Have you contacted your Internet Service Provider to ask them for support already?

If you get in touch and basically say that in games you have difficulty connecting and it says NAT type moderate to strict, they may (or may not) guide you through some things you could try - opening certain ports or whatever.

fwiw close port 80, it's not necessary and not desirable.

Well your NAT type being "less than perfect" is an issue with your setup/ internet, not the game.

Contact your internet company.
- i did, they told me i have everything correctly setup.
Contact the people who made your router/ modem.
- why would i contact manufacturer ? O_o what ? why why ?
- if u meant ppl who instaled it - then it was myself
really nothing i could find to change my nat-type so far worked and i might add that i am running servers for other games - so i really know how to open ports for games etc.

Is it causing problems when you play? Your screenshot reports uPNP is working which negates the need to have an "open nat" type afaik. uPNP takes care of opening and forwarding the required ports.

I had same problem and I played around half year with NAT Type 3.Tried everything,I even called ISP few times, but nothing.Until one day, called my ISP and there was a nice guy.I told him everything and he said somethig like this,oh I see your problem(error),after 2-3 minutes of silence he told me,ok now should be fine, restart modem/router and then try.I restart my router and fu*k yeah,NAT Type 2.

OP,call your ISP and tell them everything, tell them to double check everything. If that doesn't work, tell them that you will change your ISP or something.

isp can only change as much as i can on my routerboard - i have public ip and working... so what they can do if its working everywhere else... there is literaly nothing they can do....

uPnP does not negate "open nat type".. If it did, id see nat type open :)...

i have everything (what rockstar support ever suggested) setup correctly and still its not showing "nat type open" - starting to think that noone has ever had "nat type open" in gta5.

In GTA V/ Online, you might be right.

sorry to relaunch this thread, but i had NAT-open!

but tbh, i dont really know how. i cant reactivate it.

because as i looked in the game is was on moderate again.

so i looked up my fritzbox router and everything was like ever.

on fritzbox its a littlebit complicated for UpnP, but i done this.

i looked up everything again on portforward.com and all is good.

how its not open anymore its a big riddle for me.

LOL; unbelieveabl. I just get it to Open again!
BUT, you must do your PC really naked in the network.
I opened all Ports in my Router and deactivated the Firewall.

Ok, i just closed the Firewall again after, and it was still open,
and even i closed all "unnessary ports" again it was open.
maybe its not open anymore, when i restart my pc. dunno.

but, its possible, but i wouldnt to it...

The easiest way to get an open NAT Type is to use DMZ or Exposed Host or whatever it`s called in the router.

It is relatively easy to set it up. You only have to manually set a local IP adress and don`t use DHCP and then enter the IP adress into the DMZ or Exposed Host or whatever it`s called. This way the firewall is turned off sadly but you have a open NAT Type. But the good thing is after you played you can just deactivate DMZ or Exposed Host with one click and your safe again and only the client that is behind this local ip adress is affected by it.

Here an example that`s how my settings look like. In german but yeah your german too so. :D

This archived MS KB article has some details on which ports need to be connectable for the NAT to be reported as open on the Xbox: http://web.archive.org/web/20120207225738/http://support.microsoft.com/kb/979000

Specifically, it's 3074 TCP and UDP, while other sources also mention 5060 and 5061 UDP. You could try forwarding these first to your PC directly, bypassing UPnP, or checking the UPnP status as maybe they're allocated to something else already (such as another PC in the same masqueraded zone), in which case you would be prevented from using them.

If it still doesn't change to Open afterwards, then the KB article also mentions other ports, namely:

  • 88 UDP
  • 80 TCP
  • 53 TCP and UDP

Port numbers < 1024 are by convention privileged and unavailable for UPnP unless the configuration is changed manually. Also, the latter two are well-known assigned port numbers for HTTP and DNS respectively, and might be blocked by your ISP if you are on a consumer connection; you can check with an external port scan if this is the case.

All of the above is based on the assumption that GTA uses MS's classification for the NAT; otherwise, it can mean something else altogether. For example on PlayStation, I think you can never have the best category connection if your IP address is from one of the private ranges (10/8, 172.16/12 or 192.168/16).

You definitely want to avoid being put in the Strict category, as then you can't connect to other Strict players directly, which introduces lag but the difference between Open and Moderate should be unnoticeable in practice. On a slow connection it might actually impact performance negatively as you will be passing more traffic for other players. In other words, I'd just leave it the way it is if I were you; in any case, I'd definitely not recommend exposing a Windows PC to the Internet without a firewall just to change from Moderate to Open.

Please don't put your PC in a DMZ unless you really, really know what you're doing. uPNP should be your first approach, then port-forwarding on your router.

Console too, mostly.
