chronic lumbago
That trailer and map above have finally got me stoked. Now the wait for the car list.Exactlly my thoughts. I promised myself a long time ago never to get hyped again for NFS games but now catching up on the recent info and footage really makes it tough. This looks like it could be the greatest NFS game yet, nostalgia aside. Even the soundtrack in the newest trailer screams need for speed more than the complete 2015 tracklist combined (yuck). I don't want 300+ cars, but it should be at least 70+ unique rides. Like mentioned before, I also love the Carbon gang structure being brought back. It's not the blacklist but it's something. Hopefully each crew behaves differently during races. I hope they completely nail this game. All I want is to play a great need for speed game again. Payback seems to head into the right direction. einjzmolf
The current car list sits at 70 total. Keep in mind that there are 2 Corvettes, a few generations of Mustang, etc. at the moment, so it's not quite 70 unique cars like you said, but the volume is there even if the car list were final. Which I hope it isn't.
We Are Ninja
Eh. I'm moderately stoked. I was stoked about the 2015 trailer too, though. Especially after that trailer with the Rocket Bunny FRS...
DOUGL4S1
The game does look like an overall improvement. The custmization still looks like it could use some work tho, it looks a lot like 2015s. The physics are hard to tell without playing, but it does look improved. einjzmolf
This guy broke my hype meter when this was posted. Totally skewed my expectations. I've learned to love 2015 despite its flaws. It hasn't swayed me from giving this a chance, especially considering they actually improved the game until they were essentially told not to. This looks like a solid upgrade. We Are Ninja
2015 wasn't a "bad" game, there were just some unfortunate design choices... The "always online" concept can die in a fire. Snowboarding games (I'm looking you in the eye, Steep) and racing games have no business requiring that you be online in order to play. No game with a single-player campaign, honestly. Playing with others is cool, but sometimes I want to immerse myself in the game world, not the toxic, cancerous online gaming world. The "always night time" thing kinda made sense, a little bit, but it felt unnatural. The fact that the brief sunrise/sunset times in the game were absolutely gorgeous drove this point home. I didn't necessarily want to race at high noon, but the option to choose/change the time of day or night would have been fantastic. Not only was it always dark and dreary, the city was also completely dead. Completely dead. Walking Dead dead. With the exception of driver-less cars, the city itelf was eerily devoid of any sign of human life. It was hella creepy. It always felt like the Langoliers were gonna show up at any moment and eat the game world. The cutscenes/characters were hyper-cheesy cliches, but it wouldn't be NFS without hyper-cheesy cliched action and characters, so... The physics never felt right. The grip/drift slider was a real head-scratcher. Full grip was understeer city, and full drift was donut city. Anywhere in the middle gave you some weird combination of both. The physics (and trying to adjust the car to make it behave like an actual car) was the game the reason never clicked for me. Oh, and the fact that there was no way in Hell that I should be struggling to chase down a chick in a 240 (unless it's swapped and/or modded to the gills) when I'm driving a fully modded M4. M4s make 425 bone stock... There are levels to this ish, yo. And the rubber-banding was atrocious. Audi, DOUGL4S1, V4S and 6 others
einjzmolf
You hit pretty much every nail on the head. The rubberbanding was so broken on that "Component Parts" race you're referencing that they actually patched it at one point. It was a feather in your cap if you beat that race pre-patch. Ridiculous. The traffic was a joke. Didn't even follow the lanes, totally blind. And there were never more than like, 3 cars on your screen. The weather definitely was a shame. Even if there was just.. less rain.. it would've been nicer. Larger areas with dusk/dawn would've helped aswell. I find myself travelling to a select few locations just to get proper lighting for photos. Thank goodness for a day/night cycle in Payback, the photo opportunities will be near endless now. I've figured out that having grippy front tires and VERY narrow steering angle, the most I'll go with is stock, fixes alot of the crab walky unpredictable nature of most cars. That looks fixed in Payback though, and people that have played it have said so aswell. I'd love to see some uncut gameplay of Payback now. chronic lumbago
The day/night mechanic in 2015 was fixed to certain areas of the game as far as I know. There was just one area in the game that had daytime. The story was okay. No NFS game will ever win an oscar but the characters were likeable and making it to the top was just enough to keep me going. I had two major issues with the story. - monster energy. We get it EA, you advertize monster but showing it 20 times during cutscenes is overkill. - the antagonists. So disappointing. All this game you want to challenge those bastards then they appear in two cutscenes and don't even have annything interesting to say. I think one of them didn't even say anything at all. It's a kind of strange decision on their part, but I'm still really excited to get the game! Maybe it's to get more car brands to buy into the game like Honda, who normally don't like their cars to be associated with street racing involving cops. Who knows lol. einjzmolf, Ivan1997GTA and Actlikeyouknow
einjzmolf
That could be a reason. I personally believe that it's because of how pathetic the AI was at 'natural' pursuits. There are multiple benefits to the way they're implementing them now - such as starting a pursuit with a "3 Heat Level" or whatever the equivalent is in this game. Totally removes the terrible first 10 minutes of a pursuit in NFS 2015. There's also the opportunity for them to add leaderboards for pursuits again. Making police chases an achievement hunter type deal. I'm sure there's more but I quite frankly don't care about police pursuits, those are just the 2 first benefits that come to mind. I hope that those "bait crates" can be used indefinitely. That kinda remnds me of the defunct Need for Speed: World, when they patched the game in 2012 so that no police cars show up on the map, and free roam pursuits are activated via a seperate event. owl-man
Ehhhh, that was my least favorite part about World, there's almost no pursuit variety because you would lose them around the next corner, with only a few places to begin the event in the first place. Landotel
I never liked NFS Rivals cops, I felt like it was okay, but sometimes it gets annoying. Cops would be cool in Open world mode if they made it similar to Midnight Club LA. For example, there's specific speed limits in certain areas of the map, you can only go that amount of speed in around the area until the cop is no longer there. Just a suggestion as I did enjoy MCLA's cop system as of today, iit is still unique in a racing game. Maybe NFS' developers or some modder could do something similar to that. Nevertheless the game is going to be exiting to play despite NFS 2015 being meh to me. Ivan1997GTA

We Are Ninja
So it seems the game will be actually full of scripted mission and cinematic scenes now and then. Honestly, I hope the story is short, so I can get off from these cinematic scripted movie-game bullcrap as soon as possible and get to the real juice of the game. I can't lie. The way that Mustang moves looks very NFS2105-esque. Like the car model is rotating around it's center-point (or something) at times... Like old-school Codemasters games. I'm not convinced that the last game's handling demons have been exorcised... Ivan1997GTA and SchizNitz
