1) It's peer to peer and has only matchmaking and game save servers. Probably not many machines at all.

2) When player numbers drop and exsisting servers are upgraded the whole thing can run on one dusty old box in Rockstars basement, just like GTA IV is.

When GTA Online shuts down, they'll finally port everything over to single player and be all "Here's the single player DLC we promised you"

Hell I'll take it. Been wanting all the gtao content on single players for years!

 

I would much rather play Gta5 with all the GtaO content added then literally all of that content getting thrown away with the servers.

I spent $200 on shark cards over the 5 years. Damn thats 2 to 4 games i could have bought. Oh well at least I made good memories with friends and crew and had fun!

Well in a realistic situation Rockstar would have to announce it 1 month before shutdown (legal reasons) + they'd put loads of sh*t on the newswire. In that scenario I'd be shocked to find out that the game will shut down and I'll dedicate all my video game time to GTA Online for these next 30 days. Do big events with friends, take a lot of snapmatics, save 'em on my hardrive to remember and enjoy the virtual sunsets before they pull the plug.

 

The pictures which will remind the most of GTA will probably be the ones I took with my friends:

 

 

 

 

 

Other scenario like OP described it:

If the servers were just going offline without any annoucement I'd just think R* got DDossed or there's a maintenance. Since that would be the only logical explanation.

With no announcement preceding it, I'd be a bit confused, but once I realize that the servers are gone, I probably wouldn't care all that much.

The game has gone on longer than most, and none of its issues have ever been fixed unless they allow the players in said game to make additional in-game currency. I'd argue that it was a maybe decent time overall, and would probably go back to living without it.

I imagine I'd feel a slight pang of sadness once I realize I can't jump in to drive my Dominator anymore, since it was the first car I picked up back when the online dropped, but overall, I'd get over it.

Legal reasons?, can you cite the statue that defines these "legal reasons" ?, where was this law enacted at?, is this a world wide law?, or is it only enforceable in one jurisdiction and or country?. What are the current penalty's for breaking this law ?
