GTA IV is better by a mile for me. I don't think Mafia II was bad game, but the fact it was heavily cut and very short, resulted in very dissapointing experience. Add-ons released later helped this situation a bit, but the fact we had to pay for the elements that should be initial release wasn't very good for the player's experience.

GTA V (5) (Five) (Cinco)

These both suck by miles. True Crime LA is better than them.

GTA V (5) (Five) (Quatro)

Five in Spanish is actually cinco. "Quatro" (actually spelt cuatro) is four.

Also this ain't a thread about V, you could have reserved that post for something else.

Both games are good on their own, but Mafia II was very short and dissapointing in some aspects. I feel like Mafia's driving mechanics were even better than IV's (I like IV's driving mechanics if you wonder) and the game had some cool details like being able to lose your hubcaps, or charging fuel (even though it didn't work properly, if you ran out of fuel the car didn't stop at all). Shame that 90% of the game was cut when Take Two bought the studio, and replaced it will dull stuff like the Playboy collectibles.

Did you see the frightened ones? Did you hear the falling bombs? Did you ever wonder...

...why we had to run for shelter when the promise of a brave new world unfurled beneath a clear blue sky?

I liked Mafia II for its atmosphere, music, tone etc, but it doesn't compare to GTA IV as an open world game.

Apart from Vito and Joe the characters are pretty forgettable too IMO. I will say one thing though I would rather play Mafia II than it's disappointing successor.

I'm just fed up with the same threads all over again. Should have "ultimate fights" in gaming chat instead.

GTA IV would surely win, more money in it to stock up in ammo/food/clothing, Mafia 2 is very limited. Both have great stories but that's my decision.

It depends

GTA IV has the better more lively open world with a wider array of things to do.Mafia II feels more linear. the narrative is longer in IV but it's not as focused as Mafia II and has more plotholes here and there but the script as in the dialouge & voice acting is far suprioer in IV and the characters are just much more diverse unique & memorable.

I honestly love both and I have played through both mulitple times but IV is the better overall open world experience. but Mafia II is a short but stellar gem.

Imo Gta 4 has better music, atmosphere, tone, and etc than to Mafia 2,but they both still are amazing games and also far better than there succesors.

IMO Gta 4 is better than Mafia 2,yet they are realy similar when you think about it.

Both protagonists fought in the war.

They both got welcomed into America by there fat best friend/cousin.

They both wear similar leather jackets.

(Spoiler alert)

There best friend dies in the end(although there are hints that Joe is still alive in Mafia 3).

Both games are better than there succesors.

Mafia II is a great game but.. come on... Mafia: TCOLH is a classic game and is one of the best games every created, along with GTA IV.
