[VC] HD Font (Custom) BETA

Update: Beta 2

 

+Added foreign characters.

+Added variant for Font 2 with Rage Italic.

+Removed hole in center of star icon. (Let me know which you like better.)

+Slightly resized (Montana) so that the letter "w" wasn't too wide.

 

Font 1: Text (Adidas), Menu (Pricedown - Custom Modified)

Font 2: Written (Montana, Rage Italic)

 

 

How to use the font:

Download the fonts.txd, and replace the one if your Vice City "models" folder. Make a backup beforehand.

 

Known issues:

Bottom of some text (written fonts) are cutoff, I will attempt to fix these before final release.

 

What I'm looking for:

I mostly need help testing the symbols and custom characters i.e. `;:!#$%&*();:|\[]?/-+ etc. especially those that aren't part of the text such as "TM" and the tiny "o" character. It's been a long time since I've played through VC, so I don't recall where certain symbols are used.

 

Update:

Test out these fonts and give feedback, let me know which font you used and if you noticed any problems. I especially need to know where some of the symbols are used, specifically the written fonts "+" and "-".

Looks great man. The only complaint I have is I wish that you used the original font for vehicle and location names. Other than that, i''m still going to use it for my VC. :^:

I've made quite a bit of progress with this, but I've run into a few problems that involve the marginal width for a few of the letters.

 

Does anyone know if it's possible to access and modify the font margin programming of the game?

It could be possible, but not worth the time and effort. It's been some time since I've remade Vice City fonts myself, so I can't remember if I've encountered some issues with margins. Maybe with Rage Italic, but I'd have to double check the files, check the grid and contemplate everything :)

Either way, it's nothing path edit tool in Photoshop wouldn't fix, or even free transform on certain areas. Trust me, no one will notice a minor difference comparing to the source vector font. Especially if you take some liberties before, like with wanted level stars, looking noticeably different than the original ones.

 

One thing I'd like to criticize is this texture you've put on all letters. In my opinion it's too noticeable. You could decrease its transparency a little, so it doesn't distract the viewer instead of just adding some depth. Aside from that, all seems good.

sorry for double posting, but

 

 

 

 

 

Edit Fonts BMP
Loading font1a.bmp or font2a.bmp (512x512).
Clicking the mouse on the character you want, you choose a character in the picture for replacement. In the input box, enter the characters to be replaced.
Button "Y" - the choice of font.
Left and Top - alignment.
Add symboll - add a symbol to replace the selected. (CTRL + A)
Copy - copy to clipboard. (The CTRL + the C)
the Paste - paste from the clipboard. (The CTRL + the V)
the Undo - undo the last change. (The CTRL + the Z)
the Save BMP - save.

Create Fonts.dat
Open font1a.bmp and font2a.bmp (512x512 or 1024x1024), specify the folder in which you want to save Fonts.dat.
Waiting scanning closure.

Thanks for the heads up. I started working on this mod again just recently and found those WOLVE fonts a few days ago.

 

I decided to work on the whole trilogy games, it's turning out pretty well. So check back in a week or two for the release of them.

@djdarko the font is nice, but the txd workshop is going nuts, it keeps on saying not responding, then fixes itself then again.. think its the file size is either too big or idk..my pc is fine..but the font is really nice, love the clear and bold names of areas, and cars' names..is there a way to change the main font color? i mean can it be something else than pink?

Don't use TXD Workshop, use magictxd.

 

I don't think you can change the pink color in vice city, the fonts are white within the file, but the game colors them. It might be possible with an internal mod of the coding.

 

The fonts are still coming, I just got backed up with some other work recently.

P.S. cant say its any better than the simple txd viewer.. It cant open the main source..meaning the gta3.img file..this what brings..

Extract the TXDs, Magic.TXD has no IMG abilities, I understand you like this part of TXDWorkshop but ehhh, it's another area it has problems in the long run which cause issues in-game.

No, MagicTXD is better and let's not start debating here on this topic.

There is no different tabs for alpha channel and non-alpha channel, MAGICTXD auto detects any alpha/transparency related channels and builds the TXD exactly same as the original textures are, TXD Workshop have some bugs related to alpha.
