Professional Amateur
Also guys, what do you think about this fighter jet? -snip- The Harrier? Absolute gas guzzler thanks to the VTOL layout, but a fairly successful fighter-bomber aircraft, even though the AV-8A/B variants had a reputation for being quite dangerous to their pilots. It must be absolutely stunning to see them at airshows. Alongside its party trick, it's quite a good looking aircraft too. Professional Amateur
Amazes how close you were able to get you couldn't get within 1,000 yards of the fence at airports here in the U.S Really? I haven't been to an international airport for a while so I don't know the Australian rules regarding safe distances from the fence. At regional airports however, I've seen plenty of people standing right up near the fence, even at airshows where jets like Sabres, L-39s and Hornets are on the flight line. It must've gotten a bit warmer when the F-18s went full afterburner for takeoff! alkaline_, Handsome Jack and V4S

Straypuft
Missed out on getting to see my first A346 today, Had I had the bus fare and a good amount of time notice, I could have made it the estimated 2-3 hours to get to the airport. So this week my hometown had 2 rare heavy metal from Virgin Atlantic, Not saying that they are rare in the world, but to Cleveland, anything international and heavy is rare there. The visitors were a 787 and an A346 in town to take the local NFL team to London.
Outcast
First time in an A350 today. I'd like to say nice things about it but it's not really anything special from a PAX pov. I'd say the 787 is more obvious with the cabin upgrades. I do like the new shape of the cockpit windows though, makes the A350 look like a big raccoon. My experience was also marred by the fact that my second leg was delayed by about 5 hours and I missed all the ground connections at my destination as we landed around midnight and everything had stopped. Ended up having to take a 170km Uber. The airline can expect a strongly worded email from me in the coming days.
DOUGL4S1
So, Boeing announced their plans to buy Embraer for $3.7 Billion, in retaliation to Airbus buying over half of Bombardier. However, the Brazilian government has control over most of Embraer that still makes planes for the Brazilian Airforce, so now we can only wait to see if they will reach an agreement, one of them will back down or the government will step in. KM964
Some recent spottings between DFW and DAL. Two of the biggest airlines in the world are headquartered here, American and Southwest, so each of their main hubs are here; American at DFW and Southwest at DAL. So we get to see a fair amount of special liveries from each. N838AW America West. N917NN AirCal. N916NN Reno Air. N945WN Florida One. N781WN New Mexico One. UPS usually doesn't send 747s down here, so it was a special treat. Other shots. ~Tiger~ and uNi

Straypuft
Went to the Cleveland Air Show back on Saturday, fun times were had, came back with my worst every sunburn, but no regrets. Then on Sunday I had a chance to fly in a Vietnam UH-1 Huey MY friend and I are heavy and they stuck us in the door gunner seat, during some banking turns where I could look straight down below the chopper, all that was keeping me in was a lap belt. antiguogrumete
Not only motorcycles can have hot wheels, this Russian cargo plane Antonov 124-100 proves that a plane can also emulate a motorcycle and make sparks from one of its wheels as you can see in the video before taking off, really spectacular! Outcast
AN-124 always looks small next to the AN-225, but I've seen a 124 in person and my goodness it's big, I'd say it's comparable to a 747 or A380 so it's hard to imagine how much bigger a 225 would be! ~Tiger~
As airlines struggle financially due to the Covid pandemic, British Airways retires it's Boeing 747 fleet and more and more airlines mothball their Airbus A380s; I fear that we may never see this big boy fly again...? Outcast
I'm actually really sad that airlines are retiring their 747s and A380s. Of course we've still got the 777s, 787s, A330s, and A350s but there's just something about losing double deckers that makes me sad. Sort of like when airlines started retiring their A340 fleets, now it's all just twinjets. ~Tiger~
~Tiger~
2 minutes ago, Outcast said: it's all just twinjets. Yes, the Dreamliner can achieve distance and passenger numbers with a much lower fuel burn so the A380 was already doomed. Orders were cancelled and production of new craft was ceased and now the CV19 situation really is the final nail in the coffin for those magnificent flying machines... *gta star*
Such a shame to see the 747's & A380's retiring. I hope one day that the double decker planes will return, but be more fuel efficient so they're a viable option for airlines to purchase
Outcast
I mean if we were to continue with wishful thinking why stop at double deckers? Bring back the Concorde! All jokes aside though, as someone who flies twice weekly (or used to, at least) the new 787 and A350 are much more comfortable than the aging 747 and A380 fleets but it saddens me to think I won't be walking past a massive double decker at HKG or DXB in the future. Just looking at one face to face from the terminal fills me with awe that something so big can even get off the ground.
