RDR2 shifting another million copies is surprising to me, I guess the PC version probably still has some legs as it's been going on sale a lot this past year. Kinda both insane and sad to me that a game that includes an online GaaS component that can still shift 1 mil copies in a quarter 3 years after release feels so abandoned by it's developer cause they have an even bigger (and much older) game they'd rather support. I wonder how things will go once the trilogy is released, seems like it's being well received by most of the GTA communities. I personally think they went f*cking nuts with the pricetag for a early 2000s game that won't even have a online multiplayer component, but the good sentiments around it leads me to believe that this game could be a home run for what it is. Too late EA you ignored boxing for too long now that ESBC is around the corner you decide to hop back into the ring. ESBC is gonna have a stacked Roster unless EA starts being EA again and does some shady sh*t again or maybe they decide to buy out Steel City interactive and rebrand ESBC into fight night. They are only about profitability for shareholders not about making user-centric experiences. Saying Take 2 would be a good company for acquiring IP's is like taking a really good creative idea and throwing it to a bunch of sweaty fat-cats so they can plunder as much profit from it as they can without a care to the end user. They are a cancer company. But, if you are talking not as gamer but as a capitalist or shareholder, then T2 acquiring WB games would probably be good for your wallet. Certainly not the gamer. Jason Posted November 18, 2021 Share Posted November 18, 2021 When you take console warring away, there's really no long term upsides for gamers with the insane amount of game studios being bought up right now. One that goes under the radar a lot is Embracer who own frankly an absurd amount of studios now and I read the other day they've acquired about 45 in the past 12 months and expect to acquire a similar amount over the next 12 months. Forty five! They're not all AAA studios but buying up indie studios is very worrying given that's where so much creativity and innovation comes from. There are some silver linings, being acquired by MS or Sony is on the surface an okay thing right now for gamers, Sony are putting out great games by giving teams the time and resources they need and Microsoft are starting to put out great games and their 1st party stuff all goes to Games Pass which is great value for customers and the Games Pass model seems to allow some of the more niche or risky ideas to get the greenlight when in the past they wouldn't, but given that the acquisitions don't seem to be stopping for any major publisher there are limits to how much of this is an "okay" thing. NM was bought by Zynga in 2014, Rockstar have been using NM's tech since GTA IV, now T2 buys Zynga which means they own NaturalMotion and all of their assets. Looks like they intend to keep the mobile cash cow separate from the rest, it might be their way of mitigating gaps between their core AAA games from their core studios, and might be a good sign they don't wanna meddle with their core studios too much in terms of monetisation and "experiments", leaving that for the ever-profitable mobile division.
