malcolm_tucker
I was watching Broughy's podcast thing yesterday and they touched upon an interesting point I hadn't really thought about before; You can only make about $200k/hr at most grinding legitimately, and you can buy $500k for £6 (UK). UK minimum wage is £7.20/hr so grinding irl and buying shark cards will earn you twice as much as grinding in-game. You need to earn $500k/hr+ before it starts to make sense. It's a stupid dilemma that's really made me question what I'm doing, I grind a fair bit but I've also spent about £50 on shark cards. Grinding isn't fun, but at the same time, shark cards are too expensive (even if it works out 'cheaper' time-wise) and I'm currently on sick-leave with an injured back so I don't have the luxury of picking overtime hours to fund my GTA lifestyle. Personally I would much rather work for an hour than grind doing something I don't enjoy for an hour. So what does everyone else think? Grind until you've got a headache and your fed up whilst sticking it to R* for their extortionate prices, or, don't be such a lazy prick, get out and help your employers business, help the economy grow, get some fresh air, do the normal things that humans should do, all the while pandering to R*'s sh*t and throwing all your money down the drain? Jimbatron
My logic is I enjoy the game. I like Heists, CEO and Biker stuff for their own sake. I just happen to like the GTA $s they give me to buy stuff in game. If I didn't enjoy the game play, I wouldn't buy Shark Cards, I'd stop playing the game! I agree economically on my real life salary, it's not worth me grinding for GTA $s, but for me it's not a grind, it's fun. Alec Skorpio
Honestly, I tend to have enough money as long as I get about 100k a day. I can play for a good hour on any mode and get around that no problem. (or these days pull it off with Import/Export in a span of about a half hour solo)Only time I ever buy a shark card is if it is during one of those promotions where you get double the cash, and even then I've only done it once, used my work credit card reward points on it and then just bought a yacht. If I really REALLY wanted something, I'd buy a shark card again. But I really don't think I'll ever need that much cash that quickly like I did when the yachts came out. deadx23
If you have hours upon hours of free time to play the same jobs over and over, grinding is the way. If you have money to burn, buy all you need. VulcanFanatic
I wish working for a living was as easy as grinding on GTA. The rewards are becoming rich on GTA,being able to have everything you want and have a feeling of accomplishment that you have achieved something. Yes, you could buy shark cards, but you don't get rp that way that shows others that you have been at this awhile when they see your level, assuming your level isn't modded. Dock
I dont think it matters to be honest. If you have fun, i.e. enjoy playing the game, however it is you fund your character, then its fine. There will* always be positives and negatives to both sides of the fight. I personally have no stand on the issue. For those who grind, you're missing out if you're not doing the pacific standard finale repeat trick, thats all I have to say. Beat the odds of the 200k/hr by a large margin with that. CarimboHanky
i dont grind, i play for fun and somehow still end up with over 2million every week... is grinding worth it? maybe is buying cashcard worth it? not to me but hey to each their own, the reality is that with over a 70 weeks of 2X events, i dont see how/why people still struggle to get money. -KM- and dieseltech20
IamCourtney
It all depends what you mean by "grinding." When I say I'm grinding, I mean I'm playing with maximum efficiency in mind, trying to wring every dollar possible out of every minute. I enjoy this playstyle sometimes, other times I'm not in the mood and so do not grind. However, when some people say "grinding" they seem to mean gritting their teeth and playing a way they don't enjoy for longer than they want to and all I can say in this case is that its NEVER worth it. Buy a Shark Card if you feel the value is worthwhile or do something else because life is too short to let yourself turn a videogame into toil. idonknowhow, Semaj 2JZ♢ and Yinepi
Sagrawa
Kinda depends on what you enjoy doing in game, how good you're at it, how much time you play, and in the end if that is enough to buy all the stuff you want to have. I enjoy most parts of the game and make about $120k per hour whilst just having fun, and play enough hours to be able to buy everything I want. If you like playing all the good money-making stuff over and over again, you will never be in need of extra money. If you like to only race a lot and have a nice vehicle collection, for example, a shark card is a very valid option if you don't play 20 hours a week and win every race. Simply put: If you don't have enough money ig to buy the stuff you want and it feels like grinding to get it, buy a shark card.
DarkSavageDeathlyCloud
Yea, but as extra con you are giving real money to what i currently consider the second most sh*tty gaming company at the moment i ever bought games off, with nr1 being konami for being responsible for a lot of stupid sh*t ! Semaj 2JZ♢
Can I ask why you feel the need to buy everything the game has to offer or have enough money to buy it all? Why can't you be satisfied with the affordable things or just whatever? For everyone with the OP's mindset; Stop with the ego, the circle jerk and the keeping up with the Jones'. Play the damn game! If you aren't enjoying it, then stop playing. It's literally simpler than salt. *edit: With being a CEO/VIP work like HH, and a VW, sourcing only high end cars, it's possible to make 300k+/hour, solo. unicornace
This is actually an interesting topic, gotta say though the money you earn through the day irl in work is worth more than the $ or £ it actually is due to the fact that it covers rent and daily living expenses. On topic I'm a day one player so bought the game twice as many of us have but I've also got more play out of this that any other game by a wide margin. I've lived the grind now and again and also bought a shark card ...the 7 mil one. I did it because I felt that the forever evil rockstar had earnt it content wise. It does make me wonder what the hell they're going to introduce for the rdr multiplayer, could you even spend 7 mil in the old west? malcolm_tucker
JuniorChubb
Are you over 18? Decide how you spend your money. Don't let anyone tell you how to spend money. Couldn't have put it better myself, but I'll try to add to it... If money is not an issue by them cards, for some people (myself included) spending £10 for 1.25million GTA dollars is a waste of hard earned money, however if I earn't 4 or 5 times as much as I do I would gladly chuck some money away for Shark Cards and spent the grinding time doing what I wanted to do in Los Santos rather than what I needed to do. Lonely-Martin
It's only grinding if you don't enjoy the jobs, have a limited imagination, or no crew/friends to help maximise the benefits... With all that at hand, and time to play, 'the world is our oyster'... So they say... Of course, shark cards are a great way to allow the more casual player to enjoy everything in GTA, but for me personally, being surrounded by like-minded, having more time to play, and flexibility across the game as a whole, I vary everything around, I like to help low levels get that first couple of mil, and in turn, obviously, I get paid too. Along the way, I learn so much, I meet so many characters in this game, that, for me, just never gets boring... As soon as something does get over-played, I move on to other things, or with some new guys added to the mix. Just by enjoying this game with some enthusiasm can be more than enough, with common sense to attack favoured jobs that have 2x cash/RP too, then it just seems to fall into place... With respect to your response to another, saying you can't do what you want, like CEO without grinding first... I must disagree... From rank 1... Join races/contact missions, until rank 12, by which you'll earn at least $250k... Buy heist Apt. $200k... Heist through the board, add good heisters from here/in game along the way... Complete only your heists, in order, if possible, with the same team... The earnings, plus bonuses, up to 12.6m in bonuses for good, consistent teams... A very good start, granted, tricky for some to expect $10m Criminal Mastermind bonus early with little experience, but the other $2.6m is enough for an Office, Small w/h, vehicle w/h, and that's before you've repeat played a single job... Xiled
I miss making $234,000 and hour from coveted. I made my millions way back before they nerfed the payouts and completely changed coveted even though those were actually legit money makers. There are more ways to make money now but they are time consuming and require a lot of money to "invest". Wish we had a mission creator so I could remake the original coveted. I would rather play the original coveted with the $18,000 payout instead of the new stiff in freemode. At least missions only are $200 to start vs spending a mission payout to buy crates. But being in a hurry doesn't make any sense. If you enjoy playing the game, then in time, you will make the money you need to slowly add those things. Buying them spread out allows you to appreciate the things that you acquire. If you don't enjoy the game enough to play it "that much," then do you really care to have those things anyway? You are acquiring the same sh*t everyone else has, and no one is impressed. Take if from someone who has just about everything in the game--no matter the item, after a few hours of playing with it, the novelty wears off (this is why rich people IRL become bored quickly too). And I would argue you appreciate things that you acquire over time and at a cost of some other items just a bit more. I know this is not the GTA way. It should be.
