All jokes aside though, as someone who flies twice weekly (or used to, at least) the new 787 and A350 are much more comfortable than the aging 747 and A380 fleets but it saddens me to think I won't be walking past a massive double decker at HKG or DXB in the future. Just looking at one face to face from the terminal fills me with awe that something so big can even get off the ground. 

I haven't flown on a 787 or A350. How are they more comfortable? Do you mean the seats for example provide better support etc simply because they're newer aircraft? I would have thought that an A350 or 787 would be more cramped to fly on in comparison to a much larger plane like the Airbus A380? 

 

Although, I suppose its not all about leg room nowadays. I presume the A350 & 787 have more modern perks & tech so to speak, simply because they're much newer & that would outclass the A380 in some respects.

I've flown on the A350s, I don't think they're particularly more spacious than the A380s but they're definitely much better packaged so they give the illusion or feeling of more space. They're also much quieter and more comfortable- huge leaps have been made in reducing cabin NVH and the like between the release of the A350 and A380.

Hopefully, I'll fly on the A350 or 787 one day (If I ever go anywhere long haul that is). Its unlikely that the A350 is used currently for short hops (737's, A320's & Embraer's for those).

Quite a few carriers use A350s for short haul hops when they're running connections for long distance flights. I've flown Finnair from London to Helsinki on A350s several times now; these typically fly on to Japan, Thailand, China or Malaysia from Helsinki with a ~2h connection time. They actually represent a very cost effective way of getting to the Far East from the UK.

Very rare and interesting surprise with this Antonov An-74T (Антонов Ан-74Т ) UR-74010 from Antonov Design Bureau taxi (close up with incredible sound) and take off, runway 12 Manises Valencia Airport (VLC) with ATC audio included  September 2 2020 (my first video of this aircraft)

Antonov An124-100 from the Volga Dnepr company (UR-82074) took off for Marseille on runway 10 at Alicante Elche Airport (ALC), which was parked for more than a month at said airport, with the presence of a large enthusiastic public who came to witness its takeoff...

I’ve always wondered why there’s no such thing as a superplane or sportsplane. When a rich person wants a personal private aircraft, their choices are basically all piddly little flat 4 powered kites. Surely there has to be a market for the aircraft equivalent to a Lamborghini; i.e., big high-horsepower V12 with a top speed north of 400 knots. There HAS to be a market for modernised interpretations of a WW2 fighters with even more power and performance.

I'd point to executive transports, particularly those geared for single-crew flight, as the highest performance planes that people on PPLs can get behind the control column of.

Stuff like the Piaggio Avanti Evo along with the smaller twinjet business jet type aircraft.

Oh, and I suppose the handful of "very light jet" aircraft such as the Cirrus Vision SF50 which push 300+kt

Four Military Helicopters from the French Army has come  (May 21  2021) to Manises Valencia Airport (VLC) 2 EC665 "Tigre" (BJY) & 2 NH90 TTH "Caiman" (EBM) , in the video landing and taxi with ATC audio included by runway 12  big surprise!
