you're firmly planted on terra firma. There definitely wont be less griefing but let's pray R* have actually tried to balance the new toys with the old for once so it doesn't become a complete grief fest

I suppose it's subjective; there's still plenty of us who don't even bother with populated public servers, so I can't imagine it will change much for our segment of the community unless it happens to remove or break the content we play on a regular basis.

Of course, I used to be quite into racing, but not so much at all anymore; I've pinpointed the wane of my interest around the time 'Cunning Stunts' were released, so I suppose anything is possible, but I doubt that this update will have any effect on anything that I (or many others) do whilst playing the game.

Then again, something unexpected always gets broken during a large update, so yes, it is still possible from that angle as well. We can only hope that it won't be anything significant, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

My mind is pretty much neutral about this update though; I'm neither excited nor full of dread--I'm sure I'll still be doing what I normally do after it is finally released.

No, its hard for me to believe something being pulled behind a pick up truck is gonna be a problem for jets. The heavily armored apc and dune loader pose a different problem for jets mainly the amount of strafes required to take them out. But it hard to say, when we dont know how any of these weapons function.

Like many others have said, it's already ruined. It was doomed from the start. But enough of that, we know this already.

The only reason I'm excited for this update is because of the possibility of new weapons and some cool vehicles.

And btw, if they are just gonna do what they did with Import/Export (copying the CEO stuff and just giving it another name...very original, R*), they should just put this game out of its misery.

Depends on how you define "ruin"

You can't spell ruiner without ruin.

Im looking forward to how the apc will fare in free roam. Will stop me from killing in the jet? lol please, will just have to change my tactics that's all. Probably very terrible jet flyers will cry foul and quit.

So this begs the question: how do you make freeroam less of a war zone without restricting player freedom. I for one would love GTAO to be more MMORPG like with a bigger emphasis on co-operation, but I understand many people like the utter chaos the game is in now, can't please everyone anyway. Actually it may not have lasted so long had it not been for the unrestricted chaos.

OT: no this update wont ruin freeroam. It'll be mad for a day or two but after that you'll be fine.

Low altitude flying will be even more necessary... However in Blaine County I definitely see a problem for the Buzz, let alone slomo Savage... But ok, as it is right now, the main problem isn't extra griefing or anti-griefing tools coming out, nop, the main issue are these low life modmenu griefers....We'll see how it goes within a week or so...

It is literally a game called Grand Theft Auto. You steal car and kill people to progress through the storyline. Should i link the fanchise wiki? What were you expecting.. (wait for it).. tha Sims? For real though, passive and invite only is totally a f*cking thing..

This. Seeing Agent 14 on one of the screenshots made me causciously, sceptically positive, since he was an important part of Heists. If we're going to get more co-op missions, I'll be happy as a kid at a christmas morning. But if it's more public session content similar to everything we already have, I'll probably pass, considering military is not my cup of tea anyway and I honestly don't see myself buying these new armed vehicles. Honestly, I hope there's going to be some extra non-thematic content, like Youga Classic in the Bikers update or Tempesta ( :inlove:) in I/E, just to add some diversity and appeal to everyone and anyone.

That being said, I don't think this update will ruin public sessions - they were ruined since forever, either because of berzerker freeroam warrior tryhards, or cheaters ruining your experience even if you're in passive mode. It's going only to escalate the conflict between jet griefers and ground try hards for few weeks. There's one possibly good thing - there are going to be ways of dealing with Hydras. Either way, people who hate constant warzone in public lobbies will probably have one more good reason to stay in invite only sessions, which is sad. GTA Online updates usually divide people rather than encourage them to play together and socialize.

I just hope this update will bring some non public session co-op activities - maybe not as complex as heists per se, but it'd be extremely nice to have an alternative to CEO/Biker stuff, without anyone else who could ruin the fun all of a sudden with their Hydra or damn mod menu.

Not even mentioning challenges - I'd welcome any side objectives, since last ones were added in Heists. Recent updates lack any reason to continue doing something over and over again, aside from grinding money, which is means, not an end after all.

That's literally his point... In a game called Grand Theft Auto, the themes implied by the title weren't invoked until Heists released. The game didn't feel like a criminal game, it felt like you were in the midst of a civil war. GTA IV MP wasn't like that.

Pretty much this.

Unless the APC would have an automatic explosive canon with unlimited ammo and huge range in combination with insurgent speed and agility and tank armor or something i honestly think this will not break the game even more.

I think the first week or two will probably be Hell on Earth (or rather, just Los Santos) with a wave of players coming in just to mess around with the new stuff. Probably less hackers with the new update as well (although I admit I don't really know if updates stock hackers or not). After the honeymoon period though it'll probably stabilize and return to somewhat-normal warfare levels.

Plenty of lobbies on PS4 that are not over the top crazy warfare. I expect the same after this update drops. Jets are still the most common thing I see, everything else is few and far between (turreted vehicles/armed helis/tanks/ruiners) and if there are, I just keep my distance and never get bothered. It's people that go looking for warzones that usually find them... not hard to avoid the cluster of people constantly killing eachother.

If rockstar was capable to change and buff/nerf the weaponry ingame till things got balanced and just make it that players their cargo should be stolen and not destroyed while just making the vehicles used for transport and the cargo itself non destroyable and then get rid of silly exploits like BST, the overkill of explosives one can have and tge sh*tty ammo option in the interaction menu to name tge most important ones, they pretty much would fix most of the issues in freeroam.

Also if they really would not like to split the fan base they just should implement a "war mode" in which if 2 players are in that mode, if they are fighting eachother they can earn money by losing 500 if they get killed and earn 1000 to 2000 if they kill someone else in "war mode" and losing 2000 if they die without the other player being the cause and losing 10 k if they kill a player that is not in war mode while if a player not in war mode kills a player in war mode, they also would lose 10 k.

And further of course anyone doing pvp freeroam events should be put in that mode, otherwise it becomes really exploitable.

Sadly rockstar only cares about cash cards and is incompetent so this is never gonna happen.

Well helicopters are already deathtraps because of the hominglauncher, same goes for every other vehicle that is not amored. I dont see any way that coukd make the new stuff worse. I mean the new stuff cant make you deader than dead.

I actually expect the new stuff to be balanced or atleast better balanced than the old stuff.

I dont expect the APC to have much more powerfull rockets, instead i expect it to have regular homing rockets (maybe ruiner rockets but thats unlikely imo) but heavy amor to withstand a few direct jet attacks and last longer in a fight.

The Halftrack will probably need a seperate gunner and have a slow firering 30mm cannon that needs about 4-5 hits to destroy a jet again with heavy amor to withstand a few direct attacks.

So i dont expect it to ruin gta online (cant break whats already broken) but i actually expect it to fix some stuff, if it gets implemented correctly.

Nope, it will only make it better just as every update has done.

Still, you guys can keep on hating it, discussing it and playing it, 3 years after release. Mental.
