You can install a 2TB hard drive inside the PS4 yes but the easiest way is just to plug an external drive up to 8TB in via the front USB prot and it will allow you to copy all the pictures and video's off.

 

I do this on a monthly basis for my games so that I don't encounter any storage capacity issues, esp with PS5 since it has the smaller disc drive and can't install a bigger one yet.

Is it me or is the PS4 gone to sh*t since the 5 released? My console crashes a lot lately and I don't remember it being so unstable years ago... Mine is only a few months old, slim 1TB. Version.

I hooked up mine for the first time since I got my PS5 back in November and it’s been fine.

 

The only difference is man it’s noticeable after you’ve been playing a PS5 with how smooth the transitions between screens going back to a PS4 which feels clunky and laggy. Oh and those download times lol.

 

Still love my PS4 though.

PS4 is a lot slower of late, I don't have mine crash very often but trying to switch to the PS4 interface from games is very slow and unresponsive some times.

 

Messages can also be quite slow to update but otherwise the system is still working but I think there is definitely more priority towards 'PS5' by that I means terms of internet speeds etc for the PS4.

 

I have both consoles in the same room at 100% signal strength and the PS5 easily manages to top 100/kb's a second where's the PS4 is a mere 22 kb/s. It's probably to do with the network cards installed in the machines being

older models so not able to cope with modern speeds I think.

I use the PS app to send message most times because the lag is so bad. I only have four games downloaded and mostly play off PS now where I have little to no issues. The problems seem to stem from games that are downloaded. Cold war crashes the most ( 2/10 times) and causes the most slow down. GTA crashes too if I play any of the arcade games. The only other games I have downloaded are Destiny 2 and RDR2 but later is licenced from PS Now and runs for the most fairly smooth. D2 has only blue screened once since I have had this console.

 

Last night other than slow down in menus it was the first time I had a complete freeze after a host left in CW zombies. I let my console sit for ten minutes before I had to pull the plug to restart it. No other way would shut it off and it was really abnormally hot I noticed. I have a friend who has had a lot of overheating issues with his. Makes me wonder if it something Sony is doing to brick last gen. I know apple and other big tech companies do planned obsolescence.

That is a game I have issues with even on PS5 but I know all the points you describe as have experienced most of them myself bar the console actually crashing, the issue is with the game itself not the PS4 console.

 

My fan makes so much noise when I ran the game on PS4 it sounded like it was going to explode! It was so bad once my friend I was playing with actually had to ask Is your PS4 OK?

 

Thankfully I stopped playing GTA Online but will keep that in mind should I ever return I must play it on the PS5.

Damn! It's been a long long time!!

 

I remember lurking on this thread in 2013, after just having my PS3. I was waiting for news about the PS4, how it would look like, perform, etc.

 

I sold my PS4 a few weeks ago to save space and money for the PS5. Damn! I had lots of good memories with that console. My PS4 never ever broke on me (whereas I had to replace my PS3's hard drive a couple times), except when I accidentally corrupted my external hard drive and had to redownload.

My PS4 has always been like a tank. When I moved a couple of years ago where it was, was covered in so much dust I didn’t see I have no idea how it was still operating.

 

Never had any hardware issues. It’s the OG model before the redesign in 2016.

My niece who bought my PS4 cleaned it from the inside. Didn't know the lint and dust made it all the way. I abused the hell out of that console. Last time, when I was playing Horizon ZD, GTA OL, and TLOU Part 2, it sounded like a jet. 

 

Sony did a really good job with the PS4. I have a friend who used to own two PS3s, Slim and superslim. Slim model YLODed, and his superslim's hdd also got corrupted. He didn't even bother trying to fix their HDDs for less than 10 dollars.

I blew the dust off mine today and I am installing random games. Battlefield Hardline, Warzone, UFC, RIDE, GTA3, The Warriors. Borderlands... I think I might 'dissect' mine actually, it's been getting quite loud of late as I haven't cleaned it for a few centuries. 

 

Touch wood I haven't had any issues since my first PS2 model which died as did my PS1 but the PS3, 4 and 5 are all 1st gen models and still working well bar cleaning the 4 for dust that I mentioned above.

 

Going to be a bit 'topical' here but as I've been doing updates on all of them I think the interface I like the most out all of the generations is the PS4, not quite sure but the menu system and organisation feels very simple and straightforward compared to the others for finding stuff quickly

I might like the PS5 more than the PS4's interface if I get my hands on one. But for me, the PS4's interface is a huuuge jump from the PS3's XMB.

 

The Ps3's is more streamlined, but it's too much of a hassle to use compared to the PS4's. I remember posting on this topic making fun of the "non-gaming" accessibilities of the PS4 such as video capture, rest mode, and the quicker transition from game to XMB. It's a feature I didn't know I needed until I went back to my PS3.

 

I might sell my PS3 superslim. I've been itching to post it online, if not for my memories with GTA 4. :((((((((((
Last time I finished GTA 4 was on my sh*tty PC way back 2012 I think. Here's hoping I finish GTA 4 before my PS3 gets sold. I only play that game for GTA 4 and RDR. Got that PS3 Bundled with GTA 5, but I sold GTA 5 when I got the PS4 GTA5 bundle.

 

As for RDR, I platinumed part 1, and I'm not itching to get all the trophies.

 

@_iPhaze I used to play Warzone for days on end when MW2019 was still the spotlight. I'm not a huge fan of its BR due to SBMM. Although I've had a couple handful of wins in Plunder. I really miss that game, tbh, but I can't see myself coming back to it due to the game's awful connectivity (200ms PING, FFS in my country). Kinda envious that my friends who play Valorant and CS:GO has ping not exceeding the teens. I also play Fortnite with my nephews and nieces every now and then. Planning to get back when I get a PS5.

I completely understand. If you do return you are more than welcome to add me. I play many other games and most BR games I can't get into. They don't excite me, never really have. I mean, this isn't bad, and I love(d) Apex Legends. On Warzone I am having the most fun playing CLASH - Everything else is, I don't know. I just don't care honestly.

I haven't heard about that "Clash" thing. I might get back into Warzone through Vanguard, but I'm looking for work ATM and I don't see myself grinding stuff out in the coming months.

BRs are overrated, tbh. It's cool, but most BRs are too fast-paced to really feel the tension in my case. I might add you on Social Club later on.

Clash is a Team Deathwatch on a large scale, random spots of a Warzone map. It's interesting.

Ground Wars would have been better if they gave us a larger map to play on, that's not designed for BR.
